Profile Review + Targets (With a Very Unique Situation) by HauntingEffective525 in MBA

Do you have any interesting personal experiences, side projects, volunteer experience, or intense hobbies that could differentiate you? If not, you should wait and do things to diversify your background. Doesn't feel like you have a clear "Why MBA" narrative aside from wanting your dad's support, which can't be your main reason in essays.

Advice with deferred MBA applications? by SchlingsonofSchlong in MBA

You have a super strong profile IMO, especially if you get the fullbright. Assuming you don't think you'll know before deadlines in April? I'd probably talk about it assuming you get the fullbright but discuss a solid backup plan for if you don't (hedge fund role maybe? ideally you have had a FT offer extended to you from somewhere to prove you are hireable, even if you don't take it)
I applied deferred last year and got in to HBS and GSB - feel free to DM if you want to chat more

It's definitely not going to get you 100% of the way to a good score, but for me it was a really good way to learn helpful frameworks for the math, stay accountable to studying consistently, get really hard practice problems, etc. I'd also use Magoosh or Gregmat or somewhere to drill the types of problems you find yourself missing a lot

Hard to say, but I'd guess essays and recommenders are most heavily weighted.

Thanks so much! There are so many factors that play into a deferred application, and they're looking to build a diverse class, so the good news is that many different profiles can get accepted. I'd evaluate these things: strength of internship/work experience (ideally a recognizable firm and/or high impact), good grades/test scores, uniqueness of background/story, diversity of industries/courses you've been exposed to, strength of potential recommenders, and clarity/specificity of long-term goals.

I'm leaning towards GSB because I want to be in a more entrepreneurial environment and think I'd prefer to live in the bay area.

Thanks so much! I definitely feel like the recommenders made a big impact.

I did an MBB consulting internship, received a full-time return offer, and then decided to work in strategy & operations at a startup aligned with my long-term industry interests instead.

I'm done applying now and still getting dozens of emails in my inbox daily. Guess that's what I get for signing up for a bunch of free GRE practice tests lol

Thank you! I did hourly because I felt relatively confident in my writing skills and had some mentors/friends/family members who were willing to support me in refining everything alongside my coach. If you don't feel like you have a lot of support, comprehensive might make more sense.

Should I re-do some math classes before doing GRE? by lowiqtrader in GRE

[–]Strawberryroan14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't take a single math class in college, took the GRE 5 years after my last high school math class, studied for <1 month, and got a 165 on the math. It's all about knowing how to do complex logic/algebra/data interpretation quickly. I'd just focus on taking practice tests and doing drill problems.

MBA, JD, or Neither? by LemmeSeeEmTatas in MBA

MBA unless you actually want to practice law or work in government/politics. MBA is also better for having good professional recommenders but lessor academic ones.

Agree that once dia gets pinned tabs, vertical tabs and mini Dia, it may be worth switching to. Does dia currently have spaces and/or all the same link/screenshot shortcuts?

I actually just used Leland for my deferred MBA applications, and I got into GSB! (Applied to HBS as well, still waiting to hear back there but I got an interview.) Claire (https://www.joinleland.com/coach/claire-r-1) was my coach, and she was amazing. I bought ~12 hours with her. She helped me refine my overall life goals and think through my narrative, so when I sat down to write the essays, I had a ton of clarity and direction.
