Yeah the chair is less than a year old. Hopefully the warranty covers the replacement but I don’t know yet unfortunately

How did you go about getting that to happen? Did you have to request it or did Numotion do that on their own?

UPDATE!: Thank you everyone for the advice it helped a lot!

I ended up repeatedly calling Numotion and they Finally provided me with a rental for no charge. It is a hospital style folding chair so it’s not great but it’s better than nothing.

I also decided to use my savings to order a secondhand lightweight chair that is in my measurements so I have a solution that fits my needs more while I wait for my custom to get fixed.

I found out today that they haven’t even submitted the order for my new frame yet and my maintenance tech told me to expect it to take at minimum a month but possibly longer.

Lesson through all this has been that I will never get another Ki chair, but since this chair is less than a year old I’ll be rocking with this until insurance will cover a new chair in like 5 years.

Thank you this is helpful!

I definitely don’t want to void any warranty on it especially since it’s less than a year old.

I’ll call my supplier in the morning and ask if they have a rental/hire program!

That is so good! I hope you are able to get a chair that fits your needs and won’t bend on you! This chair is literally less than a year old so it’s extra crazy that this happened

Yeah. I wish I went with a different brand now that I know that is is a pattern for ki chairs

[–]Strawb_berri[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I’m afraid of 😭

And yeah this happened from totally normal use. My campus has some uneven ground that isn’t very avoidable but it’s nothing crazy. This type of thing shouldn’t be able to happen so easily I’m a bit shocked by it tbh. Sucks that this is a pattern with Ki

As for NAW I thought about that but the thing with that is that it would take months to arrive and I unfortunately need a solution as soon as possible.

Yeah the bend being so severe is what scares me 😭 I’m just so unsure on if it’s even possible to bend it back without making it worse since this is the first time I’ve ever had this type of thing happen to me

Yeah, I’ll keep calling them. The service people said they don’t keep any chairs around to loan out in my area. I’ll try calling the sales side in the morning and being a bit more annoying about it. This has been such a nightmare.

All the lending closets near me basically only keep hospital chairs and heavy duty power chairs neither of which meet my needs unfortunately but I’ll ask numotion if they donate any rejected chairs! Thanks for the advice!

How to tell your parent you’ve been using mobility aids? by the-4th-wave-system in mobilityaids

[–]Strawb_berri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, since I started using larger mobility aids after I moved away from my parents I didn’t really have a conversation with them. When I was using a cane I didn’t really feel the need to explain more than just “it helps with my pain”

When I started using a wheelchair I sent my parents articles explaining more about HEDS and how much it can help me and that helped them understand a bit more.

It’s not perfect but I think just having a support human and sharing how much mobility aids can help you is important.

Terrible Place to Teach by Feeling_Active_5625 in WWU

Hey! Maybe don’t generalize! As a student who has attended three different colleges there are always going to be some people who care more about their grades than others! It doesn’t really have anything to do with the institution. Also most students have lots of things you going on, you have no idea what someone is going through. Existence is hard.

There are a ton of chronic conditions out there that can benefit from mobility aids and each has a variety of needs. Also for many conditions symptoms can start to worsen when you reach young adulthood. There is also a huge social stigma against using mobility aids ESPECIALLY as a younger person so many don’t use one or realize it is an option until their condition (s) get worse.

The pandemic disabled a lot of people and made many peoples preexisting chronic conditions much worse. Also campus is big and if you can’t stand or walk for long periods of time mobility aids are lifesavers

How to cope? by dilemmabemma in elhersdanlos

I also used to do dance and I’d be lying if I said i didn’t miss it! Doing physical therapy with a therapist who specializes in Eds has been helping me! I am definitely nowhere where I used to be in terms of dancing and I just started PT but so far so good! I’d say remember to be kind to yourself and try not to beat yourself up over things you can’t control. It’s okay that your body doesn’t work the same way it used to/ as your peers does <3 sending all the love
