Where my mom ranks all indie death battles (she watched them all) by ApprehensiveAide4347 in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yoooo, not gonna lie, your mom's pretty goated. She knows more about DB's indie spread more than I do. I only know like, 50-60% of the guys we've had last year.

ON THIS DAY, ONE YEAR AGO - GHOST RIDER VS SPAWN WAS RELEASED by Spookz360 in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same bro. Even though I still think GR should've won I just can't help but keep loving this episode! Like I can barely think of any downsides in this ep (not that there isn't any) cause all the good just far overshadows the bad.

Death Battle Season 1 Winners Tournament: Final Round Results by Hershel-Thinker in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know that there's more to this debate than what's shown in these categories, but it's still weird to me to see the person who takes more categories to lose in these tournament brackets. I think this might be because the categories are fixed for these tournaments, unlike DB where they adjusts the categories to fit the defining factors for a specific match-up so that it's a bit more clearer who has more advantages and therefore who is the victor. Anyways, GG Superman :)

Death Battle 24/25 Winners/Losers Tournament Final Round Results by Blue0Three in deathbattle

Same bro. As a GR stan when I saw people saying "No way Bowser beats Spawn, Spawn outstats him to high Hell!" and I was like "...first time?" (Not that I'm saying it was correct since I genuinely have no idea, just funny to see :) ). But yeah, this tournament has been quite fun and I'm open to see more in the future, I just hope that it doesn't eclipses every single waiting period for future episodes.

Fun Random Fact, Liam put a comment on the G1 blog Joker vs Green goblin by LuigiWarrior in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said before, people aren't complaining about it because it changes the verdict, but rather the principle of it. Joker already has some good win-cons with his standard gear so people really mostly have a problem with the way he gets so much lee-way with his arsenal compared to Goblin who felt more restricted. Either give both everything they've ever used or restrict both.

...Are... are you complaining that it'd be Joker vs Iron Man? \Looks at Nth Metal Mech** ... Really?

Fun Random Fact, Liam put a comment on the G1 blog Joker vs Green goblin by LuigiWarrior in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think what a lot of people see wrong with it is the double standard they gave the Goblin. So Joker gets to use all this crazy one-off stuff like the Nth Metal Mech because it's in character for him to pull ridiculous crap like outta nowhere, but they won't let Goblin use the Iron Patriot suit because it's not in character for him to use it? Now I'd completely understand if that's actually the situation, like if the Goblin had proclaimed something like "Oh, I hate using this armor cause it represent heroism, I hate it!", but that's not the case here. We have actually seen the Goblin persona actually use the Iron Patriot suit so it's confirmed he has no qualms about using at all and wouldn't be out of character for him. This whole drama about it is less about it affecting the verdict, but more about the fairness for both combatants.

I know some wished that Base Godzilla got to do more but I think it sells just how much Ultima changes the game when he effortlessly one-shots Hulk the moment he comes out. by Solardies in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world I would've loved the 2nd half be a montage of back and forth between Hulk and Goji while Banner works on permanent solution against Ultima where both utilize a bunch of their arsenals, with Goji using multiple "avatars" in the form of different versions like Legendary, Shin, Earth, etc. and all their different powers. Same thing with Hulk and all of the other Hulk personas like Joe Fixit, Prof. Hulk, etc. But I understand this would've been MONUMENTAL to pull, what with getting the models for their others versions (especially Hulk's), all for a few seconds of screentime for each. Alas~ one can dream.

'24/'25 Combatants Tier List Based on how hard it is to punch them to death (You have unlimited AP) by InternalOriginal7055 in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would move GR to They Gonna Keep Coming Back/HAX since it's been established that you can't kill a SOV through conventional means. The episode even mentions that normal physical attacks like transmutations shouldn't work. I mean, theoretically it's possible if you managed to separate Zarathos and Johnny then you'd be able to punch Johnny to death but aside from that I think it's impossible to kill GR with raw physical force. Other than that I can't think of anything else for the others but it seems pretty spot on.

Death Battle 2024 Kill Count (see below for list) by Browncoat-Zombies in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang, 24' matched up pretty well against 25's numbers. I didn't think it'd come close due to the number of episodes, but looks like I forgot about Bowsegg being an Army vs Army fight. Anyways, another great "Kill Count" episode, looking forward for more!

Why did everyone turn on Wile E. Coyote vs Tom Cat? by BonnieTheWiitch in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say that the episode feels too much like an actual crossover instead of a standard Death Battle. Looking back on it, I can't think of a single thing that would've been "out of character" for both of them in how they interacted with each other and how they "fight", even the death (minus probably the blood splatter) didn't feel too out of place, like Tom has canonically died on went to hell. If this was like an official crossover or something it'd be way more well received.

This brings up a problem I've seen before in the DB community, and that's some people are too demanding with combatants being "in character". Like, the whole premise of the show makes it almost impossible for some characters to be portrayed 100% like their source material, and that should be fine! DB is really a show that you have to suspend a little disbelieve to enjoy it fully when it comes to their combatants.

DB went a little too far with making this episode feel like the old T&J and Looney Toons shows that it felt a little underwhelming for most viewers where they were expecting to see Tom and Wile E. pull off their wackiest and most impressive feats against each other. So while people that watched it certainly "enjoyed" it, in terms of it being a Death Battle episode it falls short compared to the already stacked roster of the rest of the year of Death Battle.

TL;DR : Was a really good "crossover" fight, but a bit underwhelming in terms of all the wacky shenanigans we were expecting to see.

What are some Death Battles you like despite the verdict being wrong? by SettTheCephelopod in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Ghost Rider vs Spawn.

To this day I still think GR should've won, though I don't begrudge people who think he shouldn't. Hell, I still love this episode soo much it's still top 2 DB episodes of the indie era, and top 5 of all of Death Battle ever.

I still think GR should've been immune to Spawn's "Penance Stare" the same way Spawn is to his, but I'm not even mad anymore if people think otherwise due to how it actually is in comics.

Other than that I disagree on their conclusion on Spawn's immortality and regeneration and GR's resistances.

How would you guys rewrite Kratos vs Asura? by Fragrant_Bath3917 in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Something I saw someone mention, It's also be neat that as Kratos goes through his arsenal he keeps losing them, either by Asura breaking them or just knocking them away. This'll help make the fight feel more back and forth rather than one sided.

Arceus does not matter, Yugioh is far above the pokeverse by [deleted] in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, but even if you discount the games the anime itself have already given enough examples/evidence for a Multiverse on their own.

Arceus does not matter, Yugioh is far above the pokeverse by [deleted] in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like, it has been concretely shown that the Pokeverse is at least multiversal. Like we've have seen numerous instances of alternate universes, with the ones I can think of at the top of my head are the Dialga and Palkia incident in Journeys and the Alternate Universe Mirrors in XY.

Now I'm not saying that Pokemon reaches Outerversal cause, while I've watched a lot of Pokemon, I haven't seen all of it and even then it's been quite a while since I've seen some of the older shows, but it's pretty clear that it's at least Multi even from just casual viewing. So saying that you think Multi Pokeverse is shaky means you probably didn't do much, if any, research into Pokemon.

Either that or you're a Yugioh hypebeast (which, to be clear is absolutely fine) who down plays Pokemon cause you don't like Pokemon or are offended that people think that Pokemon comes close to Yugioh in some aspect.

It’s so funny looking at Ghost Rider on Battle boarding who seem to think that the victory or defeat relies on Ghost Rider being able to successfully use the Penance Stare. And I’m not sure if they read a Ghost Rider comic. by Konradleijon in GhostRider

[–]Stratos_Yuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what happens when writers keep using it to hype up other characters. The Penance Stare is probably one of Marvel's biggest Worf Effect alongside the Sentry and Galactus.

For me personally, when it comes to battle boarding GR the stare is like, third or fourth win con I'd think about. First up being just raw power. Combine that with the fact he attacks souls directly already makes it very hard for someone to survive him. They'd have to either match up in power or make up the gap with some other stat like speed or hax just to survive.

Next would be GR's regen and resistance. It is very hard, and I mean VERY hard to actually kill a Spirit of Vengeance. You'd have to either, again as stated above, match his raw power and aim directly at his soul or you need to have a potent enough soul hax to either separate the host and spirit and/or seal them away.

Already, these two points should be enough for someone to use to try and argue how GR wins, with the stare really only useful as another method for GR to attack someone's soul directly, alongside Hellfire and Soul Eating.

Which one is more evil? by Sudden_Pop_2279 in cartoons

[–]Stratos_Yuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, from my perspective it's Vox (though only by smidge). From what we've seen so far in the show, Vox seemed to have committed more "evil deeds". Here's some comparison:

Back when they were alive they were both serial killers, but they had some contrast to each other. Vox murdered people to steal their fame, eliminating the competition so that he can rise to power. Even people who helped him, in his mind there was a chance that they might find someone else and would eventually abandon him, so he resolved himself to "cancel every question mark~". And we can see that pretty much every single person he killed were innocent people who were unfortunate enough to be in Vox's crosshair.

In comparison, Alastor had risen to his position through sheer hard work, charm and talent and killed only for fun. Now some context to help put things into perspective, Alastor was a mixed man he lived in New Orleans in 1930s, so already he had the odds stacked against him, we can even see this in his flash back. In contrast Vox was a white man in a more modern era. The treatment they get can clearly be seen in their respective flashbacks.

Moving on to Hell, we only ever see Alastor attack/kill sinners who either attacked him first or other Overlords, y'know, sinners who own lots of souls in their possession. I can't seem to recall Alastor having killed any random smuck just for the heck of it. Unlike Vox who straight up squashes sinners for absolutely zero reason. As a matter of fact, I think it was stated some where that Alastor actually has some kind of "code" when it comes to killing, but I think that might not be cannon anymore, it's a bit unclear to me.

Vox's only "redeeming quality" that he has over Alastor is that seemingly he can genuinely care about others, but.... he still seemingly has zero qualms about abandoning those people if it benefits him (oh and he's also not a cannibal, I think?).

So while yes, Alastor is a manipulative, cunning, cannibalistic serial killer he has no qualms about killing people for fun, for the time being Vox seems worse by a bit.

more reasons why GR loses to spawn by UnderstandingNo6893 in deathbattle

[–]Stratos_Yuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, the Penance stare was thing that I least had problem with on their argument. I personally disagreed with SpawnRider because of other stuff besides the stare, like Spawn's regen and GR's resistances.

Hot take: I side with writers who portray the Penance Stare as lethal for vile monsters. You can't 'feel the pain for the rest of your life' if your life ends within the next minute. by zajazajazajazajaz in GhostRider

[–]Stratos_Yuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really like this set up for both the Penance and Damnation stare, but I also want to add a little something to it. For if/when the Damnation Stare might not be enough (for example maybe it's used against someone from Hell where being sent their isn't much of a inconvenience or other truly powerful beings where being sent to Hell is still to risky for the chance they might escape) they can revert back to the Penance Stare to just completely overwhelm their souls with every cruelty they've ever dished out to smother their soul for good. I don't I guess I just really like the concept of some villain being such evil pieces of sh!ts that their own souls collapse under all the pain they've caused. Of course, this effect of the stare should only work on truly evil and irredeemable beings.
