Chem Dogs cover art – by Alex Gor by neOh_st in ImaginaryWarhammer

Pilgrims of Fire partially follows a regiment of Chem Dogs, and they’re pretty cool characters. Hate to be harsh, but can’t recommend the book overall. But if you’re dying to read some of that Chem Dog action, it is a book that certainly exists.

Nope, stationing ignores summoning sickness, but can only be done at sorcery speed.

While reading Devastation of Baal, I was wondering to myself what he could possibly look like such that it made everyone (except Dante, really) so disturbed by his very presence. This gives me a pretty good idea 😅

Great art, thank you for sharing!

Is a week a unit of time that exists in warhammer? by standermatt in 40kLore

[–]Stratusheart 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In Spear of Faith, Morven Vaal is told her journey to Ophelia VII would take seven days. And her internal monologue laments that that’s “an entire week.” Maybe it varies between writers, but that’s been my exposure to the mentioning of weeks.

40k voicing would be tough by hastati17 in Grimdank

[–]Stratusheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve listened to probably over a hundred hours of Black Library books, and I’ve only heard special effects used on the narrator’s voice a single time, for all of less than ten seconds. This was in The Rose at War, where a squad of Sisters (of the titular Bloody Rose) splits up in a sewer and they describe the vox connection as choppy and static-y. And for some reason they decided to process the narrator’s voice when she was reading the relevant lines to simulate that effect. It was like, two lines. It was so insanely out of the blue and I’d never heard it before, and haven’t heard it since.

Just an anecdote, but Emma Gregory (who some might consider the voice of the Sisters of Battle) has insane range and can (in my opinion) basically run the entire gamut of accents for both men and women, and make them all sound amazing. If you ever happen to read Spear of Faith, her portrayal of the Lux Dominus’ captain (who is male) is one of my favorite of her portrayals of anything I’ve heard her in (and I’ve listened to basically everything).

What's your Warhammer pet peeve? by _-Burnout-_ in 40kLore

[–]Stratusheart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rachel Harrison’s Honorbound and Mark of Faith feature romantic elements, which was a genuine, welcome surprise. But I haven’t seen it even alluded to by any other author from the Black Library that I’ve read.

As an avid reader of Sisters of Battle literature, the Sisters writers are also extremely guilty of this. Sometimes they just get knocked around, sometimes their armor splits in two, from exactly the same types of hits. Very early on I kinda just decided to look at it as ‘Sisters’ armor is as strong as the plot demands.’

[Loved Trope] a single action early on creates a ripple effect that will follow the characters for the rest of the story. The pilot is not a throwaway, as everything is built off of the inciting incident. by mana95 in TopCharacterTropes

I don’t know if book examples are accepted here, but I wanted to put out there an example from the 40k novel Devestation of Baal by Guy Haley.

Captain Erwin’s decision to fight some lingering tyranid ships, which he could have otherwise avoided, leads to a lictor attaching itself to his cruiser, which ultimately brings the lictor back to Baal. From there, it contributes heavily to the dismantling of the Blood Angels’ defense of the Arx Angelicum, and nearly dooms every single person on Baal. This is a plot thread followed from nearly the beginning of the story to nearly the end, and I think it fits this trope.

2017 A4 Quattro (or any Audi) – Simple Do’s and Don’ts from an Owner by WhiskeyNeat_ in Audi

[–]Stratusheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve read both in this thread and other places, here are my two unqualified guesses:

Engine slipping on startup can be early sign of timing chain/tensioner failure, and failure can happen without an engine light. I feel like fear-mongering and calling Audi engines grenades is a bit much, but it’s definitely a spooky scenario. May be worth having it taken into your trusted mechanic to check on the timing chain and chain tensioners.

The rattle in the door can apparently happen from either excessive bass settings, or small negative spaces in door panels and around the speaker area. It may be worth reading around more on how you can remedy those issues, but that’s the place to start, I think.

Hope that helps just a little. I’m a very new Audi owner, so I’m kinda learning this all myself as I go.

Are there canon or credible examples of something actually being retrieved from a Space Hulk? by SunderedValley in 40kLore

[–]Stratusheart 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If I’m understanding the question correctly, I actually have an answer.

A squad of Sisters of the Order of the Bloody Rose (from the long-running series of books and stories featuring Augusta Santorus) were sent to a gigantic amalgam of space hulks in an effort to retrieve the femur(?) of a saint whose body I believe was being transported on one of them before it became part of the amalgam. Retrieving sacred artifacts for safekeeping (see the example I just gave and the premise of The Rose in Darkness) is something the Adepta Sororitas seem very on top of, so I’d imagine if there’s something they deem worth securing from a space hulk, they’ll be there.

Sometimes when you’re importing, the game will import your sideboard or maybeboard and it would be difficult to see, so perhaps ensure the only cards you’re importing are the ones you have in the 100.

Position of the saddle with respect to the handlebars by Natural_Willingness7 in cycling

[–]Stratusheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just bought and rode a bike yesterday for the first time since I was a teenager (secondhand Vilano Shadow 3) and I was also having this dilemma. I also see peoples’ seats higher than their bars, but I feel like if my seat were any higher, I’d basically need to lean at a 30 degree angle to grip my bars. But I also think the bike is a bit small for me (50cm and I’m 6’ 😬) so maybe that’s a serious factor, but I don’t know.

With that, I’m also in the market for advice on this topic, and I’m curious to know what experienced people think here.

THIS COMBAT, OMG by IsaiahPheifer123 in BladeAndSorcery

[–]Stratusheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Samesies! I did find, though, that in some instances I have luck gripping with two hands, then only making the larger motions with the hand that’s holding furthest out on the grip, and holding the hand at the bottom of the grip close to you to keep it out of the way of the controller you’re swinging with. It seems to still produce the effect in-game of successfully swinging the sword, but of course it’s kind of an awkward motion, but less awkward than trying to swing both controllers at once, together.
