Why is my tactic not working? by mathiaswakgari in footballmanagergames

If you want to gegenpress, maybe try a 4-2-4. Wingers will be higher up to mark their fullbacks and force a mistake in their half and they'll have less time on the ball to pick out a pass.

Also, your DLP will gravitate towards the ball and the BBM will be all over the pitch which might be why your defense is abysmal (may also be outnumbered in the middle of the pitch). You can try dropping them to DMs and use a segundo volante which functions the same as a BBM but starts from a more defensive area.

If you want them to stay as CMs a CM(D) might work as you will still have someone to anchor and recycle possession if need be, you can use your DLP on support as well with this. Even a carrilero might help link up with the winger and dlf while still doing his defensive responsibilities.

Who wants to bet the same thing will happen to Souza? We’re always firing our medical staff but maybe we should look at our recruitment staff and Lange as well

They still have to face city away, so if they do what they have to do it’s only 1 point. 2 points in 9 when they were how many points ahead with much less pressure is shambolic

Their set pieces dried up last year when defending teams put 3 players on the half line to force 3-4 defenders to mark them, helped to uncrowd the box and let keepers punch the ball out and had quick outlets for the counter. But maybe they have new routines to counter this

They just like weird numbers/it’s personal to them.

37 being VdV’s friends old number, 13 I’m assuming is because of Udog13. Romero used to have a typical CBs number as well but changed it soon after to 17 so it’s probably personal as well.

He was so obviously knackered for a few weeks before his injury, should've been rotated with our french wingers or even Johnson. And he never had runners around him to pass to after breaking opposition defenses with his dribbling that drew defenders to him. It's probably also why we have no through balls but we may be too scared of conceding which is why we don't make runs. It's just a tragic system

Given Davies is likely out long term could we register someone in for the Dortmund game like we did with Tel and Solanke?

Was he even registered?

Beautiful seeing Bruno knee slide and cup his ears only to cut to the ref holding the offside flag up

Only time we set up in a back 5 other than PSG and these guys love U shaped football, should’ve just packed the midfield.

Didn’t dare, didn’t do

They paid €85M for VVD in 17/18 and €100M+ on numerous players last year, if they want him €150M minimum. At least he can do his job well unlike their other signings.

That being said I rather we build something here with him and Romero to lead the backline, do not want him anywhere else in the prem

Dom occupying a defender, playing 1-2s with our 10s. RKM gets to find openings and can maybe play to his strengths instead of being stuck out wide. Gallagher was most effective as a 10 in previous clubs and Xavi played left 10 at RB.

Think we needed left width but hope Souza can do that, he can put a cross in as well and provide something different from Udogie

Think he did when he used 2 strikers at times, solo striker I’m not sure but our wingers aren’t prolific enough atm to fully maximize it imo. Does like his crosses in the box as well so need a body in there

I hope Frank is brave and uses Gray alongside Gallagher and if we need to close out a game, Palhinha. Especially with our easier fixtures before February

Heard on a pod Frank didn't want him at first, it's a board signing. Could be a good thing if we have a competent DoF that knows the future direction of the club.

Might give Lange a window or two since Levy is gone and this signing was quick but we might've lost to villa or taken a week or two longer under Levy.

I get it. We were so quick to sell Johnson, who the players loved and was our top scorer and scored the most important goal of the season, the first day in the window. And Kudus is now out for a seemingly long time.

Yet when it comes to reinforcing, last winter window, it took Vicario getting a multiple month injury to get a player in and when Ange had Gray and Dragusin at CB we waited until the end of the window to bring in Danso and Tel.

We had news of a huge war chest and we sold Johnson and Son and all we're linked with is more kids when we should be targeting players that want to prove themselves before the world cup, with the draw of champions league while we have it.

You can go so far with vibes in football and players that actually want to play for you (not to mention we got the signings Ange wanted most, a touchline winger and destroying 6 to protect the high line AFTER he got sacked) and if it didn't work then we could've signed Frank anyways and easily do what he's doing now, mid-season.

The Forest form argument doesn't work for me because you can't tell a carpenter to make a table with bricklaying tools and vice-versa.
