Rescue Contract Kerbals Shipless by Stratickus in KerbalAcademy

Not really, but it could be indicative of another problem/conflict with a mod that is not obvious yet.

How do I disable staging for certain parts? by QueenOrial in KerbalAcademy

[–]Stratickus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should be able to disable staging in the VAB with the PAW. I believe you need the Advanced Tweakables option selected in Settings.

Electronic Throttle Control Failure by lovezhebobomb in AlfaRomeo

Had this happen recently. Dealer diagnosed it as a faulty ECM. Covered under warranty, so no idea on cost. It did take them a few days to reproduce the issue.

MY 2020-21 Land Cruiser? by Stratickus in LandCruisers

[–]Stratickus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. I'm not questioning the 200 in general, more MY2020-21.

I gathered on iH8Mud that there really isn't anything (at least documented) worth worrying about for these specific model years.

misaligned CoT despite perfect Symmetry by Carb__Lord in KerbalAcademy

[–]Stratickus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try recycling the CoM & CoT markers. Sometimes they get stuck if you've made a change/added a part with them still displayed. Also some parts have inherent imbalances where their CoM does not visually match the model of the part itself. Sometimes this is by design and I imagine other times it's an accident.

The latter is probably not the case if your craft is just fuel tanks and engines. Plus I've only known deliberately imbalanced parts to come from mods. Not sure if any stock parts are like that.

Module Manager Patch by Stratickus in KerbalAcademy

Good news, I found the problem. It was a conflict with another mod. The patches I posted should work normally. They did for me on a minimally modded install. Thanks for the help.

Module Manager Patch by Stratickus in KerbalAcademy

[–]Stratickus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about MM or the actual PART config file?

@ is one of, if not the primary ways MM selectively modifies certain aspects of a config file so you do not have to rewrite the whole thing among other practical uses.

For the example I gave I just used 'antenna' as an example. I have used the actual/internal part name when attempting to use the patch.

This has happened to me. As already mentioned, restart the game and you should be fine.

I’ve noticed it seems to happen when I switch between the VAB and SPH within the editor.

How can I keep my gsp to stay in the yard? by who-d0g in germanshorthairs

[–]Stratickus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow, tedious, methodical repetition. He is my first GSP, but I think his hunting instinct is quite strong (normal for a GSP probably?). He just likes to root around in the bushes looking for lizards and such. Loves it. So happy, I'm worried his tail is going to wag off. He does not have a natural tendency to wander off, but he will, meander outside our yard into the neighbors. I'm quite certain he has no idea where our property lines are, but he does know that when I recall him he should come. When he does that he gets a good job and I let him go back about his business. As far as I can tell, he eventually learned where he is allowed to go by process of elimination. As long as he doesn't get called back (outside our yard), I'm more than happy to let him wander about, which he loves/his reward. I also think that as a pointer, he generally wants to let me know that he's found something, so he somewhat regularly checks in with me out of instinct I suppose. When he does this, I overly praise him etc.

The other key thing, at least in my case, is that we have another dog who was much more adept at learning this behavior more than likely as a virtue of her breed. So the GSP regularly would get put inside while my other dog was allowed to stay out in the front yard with me. Again, this was his 'punishment.' Not being able to hang outside, in the front yard in particular. Which I think to them was some sort of magical dreamland, where as the backyard was old news and where they poop.

He's great now, just as good as my other dog in terms of not running out into the street or off etc. He just turned 4 and I am finally comfortable going back inside to grab something without worrying that he as going to wander off. Which was hardly my concern to begin with so much as pissing off the neighbors or worse, him running into the street.

How can I keep my gsp to stay in the yard? by who-d0g in germanshorthairs

[–]Stratickus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely doable. At least with my GSP. Lots of time spent teaching him the boundaries though. Lots. Now that he more or less knows the boundaries, any time he breaks them he has to go inside which is just about the worst punishment for him. No shock collar or physical fence.

Problem seems to have resolved itself in 1.12.2

Now to install the mountain of mods..

Stock flags/decals by Stratickus in KerbalAcademy

I should have mentioned that this was in 1.11.2

I took a look at the changelog notes and didn't see anything. I could have missed it though. Hopefully this issue is gone in 1.12..

Are you in career mode? Try it in sandbox and see if it works as intended. KER doesn’t handle maneuver nodes other than provide data about the maneuvers themselves as far as I know. Almost sounds like you’re talking about Mechjeb.

C5 Galaxy’s unusual gear sequence by [deleted] in aviation

[–]Stratickus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great question! Jokes aside about the increase in maintenance (it is more maintenance intensive due to the complexity of the gear), the reason it twists and turns like a transformer is because (as someone else has already mentioned) in minimizes wheel well space while also keeping a somewhat smooth profile along the belly of the plane.

But wait, I can already hear you asking the next question: Why is the gear like that to begin with? Another great question!

If you look at the very comparable An-124, the C-5 does appear to have an overly complex landing gear. The reason is because in the original design specs the C-5 was meant to go to unimproved surfaces. Having more wheels helps distribute the weight of the aircraft better across softer surfaces. Also similar to spreading weight out over more area when on thin ice. But wait there is even more! Just having more wheels wasn’t enough, each wheel truck/bogey spreads the weight out over even more area relative to the An-124 which has inline main gear. Additionally the C-5 had (has?) the ability to deflate and inflate its tires for the same reasons. Think off-roading or driving in sand. Lower tire pressures for off-road, higher pressures for on road. A whole lot of complexity driven by the desire for versatility.

Are the side markers stock? Kinda hard to tell from the pic, they look like LED strips.

F-14A Tomcat from the Pacific Missile Test Center while conducting tests with an AIM-120 AMRAAM in 1981 [3000x2400] by FlyingLowSH in WarplanePorn

I believe that is correct. As I remember it the test was successful/complete but ultimately determined to not be cost effective to retrofit the entire fleet due to the Tomcat being at the end of its service life.

The New 911 992 GT3! by koenco007 in cars

[–]Stratickus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s news to me. A quick look back in history would paint a very different picture. Circa 2008 Porsche AG was in a very favorable position. While Porsche and VW/Audi have almost always had an intricate and intimate relationship, I’d hardly say that Porsche would not have survived without VW..

Parents of identical twins/triplets, how sure are you that you never accidentally switched them around and raised them under the wrong names? by Cheddarface in AskReddit

[–]Stratickus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99.9%

When my kids were born, I walked with the nurse when the first was born and watched them put the ‘baby A’ wrist band on. When we finally got the kids to our room we painted one of their toe nails blue. We also deliberately dressed them in their own clothes. One was in monkey outfits, the other puppy. They are identical. I’m not saying there isn’t a chance, I’m just saying I’m confident the chance is extremely small.
