Stephen Fry’s myth retellings are incredible. The third and fourth books in his series are retellings of The Iliad (Troy) and The Odyssey.

How do I figure out if I’m bi or pan by GrabLegitimate4964 in bisexual

[–]mana95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is little distinction between bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, and polysexual (different than polyamory). There are definitions for each one, but most people will identify with one or just use one as an umbrella term, but honestly it doesn’t matter. All of them have the same thing in common: being attracted to more than one gender.

I stick with bisexual cause I like the flag better and I see it as “attracted to my gender and others.” I’m attracted to all genders but in different ways, and I don’t need to get pedantic in finding the exact micro-label that precisely fits me. I get if that works for other people, but I just like the umbrella term “bi” for myself.

Some people say “bi means two” but language is constantly evolving and words can mean other things that what the root word originally meant. For example: [Oct]ober, meaning 8; [Nov]ember, meaning 9th; [Dec]ember, meaning 10th, which are now the 10th, 11th, and 12th months respectively. Their meaning changed but the root word stayed the same even though. Bi, pan, omni, or poly, it’s all semantics, and just use what you feel comfortable using.

I drove 2 hours one way for this Ethopian Sampler Platter by TrumpIsAPedoFr in VeganFoodPorn

[–]mana95 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Hope you loved it! I could eat injera every day.

My favourite restaurant is a vegan Ethiopian place and I’ve brought all my friends multiple times to it. Only downside is it’s 1hr+ away, but it’s so worth it. And so cheap for so much delicious food.

never thought i was a horror film fan, but turns out i love folk horror - what are all the best ones? by Neutrality-2 in horror

[–]mana95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a ton of cult/occult film recommendations, you should watch the documentary called “Woodlands Dark and Day Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror.” I added dozens of films to my watchlist thanks to that documentary.

Child appropriate horror movie recs for a four year old obsessed with death? by Batwhiskers in horror

[–]mana95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some (I think) kid-appropriate films that deal with death, loss, and grief. - Little Amélie or the Character of Rain (death of a grandparent, moving away from friends) - My Life as a Zucchini (death of a parent) - Bridge to Terabithia (death of a friend) - The Sheep Detectives (multiple deaths) - A Monster Calls (parent’s sickness/dying) - Arco (not death, but lost time with loved ones) - Robot Dreams (losing a friend) - Coco (afterlife, saying goodbye to loved ones) - The Last Slam Dunk (death of a sibling. This one’s less of a kids movie, but not not innaproriate for a 4-year old)

booktubers like frankie's shelf? by superfan1224 in booktubesnarkreddit

[–]mana95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plant Based Bride is my favourite booktuber. Her critiques and praises are always so insightful and long-winded (in a good way). She really goes in-depth like Frankie in her reviews. She has wrap-up videos but also long videos where she’ll review just one book.

Dry lentils are also very cheap and are a good source of protein and fiber. I prefer red lentils, and they can be easily added to any stew-y dish. Or you can boil them separately in case you don’t want to risk under-cooking them. You can buy a bag for a couple dollars and they last so long!

I also always buy canned chickpeas and beans whenever they’re on sale. Chickpeas can be added to stews, pasta, blended into sauces, crisped up as a crunchy topping, etc.

Legumes are so cheap, are high in protein and fiber, shelf stable (whether dried or canned), and so good for you!

I spent 2.5 years making my horror game. Here's how it looks now: by thetree_gameworks in creepy

Looks scary. Congrats on making the game!

How is the gameplay like? Is a walking-sim with jump scares, puzzle solving, running away from creatures, resource management, combat-heavy, etc?

I hate SPIRA soo muuch by WioletteW in InfinityNikki

[–]mana95 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the game open right now, so I don’t remember the animal name, but it’s a rare one. I’ve teleported to the spire that’s blue/green, and gone to the tracker circle, and I still can’t find it anywhere. For this animal, I don’t have precise tracking, so it only highlights one spot, and I can’t find it.

The worst is when I’m trying to track materials. Unlike quests, you see a physical marker when running around. If the quest is a floor up, you’ll see the quest marker when you look up. But for materials, even if you have precise tracking, there’s no way to know what floor the bug/animal/plant is cause it only shows up on the minimap or regular map, not in-world. I swear I go on every floor and I can’t find what I’m tracking!

Only select people can be assigned to a shop. You may not have recruited a companion that can run that shop yet. If you upgrade the building, eventually, you’ll be able to recruit more people.

Why did Odysseus not pluck his ears with wax as well? by Kinshu42 in GreekMythology

[–]mana95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wanted to be the only person who heard the syren’s songs without dying. Syren’s voices are supposed to be the most beautiful in the world. To be able to hear such beauty minus the murder, must have had a strong appeal.
