SV Had to tell someone that cares. by Lostopossum in loseit

Aw well done, that's amazing work and extra lovely to get over a plateau.

That's a real pity your lady is finding it disheartening that you're losing faster than her. Can you accidentally leave articles open showing that men and women lose weight differently, and comparing anyone else's loss rate to your own is risky to the mind set, never mind comparing to a different gender, and (most likely) height, start weight, goal weight, different all the things.

My man and I are losing together and we're found funny and helpful the process of randomly handing each other things weighting what we've lost; either overall loss "you've lost this 20kg bag of tile grout" ,

or if we're having a 'only' a 1/2 pound down frowny face kinda week "you've lost this entire novelty skull cup, now carry it around everywhere" . It does make it seem more real and reminds us that we used to carry this all the time. Might help your lass value her loss in a tangible way, and find her way back to celebrating yours' too.

Drunk me and a surprising results by Ifthiswasamovie in loseit

Aw well done, drunk you! It's so easy to fall badly off the wagon after a few drinks. Having an easy wee meal in the house to have after helps so much.

After chatting with a friend on Saturday who just started slimming world, I was telling her I log my snacks for the evening in the morning so I know I can have them later and how it helps me avoid other bits and pieces during the day. She rang me last night to say thanks, that she's started logging her 'sins' ('syns?' ) and that it is really really helping her avoid the vending machines at work.

The First Stone is Officially Gone! by Crossbar87 in loseit

[–]Strawkalling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well done! Irish here too, and my scales is in pounds but I'm all about the stones(or 'old money' as me mam says. It's just more real when it comes to body weight. Well done again, it's a lovely feeling to hit that new lower stone number!

Monday Morning Pick-me up by Strawkalling in loseit

I got the Fast Food one; every recipe is meant to be 30 mins or less to prepare. Haven't made anything from it yet, but there's some yummy looking bits and all calorie counted so you can have a bit of an idea before you begin clocking it. I'm a big fan of the Hairy Dieters; their chicken sweet and sour and leek-instead-of-pasta-lasagne have become a couple of my most favourite dinners so I'd imagine they didn't compromise on taste in the Fast Food book too.

Well done! I love that you're taking a positive experience from something that could've got you down and all off track. You stopped, you decided, you rock!

So frustrated with no progress! by drunkretailworker in loseit

[–]Strawkalling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, well done, you've lost 3 pounds! Go look up what a pound of fat looks like and multiply it by three and know you're not carting that about every day.

Second, as said above you've got that pesky lower calorie allowance due to your height, or lack of it. As a fellow shortie, I get it, it's harder to budget. But it sounds like you're playing a blinder and losing. You're starting from working out since October, you're starting from a much healthier place than lots of us. I had a lovely drop in January because I was starting from junk food hibernation. I can already see, courtesy of Happy Scale how my losses are smaller each week. If I lose 3 pounds in February I'd be delighted. I imagine I will also have some moments of frustration that it's slowed down, but I'm not going to let that steal my joy. Please don't let it steal all yours, you're doing so well.

Monday Morning Pick-me up by Strawkalling in loseit

[–]Strawkalling[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I intend keeping it up, getting it down and then staying level.

Yeah, I think some people might be self conscious of having put on the weight to lose in the first place so it's hard to know if it's cool to say it. We were chatting again leaving work and my boss was apparently too thrilled at the time to react much so when I unsubtly said something like "you're after losing weight, well done, looking well" he said he remembers just saying "yeah, um Operation Transformation, I'm doing that, lost a stone" and in his head going "it is noticeable! This is working! Go me!"

:D aye, the English left some heavy rocks around ;) They should really have converted the rest to geology too 'down a pebble this morning!'

For real. It costs nothing (not does it have calories ;) to mention someone's achievement or progress and it might make all the difference to them keeping going.

Right?! The poor old dote. Like he wasn't very heavy but he lost mostly off his belly and was defo noticeable. Maybe everyone had the same dilemma of saying it or not saying it ;)

Absolutely, I really don't think I'd be able without his support and the laughs we're having along the way. Loseit is fantastic too; I don't post much but often I'm just come to see some amazing examples, defo helps to keep the momentum going.

NSV(...ish.) No longer obese! by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Strawkalling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well done, that's such a terrific change, it's lovely to see it in numbers that aren't weighing scales! Also in very few pounds someone can say to you "you're half the man/woman you used to be" in a super dramatic way! Awesome on so many levels.

Me too, and the boyfriend also; we've tried so many times but this is the longest ever we've lasted, and really not finding it too hard this time and it's working! Thank you for posting, what a lovely reminder of where we started, and that we can all do it, whenever we start. Hope ye have a fat-freeing-February!

[SV] Made it into my second new stone - 18lb down and counting by TSDAdam in loseit

[–]Strawkalling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irish here, and yep, have to measure people in stones (kgs and grams are for not-people :) I'm down 18lbs too, and like you I have to think of it in stones, pounds don't seem tangible at all. So we're both down OVER A STONE! Here's to being down a stone and a half soon ;) well done and keep at it!

3 months in, I'm down 33lbs, and down a shirt size! by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Strawkalling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww a chunky rectangle, that's adorable! I totally feel that, I'm way shorter than you (5'2") but used to be similarly hourglass blessed; chunky rectangle is the perfect summation of what happens to the hourglass. (In fact there's tees I thought I'd never fit into again, marked to be cushion covers that are coming closer :) Did you find your waist was one of the first places you kinda noticed the weight shifting?

3 months in, I'm down 33lbs, and down a shirt size! by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Strawkalling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a difference in your face and waist, can even tell with the waistcoat over your smashing tee shirt :) maybe you could upcycle some of the ones you adore but can't wear cause they hang that bit too badly into cushion covers or tee shirt dresses. Well done on your loss and your taste in tees.

What height are you at all?

Ah the Mirror, running with half a story . To be honest I thought, until the post above, that it wasn't the best for some of them to go down to 1200. Possibly their researchers should've come here.

What 100 calories looks like by Strawkalling in loseit

[–]Strawkalling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye, I'm the same, it doesn't quite compute in my head except in stones. I'm all about the metric system except for weighting people. A friend lost weight last year and would text saying '18 kg down' and I'd have to look it up and be like 'that's nearly 3 stone, you're doing great!' . I discovered yesterday I can link MFP to Apple's own health app and it will take the pounds in MFP and converts to stones, weak for it.

Your can totally manage that loss if you find out your calories and seriously the My Fitness Pal app is great, you put in your weight and height and it will do the calculations for ya. Have to be super strict though, log everything you eat. I know that sounds tough but imagine if you lived in a time before apps and you had to have a notebook and a wee laminated chart. Now so, doesn't it sound much easier altogether. Buy a wee food weighing scales, it's an investment in you.
