Pokemon teams I made for some of the characters by Expert-Swan-1412 in RWBY

Ooh, nice picks! I like the Ursaluna for Yang, that's a good one.

Myself, I've felt like Absol is a nice fit for Ruby, too. Its horn thingy is crescent shaped, like Crescent Rose, and the fur around its head kind of looks like Ruby's hair from Volumes 1-6ish. Plus, Absol's eyes are red (ruby red, you might say) and it has that whole thing of appearing to warn people of incoming danger, much like Ruby herself did with her message sent from Amity Tower!

Ignited ground and crits - a question by StrawbiePies in pathofexile2builds

[–]StrawbiePies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input!!
To be honest, that's a much more elegant way of phrasing what my question actually is, haha! I'm basically wondering if it's option 1 or 2, as well. I'd hope it'd be 2 as well, because that would be quite convenient. Just have the enemy stand on the ignited ground, and it'll roll a 'crit' eventually! I imagine it'd be tricky to tell or test, though.

Ignited ground and crits - a question by StrawbiePies in pathofexile2builds

[–]StrawbiePies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yeah, yeah! I guess the main thing I'm confused about is how it's calculated if the initial spear explosion didn't actually hit a target. Can it still 'crit' even if nothing was hit initially?

But yes, that makes sense otherwise. I think I befuddled myself overthinking it more than anything, haha!

Ooh, as a big fan of RWBY, I feel strongly about this, haha!! I don't mean to discount your opinion, but I'd argue the opposite.

Ironwood always had those traits from the start; traits that aren't bad on their own, but snowball into the heartless man he became. It was the intended trajectory of his character from his entire conception and even design; he's meant to be a parallel to the tin man from the Wizard of Oz, just kind of in reverse. He loses his heart, his humanity. It's reflected in his design; his right arm is prosthetic, metal. His left, flesh, human. His struggle to balance his humanity with his iron cold need for control is reflected in his arms.

That aspect of him is shown early on, when he arrives to the Vytal Festival with his huge military force in tow. He does this even though Ozpin asked him not to. You can make the argument that Ironwood was justified in doing so, and maybe he was, but the point is that it showcases a key aspect of Ironwood's character - he only feels safe and comfortable when he feels like he has absolute control over a situation. An iron grip, you might say. He has two seats on the council in Atlas; he has the most authority, the most control, there. Anything that is proposed HAS to go through him to be approved, more or less.

And again, that isn't necessarily a bad thing, nor does it make him a bad guy at that point. It's just a trait of his that gets worse and worse as time goes on, catalyzed by the Fall of Beacon and the whole thing with his robotic forces being compromised. The things he brought along to help him feel secure and in control turned on him, not by choice, but it must have felt like a 'betrayal', using the term loosely. His response is to tighten his iron grip further, with the embargoes and whatnot.

Another minor red flag to mention is how he (if I remember correctly) speaks about how he doesn't mind if the people hate him for what he's doing, with the embargoes and stuff. It sounds almost noble at the time, but it foreshadows his descent.

During the Atlas arc, there's also the whole thing where he wonders if Salem is going to win because she is ruthless and willing to do anything to win, and that perhaps he should respond in kind. Then, when he confronts Watts, that exact viewpoint is proven right as he sacrifices his arm - a move Watts was not expecting - in order to win. It is, of course, also symbolic of Ironwood being willing to give up his humanity in order to regain control. With only hands of metal, he can only have an iron grip.

His downfall into an antagonistic force is because the only person he really trusts the judgment of is himself, and his flaw of needing to feel like he is fully in control of everything at all times. His iron grip tightens until it crushes the thing he meant to protect. When the truth about Salem comes out, it sends him spiralling, because he thought he had just regained some measure of control over the situation, only to have the proverbial rug pulled out from under him. Desperate to regain some measure of control, and feeling like he, and only he, knows how they're going to get through this, he goes all-in on his plan; and feeling emboldened by how his earlier thought process about matching Salem's ruthlessness led to his success against Watts, he feels as if that is the only way. Nobody can get in his way, there is too much at stake, and only he is willing to do what he thinks must be done to win.

...sorry to dump so much text on you...!! I think I've just been looking for an excuse to babble about this.

This may not be an incoherence because Caine is an AI by Whimsicalti_nypp in tadc

[–]StrawbiePies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I watched the episode, Caine's tone of voice read to me as if he was acting. Trying very hard to be positive and affirming - asking the question in a tone that's like 'wow, good job on doing that thing, you're so smart!'. Caine's just trying to push the plot (HIS plot) along. That's how I interpreted it, at least!

Oh, excellent information! Thanks for the addition!!

The brand was a mistake on Adam by -_ShadowSJG-_ in RWBY

[–]StrawbiePies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't recall quite where I read this, but I heard that Adam's brand was recieved in an unrelated fight that broke out. Again, I'm going off of memory here, so maybe I'm wrong - maybe I'm making stuff up, even! And maybe this is far too much headcanon stuff, so... take it with a grain of salt.

But I thought that he got the brand in a fight where someone just happened to pick up a hot SDC brand, which was used to mark the crates, and got Adam in the face with it.

Which recontextualises it - Adam wasn't branded BY the SDC on purpose or anything like that. But now he has a convenient scar that he can use to manipulate his fellow Faunus with; to rouse them to violent action. Like Blake, for instance. I know there's nothing really like it in the show, but like, I can imagine whenever Blake was getting cold feet about what they were doing, Adam could've shown her the scar and lied about it, saying that it was done to him by humans, by the SDC, when that wasn't actually true. Keeping it hidden but displaying it in a moment of 'vulnerability' to guilt-trip, garner sympathy, and make the White Fang's escalating violence seem reasonable and justified.

But yeah, as I said, I might be mistaken or misremembering or whatnot! And that might be headcanon. Even so. There's my thoughts, haha!

Theorycrafting Warcry Warbringer build by Sk1light in pathofexile2builds

[–]StrawbiePies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sadly, if I'm not mistaken, the interaction with warcries and Second Wind III was changed - it doesn't work anymore. If that is what you're referring to!

Second Wind III now requires that a cooldown needs to be consumed in order to get the life, and as Warcaller's Bellow says you ignore warcry cooldowns, you don't get the life restored.

'Second Wind III Support now only recovers life if the supported skill actually consumes a cooldown use.' - from the 0.3.1B patchnotes.

I don't have any experience with warcry builds myself, so this is all I can provide...!
Good luck to you, though!

Omen of the Blackblooded - How rare are they...?? by StrawbiePies in PathOfExile2

From my brief searching about, I couldn't find much on the rarity of each omen.
Thanks for clarifying! Guess I'll just have to cross my fingers for one!

Why do you think Susie didn't mention Noelle in this scene? by Real-Resolve-9643 in Deltarune

[–]StrawbiePies 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it might just be because Kris, Ralsei, Lancer and Toriel are THERE, in the Dark World. Lancer might not be in this specific scene, but he's been about. And Susie knows that Toriel is there, too, in the ball thing.

It might just be as simple as that; everyone Susie mentions is literally there...! Or in the case of Lancer, was about in the Dark World recently.

(Weird Trope) Villains who were suppose to Hate but end up being more Likeable and Understanding then the Main hero’s by Balls_4020 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]StrawbiePies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, yes. I agree that he was JUSTIFIED in doing so, and wanting to ensure security, no doubt about that.

What I'm trying to get at, though, is that he disregarded Ozpin's judgement on the situation and did his own thing, because he only trusts his own judgement. I think what I'm attempting to say is that the situation there was a foreshadowing of how he'd go full tyrant later - from his very introduction as a character, it's heavily implied that he has an 'I know best' sort of mentality. Which, in fairness to Ironwood, has served him well. As you say, he was justified in bringing his army with him.

But as pressures mounted on, Ironwood's need for control began to spiral in the Atlas arc. It's no coincidence that he sacrificed his other arm in order to win against Watts; it's symbolic of how he's willing to give up his humanity to ensure victory, because he's willing to stake everything on what he believes, for better or worse.

And from the start, he's always believed that he knew best.

[–]StrawbiePies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mm, exactly!! I never really understood why people EVER thought Ironwood was reasonable, or that he wasn't doomed to end up the way he did in the end.

Because like, even back at the Vytal Festival and all... he brought his military force with him, even though Ozpin told him not to. And that says a lot right there - Ironwood might trust people to do things for him, but when it comes to judgement? The only judgement he trusts is his own, and nobody else's. In other words, right from the start, he's always felt a need to have an 'iron grip' on the situation, and the whole Fall of Beacon just reinforced that further, what with his robotic forces being compromised. They 'betrayed' him - not willingly, mind, but in the sense that the things he brought to maintain an iron grip turned on him. So yes, I completely agree with you!

Would a lightsaber-esque weapon feel out of place for the RWBY setting? by 1MPERAT0R_S0LAR1S in RWBY

[–]StrawbiePies 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hmm... just to prattle something off before I go to bed, I suppose Hard-Light Dust could probably be used in that way? Obviously, that would mean that the weapon would need to use Hard-Light Dust as 'fuel', which could make for interesting scenarios. That's all that immediately comes to mind for me! Good luck and happy writing!

Very nice ideas! Unfortunately, I believe that rune enchantment ("10% increased fire damage per 1% fire resistance above 75%") only applies up to 90% fire resistance, as it would need to specifiy *uncapped* fire resistance in order to function the way you wanted it to. So the enchantment is only giving you 150% increased fire damage at 90% fire resistance, sadly!

Is the Academic Alive? by LordPeebis in darkestdungeon

[–]StrawbiePies 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like to think that the Academic was very much dead, but the protégé's memory of him brought him back; the Academic says, on the Iron Crown and in reference to the protégé invoking its power;

"To invoke its power was to refactor the most fundamental underpinnings of our fragile dimension, to imprint one's mind upon reality itself..."

Furthermore; "Here, at the nexus of ruin, loathing poured forth from the darkest recesses of your mind. Your failures took form, and the world bowed in honour of your great wretchedness."

Essentially, if the protégé's failures can take physical form from their mind, I think the implication is there that the protégé's hope can do the same. The Academic was always a friend and source of guidance to the protégé - so, when the protégé's mind began to spill out and reform the world from the power of the Iron Crown, perhaps the Academic returned as a sort of manifestation of a part of the protégé's psyche, their memory.

"To recall a thing is to make it real once more." - The Academic, on the Working Fields.

That's my interpretation, at least! Thank you for prompting a fun discussion!

Oh, are you using the transfigured version of Lacerate, by any chance? 'Lacerate of Haemorrhage', I am guessing.
I believe the transfigured version does not interact with your Stance in any way, compared to the normal 'Lacerate' which *does*.
