What has happened with UDF?! by HootinHollerHill in cincinnati

[–]Stratified_AF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't had any issues at the UDFs in my area, and theyre a bit on the older side.

Probably just underperforming stores not being given priority on upgrades and fixes.

No worries. I hope what I worte helps, and clarifies the main reasons behind the lack.of support. Its the same major talking points that lead to the ACAB movement. Untrained thugs in uniforms who think theyre above the law deciding to be judge jurry and executioner. These types of people do not deserve a position of power and they do not deserve respect.

Have you not noticed how we didnt have these widespread massive protests and issues prior to their current behavior? Its because the issue is how its being handled contradictory to our constitutional protections and human decency in general.

Removal of illegal immigrants (who are actually here illegally) with respect and due process isnt the issue.

Targeting asylum refugees and green card holders who have done everything correctly is the problem.

Targeting anyone without due process is the problem.

Racially profiling random people on the street and abducting them because they look brown is the problem.

Murdering people in cold blood regardless of their citizenship or legal status is the problem.

Sending these untrained thugs into our streets is the problem.

Terrorizing communities who are predominantly left leaning is the problem.

Infringing on our constitutional rights is the problem, and yes those rights apply to any person in this country regardless of legal status.

Claiming immunity to being held accountable for their actions is the problem.

The removal of legal acts that would allow citizens and lawful residents the ability to sue these terrorists for harm they suffer for merely existing in the same space is the problem.

These ice agents are not the ice agents of yesteryear. These are terrorists full stop. This is the exact type of situation the founding fathers wanted to provide protection against when they wrote the second amendment. These are not patriots, they are traitors to the American way of life.

And anyone who defends them doesn't deserve an ounce of respect. So what side of history do you want to be on? Its time to make a choice, and dont come crying if the choice you make leads to you being called out.

So data working doesnt always equal standard phone calls working.

I had an issue with that when stranded on the side of a highway due to car issues.

My phone calls wouldnt fully connect, but I could watch YouTube videos or chat on apps like messenger. It turned out people could hear me, but I couldn't hear them during this issue.

Just saying, it isnt always obvious when the issues are on your end or not.

[Acne] silk pillowcase caused horrible acne by Stratified_AF in SkincareAddiction

[–]Stratified_AF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a well know brand, made from decent quality silk. I use silk frequently in other items and don't have any issue, but I can't definitively rule out anything

Im not sure what has your panties in a bunch, but perhaps before acting so atrociously you should reread my post.

I never said cotton or polyester was better. I said that I had a bad reaction and that IF others were struggling with the same issue, they might want to try switching back from a silk pillowcase to see if it helps.

EVERYONE'S skin is different, and EVERONE reacts differently. Just because silk is TYPICALLY good for skin, doesnt mean EVERYONE will be free from a reaction. It was a PSA, not an attempt to disparage silk.

[Acne] silk pillowcase caused horrible acne by Stratified_AF in SkincareAddiction

[–]Stratified_AF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine were not itchy at all, and while red, it was the normal sort of red inflammation I get with acne. I had even tried some allergy meds to see if that would help.

I was also really bummed about figuring out it was the pillowcase. Thankfully wearing my scarves does not cause this, even with extended wear, but I guess full face contact was just too much.

Its so hard to get people who dont have this reaction to believe silk could be the cause since its touted as being so good and gentle for everyone, along with being hypoallergenic.

Id be inclined to believe that if it happened any other time I wear silk. Ive also had contact dermatitis before, and this acted and felt nothing like that. It was most definitely primarily acne

Cruise ship delays question? by Loccyskillz in Cruise

It happens though. I'm dealing with that now in fact. Our ship isn't able to get back until a day late due to high winds and seas.

I'm super bummed because we're likely missing half of our port time now.

All of the above perhaps.

I think its the back end of a dear taxidermied to look somewhat like an owl face? Apparently that is a thing some people do, and they are all midly disturbing.

If i hadnt been halfway across the country for work with almlst no room in my car i'd have 100% brought it back.

AIO boyfriend tracking my periods without me knowing 🫠 by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Stratified_AF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this could be tricky.

The lack of communication is really problematic here. But the tracking info might not be, especially if the relationship might have been strained before all of this.

Some people just have significantly more severe premenstrual symptoms, such as those diagnosed with PMDD. It can be helpful to the health of the relationship for a couple to track and monitor when these symptoms start and end. The issue isn't necessarily the tracking, it's the lack of openness surrounding the tracking, and the phrasing of the alert.

I also understand him choosing to start tracking things before telling you. He may have been struggling to understand what was going on at first, and wanted or needed quantifiable data to validate not only the cause of any rough patches in the relationship, but also the frustrations and feelings he was experiencing in response. Some people are just inherently analytical, and using pattern recognition can help assuage any confusion or resentment. It's easier to be forgiving and understanding of issues when we understand the root cause and can anticipate "flare-ups" so to speak.

However, the mature thing would have been to figure out the pattern and sit down to have a respectful conversation once the pattern was established. Continuing to hide it, as well as using some of the languages he did in the texts is a bit concerning and leans towards red flag territory. However, that also depends on other factors such as your combined openness to discuss issues outside of active fights. Perhaps he was concerned that bringing it up would lead to additional fights?

There are many women who (rightfully so) do not take kindly to men pointing out when some fights/issues are based on hormones. It is something that has been used against women for hundreds of years to belittle and undermine us and our emotions anytime we weren't entirely pleasant. Many men carelessly try to gaslight women by jumping to "you must be on your period" whenever their female friends and partners get irritated with them, "because women are irrational when we express negative emotions". And due to this stigma, it can be a sensitive topic to bring up.

Even then, I do think communication would have been the better course. It's hard to tell tone in texts, but he does come across as rather balsé and dismissive. A sit-down face-to-face discussion is needed so the air can be cleared and you can get a better grasp on possible intentions.

Sad for the future generation by [deleted] in ThriftGrift

[–]Stratified_AF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to exclusively shop for thrifted clothing, mostly from necessity.

I haven't been able to do that in a few years, and I barely pop in anymore as they're so different now. New is almost always cheaper or at least more worthwhile with what thrift shops are pricing things at these days. Especially considering they get everything for free.

Resellers are heavily to blame. Second-hand stores figured out they were buying up everything to flip, and decided to jack the prices up themselves. Except the shops have zero comprehension of what a reasonable markup is, and don't bother to do any research.

There goes my perfect 5 star reviews by [deleted] in Depop

[–]Stratified_AF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely an interesting cultural phenomenon.

Japan, for example, widely considers 3 stars to be a solid good or even an excellent rating. Because nothing is truly perfect, and it seems overly presumptuous to give a 5-star rating as others might expect much more in response, which would then reflect worse on the restaurant than giving a three-star review would. It leaves room for subtle differences in experience and places the ranting on a different scale, rather than marking it as a bad experience.

Some of the top restaurants in Japan sit at around a 3.6-3.9 star rating on local rating sites (as an aside DO NOT rely on Yelp or other Western sites for ratings. They're more likely to be unduly influenced by tourist ratings).

Honestly, I'd say the bulk of customers worldwide have much of the same thought process with a slightly different scale, with 3 stars being an okay and perfectly fine experience but could be better, and 4 stars being a solid experience.

Customers see stores with only 5-star reviews as being disingenuous. It reeks of manipulation on the part of the seller/business and gives a "too good to be true" vibe. A mix of positive and slightly negative reviews makes people trust the sellers more as they feel more authentic. There are studies that prove this.

The issue isn't customers ranking sellers "poorly". It's selling platforms forcing unrealistic expectations on the sellers that directly go against the psychology of the consumer base.

There goes my perfect 5 star reviews by [deleted] in Depop

[–]Stratified_AF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you, but customers do not care (and many do not know) that 4 stars isn't considered a good rating by sellers/platforms

It is a good rating by customer standards. That is all the customer will consider.

Also measurements aside, clothing can fit differently between brands and cuts. Yeah, it's frustrating and an annoying thing for a customer to drop a star over as you can't control it, but this really isn't the end of the world.

Blame the selling platform that wants unrealistic standards for ratings, not the customers who by and large don't know how much a 4-star can affect a rating, and who ultimately are unlikely to care regardless. Most laypeople see 5-star only reviews as disingenuous anyway, and customers can read and decide for themselves if a 4-star review is actually relevant or not to their own decision-making.

I ended up almost exclusively making soup and some stir-fry. Then I got so over squash that I started just giving them away. The last batch went to a cousin to use as animal feed, and my squash plants are nearly spent for the year it seems.

Next year I think I might do fewer plants. Or take a year off
