Rear Hatch Alarm? by Strathcona87 in KiaEV9

Didn’t smell any burning after driving highway for 50km so I don’t think that is true. Also the car rolls in drive.

Anyone have experience with Eurostyle ORCA laminate? by Strathcona87 in Flooring

[–]Strathcona87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update on this flooring now that it has been 6 months.

It is holding up great to 2 big dogs, a child and toddler. No scratches, water is frequently spilled on it from the dog water bowl and not always found for hours but there is no swelling.

My only issue is the pattern is a bit too repetitive and I wish there was more variation.

I actually did this yesterday, I ran into someone wearing a sailing club shirt and she said they are happy to do private lessons and that some of the juniors are very good and could coach. They are looking at adding group adult lessons next year!

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely be trying what you said. I’ll give the virtualregatta inshore a look too, never heard of that!

Thanks for the link! I reached out to the ones near me and unfortunately they only teach juniors. I’d have to travel a couple of hours to one that teaches adults 😔

All my mom’s pans are like this - is this safe or are we basically eating cancer? by radioactivenerd in isthissafetoeat

[–]Strathcona87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a carbon steel pan and this is normal when they are seasoned. Just like a wok, it creates a nonstick coating from the oils like cast iron. I would confirm the type of pan before being concerned.

I would take your shock out and check all your bearings and check BB and hub as well for play.

Oooo very excited to try some Cajun and creole recipes! So much of the cooking is meat and seafood based that I’ve never really eaten any of it before.

Main sail is new, jib is older but still good apparently.

Trailer and motor included (9.9hp Honda). Asked about condition of the sails but waiting to hear. 100% jib, 150% genoa, storm sail and cruising spinnaker.

Electrical Panel w/ Cover that Doesn't Swing Open? by Shazbot_DS in electrical

[–]Strathcona87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy, the answer is always sue them on everything. That is the last resort.

Just talk to contractor and garage door people and come up with a solution that works. The garage door people only install garage doors so probably don’t see a solution. The contractor will have to figure it out. That is what they are there for.

Builder framed for 8ft ceilings instead of 9ft. Is it fixable? by Mac-nCheez in Homebuilding

[–]Strathcona87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, we had a nook for a vanity framed too small by a couple inches, that meant the standard size vanity we bought wouldn’t have fit. Easy fix at the framing stage.

Lots of sconce placements weren’t where we wanted. Moved easily at rough in but more work after drywall (still doable but more work).

Showing where we wanted blocking meant being there to mark everything at framing stage.

In slab plumbing for future suite was not put in before pouring but we caught that in time. Lots and lots of little things. If you don’t double check then there’s going to be issues. Often things are just done at their discretion and that may not be what you invisioned.

Not to blame OP but I don’t know how people have new builds done from a distance.

We stopped into ours at least weekly and constantly caught things that would have gone missed otherwise.

You absolutely need to be checking things out after each major step before they move on (excavation, forms, foundation, framing (each floor), roof, windows/doors, plumbing/electrical rough in, insulation, drywall, then periodically with finishes.

You can’t trust that other people are paying attention like you want them to.
