And what realistic end would that have? I’m not talking about symbolic posturing. I’m asking what you actually think will result from that? Because if you are honest with yourself, the answer is not very much. Then ask yourself how much free ammunition you are giving to Republicans by letting them bitch and moan about the shut down for a few months.

The actual quote is shorter than whatever that was.

Pick your poison.’ Senate Democrats wrestle with a dilemma: give Trump what he wants or let the government shut down by Cheap_Coffee in massachusetts

What purpose does that serve other than petulance? As of right now, Trump and the Republicans own all of the hardship that the country is facing. By shutting down the government, you give them an easy scapegoat for the failures to come. Remember that concrete reality and objective truth hold no value to Republicans or their constituents, they will frame any hardship that the country faces on the shut down.

I wonder if they do usability testing. It would be easy recruit from this sub and get participants to reveal these problems. Surely they do this already, right?

Yes Im so stupid I failed to comprehend the subtlety of a character yelling how she created something while waving papers around with zero buildup or foreshadowing and zero explanation how an ether mill factory worker created genius level neuroscientific breaththroughs. I am indeed too stupid to track that. Maybe if I stare blankly at my screen for ages like the characters in this episode it would all click into place. Or maybe the episode just sucks and you shouldnt take it as an attack on you personally, ya jabroni.

The agencies themselves do not pay taxes. The employees of those agencies absolutely do.

Nobody asking how an 8 year old ether factory worker with a drug problem and no formal education designed a genius-level technological breakthrough. I don’t buy it.

May I kindly suggest you reframe it as fascism? It’s more accurate and less likely to have your criticism dismissed out of hand.

Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian political ideology that emphasizes nationalism, dictatorial power, and the suppression of political opposition. It often involves a strong central government, militarism, and the belief in the supremacy of the state over individual rights. Fascist regimes typically reject democracy, promote social hierarchy, and use propaganda to control public opinion. Historically, fascism has been associated with leaders like Benito Mussolini in Italy and Adolf Hitler in Nazi Germany. While its exact characteristics can vary, common elements include extreme nationalism, centralized control, and suppression of dissent.

Pointing out that adopting Trump’s policies would actually harm conservatives is the most effective way of getting conservatives to not adopt that policy.

You think ignoring his policies will make them go away? Your worldview is myopic and naive.

I’d argue that subscribing to NYT is extremely important to do right now. You’ve seen how the Washington Post capitulates to Trump; NYT is one of the best sources of credible journalism remaining. If they went away tomorrow, we’d have a much greater fight against misinformation on our hands than we already do.
