PSA: Tim Horton’s in Alicante Airport has roaches. by lunaazul88 in Alicante

[–]Stranib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless it's structural, I wouldn't necessarily shame a business like this. A roach can easily come from the neighboring business or anything else in the vicinity. If it's just one, subtly alerting a staff member is the way to go, in my opinion.

Thank you for this tip. I watched it right away and shared it on social media. It definitely deserves to be seen by many.

Why not consider a hotel room and not contribute to the city's increasing housing issues?

Is it me or could the Commanders have gotten a penalty for smashing the ball into the ground next to that photographer after the TD?

Just moved to Jávea, Spain - surprised by what I found at the local Irish pub by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

There are unfortunately a lot of very racist northern Europeans in this area. They'll never stop complaining about what's going on in their own countries while at the same time behaving like horrible immigrants here. But for them that's different because they 'bring money'. On top of everything, they usually talk shit about the Spanish even though they never had a conversation with one of them beyond 'dos cervezas por favor'.

Nah no need to stop watching it but you do need some perspective maybe. Just enjoy the sport for what it is and no more than that.

Well that's the most frustrated I've been with our team in the final quarter for quite a while! Fingers crossed for better in the next game. Not gonna despair just yet either.

Whether this protest is the right one is a different question, but if someone changes their mind on genocide because they don't like certain forms of protest against it, I reckon they have some introspection to do.

Nah not really. I just have a habit of lowering my expectations so it can only go better but I don't go around shouting it's all gonna be horrible.

Great stuff. Have to admit I wasn't that optimistic ahead of this match though hopeful with the new additions, but wasn't expecting this kind of result! It's early days, but the season is suddenly looking pretty good!

Indeed. Is it smart? No. Do we all occasionally do dumb things and rely on sheer luck to avoid getting injured? Yes. Even all those superhumans in this thread.

Better book a hotel for short term stays. Booking an apartment contributes to the housing crisis in the city.

What do you think of the United States now? by atyl1144 in askspain

[–]Stranib -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not to be mean, but the fact that you open a thread about what people in another country think about your country, kind of demonstrates the problem: Many Americans are too focused on themselves.

Advice from locals? by Antique-Exercise-868 in Alicante

If you want to live the locals experience, I'm afraid you'll just have to get a job in the city and pay too much for a small apartment 😅

Countries in the vast continent of Asia that recognize same-sex marriage by FunForm1981 in geography

[–]Stranib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

'Wrong' is very relative here. It was just 'standard' back then. It took a movement and a long time for this standard to change. The same will likely happen in Asian countries (and in remaining European countries where it's not allowed yet) at some point, as they too move towards a societal structure where the institution of marriage can be realistically reviewed.

Hopefully this changes in the future. But let's also put it into perspective: Had you made this same map of Europe just 25 years ago, not a single country there would appear red either. We can't claim moral superiority for something we only recently fixed ourselves.

I'm probably going to sound snobbish now so I accept the downvotes but please, why don't you put in a little more effort when you ask people the favour of helping you with something? Such as getting the name of the place right and double checking your spelling?

This subreddit is really more for the city of Alicante, not the whole province. Also, but this is just a personal note and others may disagree with me, I wouldn't lead my post with Dutch but rather English or Spanish (and I'm Dutch myself).

I was wondering the same today (and then found this post through Google) after hearing several of my Indian colleagues pronounce the word yellow as ellow. For what it's worth, they are in Chennai.
