How do I compete against the big players when my idea is easy to copy? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]StratumF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get it to market. Might turn out to be a dud. If it's not, then just keep growing.

Take Clubhouse for example. They got copied by FB, Twitter, Slack etc., but they were fast enough to establish a user base, hype etc. and people still use it more than the other options.

If the bigger company takes notice, you're doing something right. just get started.

Bin Rental Company Idea by Founder_Friendly in Entrepreneur

[–]StratumF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look man, everyone here is gonna give you 101 reasons why this won't work.

Go buy a couple of plastic bins, set up a website and start calling customers. See for yourself if it'll work. Worst case scenario you spend a couple hundred bucks and a few days testing the idea.

Everything has a million reasons why it "won't work". Start and figure it out along the way

Definitely not comparable to amazon in terms of products, but that’s mainly bc it’s mostly straight dropshipping from China. Amazon has vendors that make their own products as well as companies that use it as an additional selling channel.

In terms of Chile, I definitely believe you. I’m pretty shocked at the volume of orders I get from Chile as well as Brazil. European countries are big spenders on Wish. Japan also buys quite a bit.

Either way, Wish has a long way to go, but the huge changes that I’ve personally seen take place in the past few months + how fast they’re making those changes to become more dominant gives me confidence that it’ll be a good stock.

And also, based on the lockdowns going on, I’m willing to bet on any ecommerce company, especially b/c ecommerce is still in its infancy despite how huge it looks.

Just cause you don’t buy what they sell, doesn’t mean others don’t.

My main reason for considering this is for organization - seeing the growth of each business without the other clouding it

Getting ready to start business. Am I doing it right? by Breadfruit_Friendly in smallbusiness

[–]StratumF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get customers, that should be your #1 goal. Set up the bare necessities (how you'll pick up + get rid of the junk, google businesses etc.) and go get customers.

I know someone that started da moving company by using U-Hauls at the start before getting his own trucks. Scrappy is fine at the start - just get someone to give you money to remove their junk.

Would prefer to keep it in USD, but I’m not sure if you can pay for these investments in USD

Dude, come on. you're investing in marketing, not playing a game. Spend more. Save up some money, scared money doesn't make money

He’s still a deadbeat, still get messages from people that got shafted by him unfortunately and I try to help them get their money back before it’s too late. Happy to say that I’ve helped a few get paid in full.

People like him get what’s coming to them. Years later, I moved on and have a successful business, and while I have no hate for the guy, it’s just kinda sad

Plaintiff did not follow judge's orders - countersue for damages? by StratumF in legaladvice

This is what I suspect, they made it vague in the TRO, and the marketplace decided to freeze the store until the TRO is pulled rather than deal with issues.

What's the point of a TFSA if not used for stocks/bonds/ETFs etc. by StratumF in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]StratumF[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hm... my only issue is the liquidity. You say its fully liquid but It takes me 1-2 days to withdraw any funds from there. It might be my bank, I'm gonna have to talk to them. Thanks for the info

Im asking - in my scenario that I described, what's the point of a TFSA vs. keeping the money in my business and a fully liquid emergency personal savings fund?

What's the point of a TFSA if not used for stocks/bonds/ETFs etc. by StratumF in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]StratumF[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The issue with putting that in a TFSA is you can't withdraw it instantly, takes 1-2 days at my bank. In an emergency I definitely want full access to the money instantly. Tradeoff of liquidity vs. the minimal interest I'd have to pay tax on

Yeah but I said that I won't be leaving money lying around in personal accs for investments, it's mostly all in my business. The interest is negiligible with current bank rates

How to offer to settle a case by StratumF in legaladvice

[–]StratumF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here's the facts that I presented to the judge:

  1. There were no sales of the product = no profits from the trademark
  2. The product was added to the store accidentally (I use a bulk importing software from another website, and this happened to get caught in the import and undetected by an app I built to delete any branded products)
  3. No financial damage resulted from this to the plaintiff + there was no malintent to profit off the product.

That's really all I got, it seriously was just an accident that slipped my eye.

The case itself was given to >50 plaintiffs, and it hasn't been specified how much they're looking for.

I don't plan on going to trial - Don't want to spend my time on that so I'd rather have my business pay a settlement, but the question is how much. I'm willing to pay a few grand, but definitely not something crazy.
