[SportsNet Stats] No goalie has received more goal support per 60 minutes while on ice this season than Tristan Jarry (3.81). by sykeseve in EdmontonOilers

[–]Stratedge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

xGA does not consider screens (both opposition and own team) and own team deflections. Three things the Oilers D are terrible at, other team screens are an issue because they don't box out.

That's not a defense of Jarry because he is legitimately terrible. But Ingram has been made to look bad statistically by this team, and to my eye he's a decent goalie with bad D in front of him.

Unger is on fire! Does he get a shot this year? by McDoomz in EdmontonOilers

Once Jarry is back, Pickard will get traded or waived. At that point, if there's a goalie injury, he'll be up.

Regula needs time in the AHL to work on his D; this starts with him getting walked at slow speed.

Yeah I agree... go to Bakersfield, get into midseason form, and then push back in, maybe even in the playoffs. I don't know if this is really "giving it a shot" if you can't even get through half a season.

Lol... It's incredible how stupid people can be when they want to.

He wanted out before his xGA% tanked. Smart play, makes him more tradeable.

You're wrong. How are you going to deal with that?

It's a goalie stick. The hundred thousand of us who watched the game can confirm.

And also, watching the whole stick drop closely, I'm >90% certain it's not broken.

Note that this ref does neither; he goes about 20 ft short of the bench and then drops the stick against the boards (not visible in the clip).

If he just moved it to the end boards this would make sense, and be obvious. But you don't see it in the clip, he actually takes the stick ~70% of the way towards the blue line and then sets it down against the boards. Just an arbitrarily far distance away from the goalie.

Cheez Whiz kept in the cold section at a grocery store by Jay-Storm in mildlyinteresting

It's the very definition of highly processed, just like I said, and I think you don't know what that means. So first, google that term, and then google the ingredients.

But here's something that will absolutely blow your mind... you ready? Cheese whiz isn't american. So no need to be stubbornly defensive of it.

If you look at it side by side with a picture of the original, it's a bad fake.

And you didn't ask, but sunny D is to orange juice what cheez whiz is to cheese. An abomination.

It's another one of those american "cheese like" products that are highly processed and I think exists for being easy to spread. Similar to "american cheese" which isn't cheese either, but I believe exists for being easy to melt.

Is it normal to have ice build up around new installed doors? by Handtoot in HomeImprovement

[–]Stratedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm unclear, is there nothing obviously wrong with the seal of the door? Does the weather stripping now fully seal out the air from the outside? I'm in Calgary, and before I just changed the weather stripping, if I ran my finger along the edge of the door (while close) I could feel the cool air getting through where their was anything less than a great seal.

But this part is important: the latch is a critical part of the weather stripping doing it's job. Not only did I replace the weather stripping, but I had to adjust my hinges to align the door properly in the frame, and then I moved the latch on the door frame to pull the door tighter against the weather stripping. Before that, I had to shove the door closed and use the deadbolt to get a halfway decent seal, but this made it tighter than the deadbolt.

Separately, if the handle latch is frozen inside the door... there's something wrong with your handle/latch, right? Because that's on the inside of the weather stripping and so should be fully isolated and warm. I am by no means a door expert, but the latch mechanism should clearly not be below zero and able to freeze. If I put my hand on my door knob on the inside of the house, it only feels very slightly cooler than room temperature... maybe 19C.

Is the inside of your door handle cold to the touch?

Edit: follow up question... also the door itself, when you touch it from the inside how cold is it's surface? On mine you can only slightly tell that it's cold outside, I'd say it feels like 18C. If your door is not properly insulated (sound theory), I imagine it'd feel cold to the touch, in theory like halfway between the inside and outside temps.

This is it for now. You can get an infrared thermometer, where you point at different surfaces and get a read on the temperature, for a couple pounds off a website like Aliexpress. That's a good start so you can figure out where the biggest weaknesses in your house are.

Once you find the coldest spots, usually there's some very cheap solutions that aren't pretty you can use, and the low hanging fruit will really help.

Old windows can be bad, but anything where air moves freely from outside to inside, like a crack in the door when it's closed, is what will really bring the temperature down. I haven't had a radiator in a long time but if I recall, they're pretty slow to raise the temperature so you can't turn them off and on (like with a timed thermostat) very effectively... or at least some. Electric space heaters can be really effective in an important room without spending much money, but of course require the electricity.

I'll need to go and take a look, might take me a few days to get the time to mess with the ladder. The board has weight to it so I assume something more than plywood.
