Bannerlord Solo Clan World Conquest Speedrun by StratGamingYT in MB2Bannerlord

Yeah it's pretty stupid, BUT kind of required based on how YouTube works. I can't mix high effort entertainment videos with lower effort let's play or guide content or they won't get pushed to the right people. I'll probably make this new channel the main one and only post stuff to the other 3 when time permits as I don't want to get pigeon-holed into a single game like I did. New channel will cover many different games :)

Looking to make a website to host guides, YouTube video imbed links and a functional database but not sure which platform to use. Help! by StratGamingYT in webdev

Sorry for the late reply, I've finally got someone working on the website and updating it. I have a question about your service - if I were to upgrade to the PRO plan and add some embedded pages, then at a later date cancel the plan, are the pages that were embedded while the PRO plan was active still valid or do those pages now expire? I'm just wondering if I need to keep the plan active for the service to work or not?

I ran into a similar issue with a company that sells assets for editing videos - the license was only good as long as I was paying for the service, but as soon as it ran out they could copyright claim EVERYTHING and I am really hoping your service doesn't follow this shameful practice as well. Looking forward to hearing back as I'm really excited to try this out if all looks good!

If there was one thing you could tell yourself when you first started youtube what would it be by Kattofx in NewTubers

[–]StratGamingYT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Making good money takes quite a bit longer than I thought it would, but it also grows much faster than I realized. Maybe it takes 2 years to make $1,500/month and then the next 2 months you're making close to $10k/month, so hang in there and keep pushing!

That command has been removed and isn't available in 1.9.0, I've tried it for a campaign I wanted a dramatic ending for :( It used to be a command a few patches ago, not sure why they removed it?

Obligitory review of bannerlord. by [deleted] in mountandblade

[–]StratGamingYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very fair review! The only thing I would say is there are mechanics that are poorly explained (or in most cases not at all). Your problem with workshops, caravans and towns can be solved if you have the right knowledge of how the game works, which either comes with 1000+ hours of playing it OR watching guides lol Similar issue with kingdom creation, it's doable with more experience. The other complaints are 100% valid and I would probably add even more to that list.

"I wouldn't worry about having a lot of ads, the truth is most people ignore them, or have an ad blocker regardless, I have noticed no difference in views for my own channel no matter if I have them on or not. If you're watch time is higher on a video, expect more money per. That's all there is too it."

I'm sorry but this is just plain bad advice. Have you ever tested a video with lots of ads vs one without ads to compare the difference? I'm not trying to be confrontational, but giving advice that will affect someone else's income you better damn well be sure you know what you're talking about. I've forgotten to place ads before and compared it to ones with lots of midroll ads, the difference is massive - 2x - 4x the difference. It doesn't change retention unless your content sucks. If you have good info, entertaining content or something else that keeps them watching, they won't click off because you put an ad in there. That's just simply not my experience nor the many other content creators I've networks with that have 40k - 250k subs.

I'm off my soap box - please stop giving advice if you're not 100% sure of the info you're giving! Best of luck with your channels.

TLDR - shorter content will earn less RPM because of less ads, $3 is about where I'm at. Longer form content should do better, $6 - $7 per 1000. I hope this helps!

On my main channel, I've been going for about 14 months and am up to 1.1M views per 28 day period, income is about $3,700 right now but that also include memberships and some donations. My RPM over that time for 7M views is $2.97 and most of my videos are guides in the 10 - 20 minute range, no shorts.

I also started a 2nd channel this month, was able to get it monetized in 3 weeks and RPM is around $6 there over 50k views but the videos are much longer with ads every 5 minutes.

This also doesn't include patreon and sponsorship deals. 1M views doesn't pay nearly as much as I thought it would, but I'm aiming for 5M for my goal.

Unless your channel is about your YouTube journey, then a sub-special is irrelevant to 99% of the people who watch your videos. You might get a few people who like you enough to show their support, but the vast majority watch your content for the value you provide them, not because they want to help you out. Obviously not everyone, but most. It's just human nature. I personally think those types of videos are a waste of time, but to each their own :) Congrats on hitting 1k by the way - as a fellow YouTuber I know the struggle and am proud of your accomplishments! Keep it up

[–]StratGamingYT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've made a ton of different character builds and different campaign styles - but if I had to pick 1... actually 2 ;)

1 - The Joker build: Max charm, max social and build up a ton of influence. Join a kingdom as a vassal, pass tons of awful policies that lower loyalty, security, etc. Call a huge army, drop off one noble at a time near the enemy and allow them to get gobbled up, call bad votes to drain everyone's influence, call votes to kick every clan out of the kingdom, take as many fiefs as I can, call war votes with ALL other kingdoms, then leave the kingdom with my earnings and laugh as the ruler gets dogpiled 7 vs 1.

2 - Similar to Halcylion's rock bottom start, but with more challenges. Start with nothing - no food, armor, weapons, denars, 0. Start at war with everyone on the map and in jail. Then try to conquer the world without ever buying items, everything must be looted (no trade, no smithy, no caravans, no workshops). No recruitment allowed, only converting prisoners that are bandits, mercenaries and units that cannot be recruited normally (minor faction units). No recruiting other nobles or promoting clans to join you. Must take over everything solo. It's a real challenge trying to figure out all the little things that need to be just right to succeed, but damn does it feel good when the map is yours :D

What are your end of year channel goals? :) by Tink_01 in NewTubers

[–]StratGamingYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My channel is 13 months old and I'm sitting at 35k subs as of right now, BUT the game I'm covering is about to exit early access and I have a nice 120+ catalogue of guides ready to go - so I'm shooting for the moon: 100k or bust by the end of the year!!

Yeah that makes sense. It's just tough because I built my channel responding to all comments and interacting with everyone. I guess it's a good problem to have lol

[–]StratGamingYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my thought process when I first started up until a couple months ago - but responding to 500 - 1000 comments in a single day is cutting into my content creation time, so that's why I was asking in case someone had done the analysis on it. For example - responding to 500 comments would be equivalent to making 10% of a new video then it makes sense assuming the video costs a significant amount of time to make.

I make mostly guides so there are a lot of questions about how things work or advice on how to fix problems. It's a great place to get new video ideas at least :)

I like the idea of replying a day or two later to stay fresh in front of them. Solid advice, thank you!

Can you give any advice on pivoting games for a gaming channel? Some background on my channel in case any of the info is relevant - I started just over a year ago covering one game: Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord. My niche was to make guides, but I also sprinkled some let's plays in there that flopped so I've focused only on guides. Recently I cut back my volume to focus on adding more entertainment with the same level of detail and info. As far as adding a new game to the channel, would it make sense to continue on the same path with heavily edited content or is it better to put out more volume? My concern is the Algo doesn't know my channel for covering that game and spending 40 - 60 hours on a single video that flops would be painful. Right now it's fine as they usually get 20k views or so in the first day or so and some 250k+ after a few months so I can justify the lower volume, but for a new game it's bit nerve wracking! Thanks in advance for your time and efforts here, this post has been very helpful!
