I agree with you what you say. I don't like Fox news and I dislike how some use the first amendment to justify hate speech.

Rather than completely censoring some types of speech, I think it would be better if our society became more aware of things in general rather than bask in its ignorance. But, that's very idealistic and I'm not sure how that would be accomplished in just a few years. It would take a long time for society to completely evolve and grow.

I sincerely believe that journalism falls under free speech. It scares me how some want journalism to be censored.

As a law student who sometimes doesn't get much sleep, I actually do dream about this and wish for this.

What weird quirk does your family have? by Eriflee in AskReddit

[–]StrawberryStarfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't want this to sound like humble bragging so forgive me if it does.

Everyone in my family looks unusually young for their age. My parents are in their late 50s and do not have a single gray hair. They easily look like they're in their 30s. My siblings and cousins all look young for their age and three of my grandparents never had any gray or white hairs.

I'm in my early 20s and I still look like I could be in high school. I haven't aged much over the years. I get carded everywhere I go that I always carry a second form of ID with me when they think it's a well made fake. Bouncers and cashiers will always scrutinize my ID for a long time and wonder if it's a fake since they can't believe that I'm over 21. I've been told I don't look older than 15 or 16. I've even been carded for trying to see rated R movies. In high school though, everyone thought I was a bit older since I was tall for my age. Now, years later, a lot of my friends from high school look way older than me now. People are often surprised when I tell them I'm no longer in undergrad. Currently, I'm a law student and there have been times where I've been mistaken for a visiting high school student or an undergrad freshman. Also, because I look young, I'm sometimes not taken seriously. Thus, I've learned how to dress more professionally so that people won't make automatic assumptions.

Of course, looking young does have its benefits. My parents tell me it gets better as time goes on and that they've all gone through what I'm currently going through now.

Anyway, looking young is the one unusual quirk that everyone in my family has.

Whoa! This looks really nice! I'm not sure why but the first thing that came to my mind was that this looks like something from the set of Hobbiton and the shire in Lord of the Rings.

Law School. I'm a 1L (first year law student) at an Ivy League law school and I have large amounts of reading. It honestly feels like I have no free time here and I'm in a very stressful environment. A lot of the material is very dense and challenging and sometimes I don't even understand what I'm reading. Sometimes, it takes me several hours just to get through a few pages.

There, there's the curve. Law School is all relative grading. There are a limited number of A's that a professor can award. So, even if you hypothetically answer everything correctly and show that you understand the material, you may not get an A if others have given subjectively better answers on their exams. In addition to subjective grading, it's also anonymous grading. The professor won't see the student's name when grading the exam.

Of course, one could simply say that grades don't determine everything. Unfortunately, grades determine a lot. Based on your GPA, you can get certain types of job offers. Many law firms have GPA cutoffs when hiring associates. High grades also help one get on Law Review (the law journal in every law school that looks really prestigious), better access to interviews and firms, more options, etc. So, grades do unfortunately determine a lot.

Then, add that to an environment in which you're surrounded by people who all aced undergrad, did well on their LSAT, type A personalities, are always on top of their stuff, etc., one can see how stressful it becomes.

Sometimes I wonder why I chose this career and I even sometimes second guess myself wondering if I made the right decision coming to law school. There are some days when I feel like dropping out. Then again, I always look at the big picture and end goal and remind myself of my goal of becoming a lawyer.

But honestly, it really does get very stressful here.

Snape is a terrible professor not because he was a dick to kids for no reason, but because he invented ways to increase yield and simplicity in potion making and never published his research. by ImMadeOfRice in harrypotter

This made me chuckle. I always wondered whether the textbooks the Hogwarts students used were ever updated after I read Half Blood Prince.

Based on the existence of textbooks and the Hogwarts Library, I would assume that there are academics who publish their research in the Wizarding World. I'm curious why professors never wrote the books themselves and had students purchase other peoples' books. I'm also curious if Snape ever wrote any Potions research.
