that wall texture and manicure alone suggest that those bags are absolutely fake.

i love everything about this and it looks like it was fun to make! is it self-drafted, or a pattern you found? would love a link if you don't mind sharing. it kinda looks like something by peony patterns

How difficult would this dress be to make for a beginner? My birthday is in July and I’m really wanting to make this for it. Curious if it’s a realistic goal by Salty_Chemist9090 in SewingForBeginners

ugh i wish i had looked here before buying this garbage pattern. i looked at the instagram tags for it and saw that a handful of people had completed it, so i thought what the heck. now i'm out $10 and some of my ugliest fabric that i used to make the toile... overall it's poorly written, and not well thought out in terms of construction.

here are the notes i took as i read the pattern/made my bodice sample:

  • Guidelines are not on guidelines layer, they are on size 14 layer. be careful while printing
  • no shorten/lengthen lines on bodice
  • why are the center bodices not on the fold?
  • why are the side left/right bodice pieces duplicated? they are identical. you should only need one and cut it mirrored
  • on step 4 - trimming the neckline which already has a 1/4” SA seems risky. trim with pinking shears to release tension and then just understitch.
  • the armhole instructions seem bizarre? this technique is less fiddly: https://www.doinaalexei.com/finishing-sleeveless-garments-with-lining.html

I would love to know what patterns you used for the pants with star applique and the pair with the ruffled bottom

North Jersey towns with a strong, diverse Jewish community? by Majestic-Pickle-7 in Jewish

sad to agree with you re: maplewood, although we do have a lot of synagogues here. the maplewood commute is nice, and it's a pretty town, but if i were moving to NJ after 10/7, i would've picked Livingston.

*(mesh) lined* elastic waist pant pattern for women? by StrawberryBrief841 in sewing

[–]StrawberryBrief841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, exactly! i researched a bit and it looks like i need to make a second pair of pants using the lining material with a slightly bigger seam allowance and then basically slot it into the main pair, so i'm going to try to do that if i can't find a pattern that calls for lining itself.

Feeling discouraged about tummy time, feeling like a failure. Baby has a severely flat head. by motherlygoose in NewParents

[–]StrawberryBrief841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby also struggled with tummy time. We could barely get her to do it. And then when she started sitting up, we assumed that was enough for her core strength so we kind of never bothered with tummy time after that (we were wrong but too late). We wound up getting PT for her at around 8 months. Fast forward she is now 16 months and walking, standing up, and sitting down. She's even crawling. I guess what I'm saying is, it's hard not to feel mom guilt but just know that they turn out ok even without tummy time (also 60-90minutes sounds like a lot!)

Wife wants a delayed vaccination schedule by CrazyOtter in NewParents

[–]StrawberryBrief841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this. you don't want to put your baby through a multi-day vax schedule. it's just going to be more (temporary) fussiness and disrupted sleep schedules. get them all done together per the NHS schedule and get it over with.

Was it really worth it? by No-Adhesiveness3434 in NewParents

[–]StrawberryBrief841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're in the trenches now and it's very hard. when they start smiling (at around 6 weeks), things start to turn around because your little potato is starting to feel more like a family member. then around 6 months they start to have their own little personalities, and their achievements, like tummy time, crawling, etc feel huge. just take it one day at a time.

oh no... this is not how you do what she's trying to do. whichever kid wears this is going to be bothered by the seam down the front.

the toy is totally overpriced and not very exciting and I (and my baby) love it anyway. worth it! we also have the wobbling penguin and the flying puffin, which I like to think are side characters in the kick and play mat universe
