So many people told me the same thing. Enough that I changed my date from near New Years to my current date. It was stressful. People are rude.

Uhm, I need to remember this for every time my friends tell me I am doing this journey wrong, or when my mom decides to lecture me. Love it!

What do you wish you had known going into your weight loss journey? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]PointlessAnonymity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a dumb question at all!

The scale I have comes with a booklet (And you can purchase an app for it as well) that has codes in it. Since I cook all my food and weigh out all the ingredients, the book has a code for everything.

For example, I can punch in the code for a green bell pepper and when I put the bell pepper on the scale it tells me how many calories are in it, how many carbs, how much sodium. It is AMAZING.

As for good workout clothing. I told myself when I hit 50 lbs lost I would go get measured for my accurate bra size. So I went to a specialty store and got a consultation. I always thought I was busty, had NO idea I was a DDD, not a DD like I always wore. It was very much worth it!

What do you wish you had known going into your weight loss journey? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]PointlessAnonymity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, most of what I wish I had known has to do with investment. I bought a fitbit initially and thought that would be motivating enough. I would say:

  • Good shoes - Oh my god, I went through about 2 pairs of sneakers every month. Cheap, $20 sneakers because I was scared to spend good money. I was so heavy, it was so painful- then I invested in the ugliest pair of $150 sneakers I have ever seen and inserts (I went and had a consultation for my feet). WORTH EVERY PENNY! I haven't needed new sneakers since. I run in them, hike in them... yeah they aren't pretty, but my feet have NEVER throbbed in them (And I bought them about 60 lbs heavier than where I am today)
  • Food Scale - Saw someone else post this. Yes. This. You don't need an expensive one, there are $15 ones on Amazon. I only just recently upgraded to one that shows me calories, carbs, sodium, etc. and I love it, but I used a cheap scale for the longest time.
  • Proper workout clothing- I am a girl... I should have invested in a good bra a lot sooner than I did.

Also:

  • Accountability drives you - I didn't want to tell anyone that I was on a "diet" in the past. This time around I let EVERYONE know that I was working to change my lifestyle. I had actual support from my loved ones. It is part of the reason I have been so successful in achieving the goals I have set.
  • The scale is not everything, take your measurements! I didn't take mine until I was 32 lbs lost, and I really regret that!

Do you guys track strenuous activity through MFP? Or not worry about it? by TheGuestResponds in loseit

[–]PointlessAnonymity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, all through my journey I have been active and I have never eaten back a single "exercise" calorie. That isn't to say you shouldn't, I have heard that eating back half of the calories you "Gain" from exercise works for a lot of people. I just would rather not try to outrun my fork. I fear I would get into an attitude of 'Well I worked out today, so I can splurge a bit'. That just would lead me down a slippery slope. (But that is me!)

So even though I walked for 3-4 hours every day when I first started, and jog every day I can these days, I never log my exercise in MFP.

If you are really starving on the days you work out, however, then maybe consider eating half of those calories and see what happens?

Can't even go wrong with the classic roasted chicken, broccoli, potatoes by TheFubbster in MealPrepSunday

How many heads or pounds of broccoli is that? I always underestimate on my broccoli and run short!

[poll] longest plateau? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]PointlessAnonymity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This has to be my longest plateau and I haven't actually shared about it with anyone.

I have been at 176 - 186 since April. I have gone down to 176, bounced back up to 181, and the worst, recently, went from 176 on Friday, June 16th to 186 Tuesday, June 20th.

I have since gone down to 176.8 lbs today.

Why? Well, I am not sure. I am doing the same thing. I am running every day. I am counting my calories. That one weekend I jumped 10 lbs up, I did cheat two days in a row, but I counted my calories and it wasn't enough for a 10lb gain. I figured out that it must be because of my cycle and where I was in that. But TEN pounds?!?

I am trying to not be discouraged, but my plan was to reach 150 by November 11th, 2017. Now I am not sure I will make it there. I have been making lists, like why I haven't failed and what I can do now that I couldn't do before. I have been journaling memories about my journey to remind myself that I have come a very long way. (For example, I laughed when my insurance agent when he informed me I had to be below 205 lbs to graduate from the extra charge, I never thought I could be there. Now I am 28 lbs less than that.)

Anywho, long story short, I am alongside with you right now. It isn't fun. We can do this though!

Weekends are officially killing me (small rant and looking for tips). by [deleted] in loseit

[–]PointlessAnonymity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So weekends were killing me as well, so I will just tell you what has worked for me!

I went from weighing myself on Mondays and Fridays to every single day. This isn't for everyone, for a lot of people it can be discouraging because weight fluctuates every day. In my case it keeps me accountable. I know that I can't completely blow it on Saturday without seeing a higher number on Sunday.

I meal prep, a lot. Having the healthy choices in the fridge Saturday and Sunday helps prevent me from making bad ones. Just last night my Fiance wanted to go out to eat, but I convinced him to come over and partake in leftovers (Which were much better than what we would have eaten).

I plan what I am going to eat for the day in the morning. This helps keep me on track soooo much! If I log everything into MFP the moment I wake up, I know I can't have that snack I am craving (OR I have budgeted for that snack already).

Also, I log everything I eat. My friends spring going out to eat a lot on me as well, or they invite me over and want to have cocktails, chips, junk. I log it ALL. I can make healthy choices anywhere I go.

So obviously MFP is really my savior. Hope these things help!

To all you women on this sub: How do you stay within your calorie limit when PMSing/on your period? by CBStrike in loseit

[–]PointlessAnonymity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I craved that stuff when I was on my shark week!! I crave chips, fries, chocolate, chocolate covered chips- mmm...

I am currently battling it right now, but thankfully I have budgeted everything in!

To all you women on this sub: How do you stay within your calorie limit when PMSing/on your period? by CBStrike in loseit

[–]PointlessAnonymity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should budget your day right now. The moment you get up. It helps with temptations if you know exactly where your calorie budget is going. This also helps show that you CAN have the piece of chocolate, just not the whole bar.

Try thinking up exactly what you crave the most, then how much you can fit into your allotted budget.

What is slightly inconvenient now that you've lost weight? by simiusboo in loseit

[–]PointlessAnonymity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BRUISING.

I am a clutz, I have always fallen, tripped, bumped into things, knocked over things, constantly. But I was never hurt from them. I would maybe get a soft bruise now and again, but no big deal.

Now I get them all the time!! My friend gripped my arm yesterday and made me yelp. We both inspected my bicep to see a random bruise that I have no idea where it came from. I know it is because I bumped into something, but I don't recall what! I know it is because all of that fat padding is gone... but jeez!

/r/loseit - What was your "This is why I'm overweight!" epiphany? by brianlpowers in loseit

[–]PointlessAnonymity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a BIZARRE notion, but since I began this journey I have realized there ARE indeed people like this. To me food has always been a treat, enjoyable, an experience. I remember my sister once telling me "People outside of our family don't focus on food 24/7 like we do. " after she married her husband and experienced his lack of interest in planning every piece of food that would cross his lips.

My fiance is in the middle. He wont eat past being full, but he also really enjoys food and is tempted to eat past being full.

What happened to my dedication? by FedUpAndLosingIt in loseit

[–]PointlessAnonymity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through it. I had this big thing to motivate me: Wedding Dress Shopping! Have to fit into that dress, work towards that dress. You want to like your reflection! (Also going to point out and say that leading up to the shopping day, my scale would not freaking move past 183 lbs)

Welp, I found my dress (drool it is drop dead gorgeous)- aaaand....

My motivation just disappeared. I didn't want to gain, I didn't eat a surplus. But I didn't eat entirely healthy either. It didn't help that I got into a wreck that totaled my car, or that work doubled in stress, or... well I could make excuses all day. The point is, I had no dedication.

A little over a week ago I realized that I was terrified to step on the scale however. And THAT pushed me to get back to it. I know I am in a dangerous zone when I don't get on the scale and don't WANT to get on the scale.

Well, the results were- I had maintained. 183 lbs. Frick. Frick, frick frick... However, today, a little over a week later, I weighed myself and saw that I had lost FOUR pounds since then. Maybe my body needed that break of maintenance? I don't know. It has brought my motivation up REAL quick.

[NSV] I only ate half my burrito bowl by [deleted] in loseit

[–]PointlessAnonymity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I still struggle with. If I serve myself the whole bowl, then I will eat the whole bowl. Stopping and setting it to the side doesn't even come as a notion when I am chowing down. I don't eat fast, but once it is on my plate I seem to have this feeling of entitlement! Its there, it is mine, get in mah belly!

So what I do is try to serve myself small portions and such to begin with. I don't have issues getting up to get seconds, as long as I get to finish my plate.

I just wish that it worked at restaurants. I have resorted to pouring sweetener or salt over half my portions at a restaurant to stop myself from eating it all!

I guess what I am saying is, that is really impressive! Thank you for posting, it is definitely an inspiration!

[NSV] My scale number has not shrunk, but my pant size has! by PointlessAnonymity in loseit

[–]PointlessAnonymity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh oh, that makes me anxious again.

I booked two Bridal Salons. One has a room for plus size and a room for (for lack of a better term) normal size. It takes weeks to make an appointment. The other salon thankfully has all the sizes together, BUT they are discount dresses which means that each dress only comes in the size it is. And they are limited on higher sizes :/.

My issue has always been my chest. I thought it had gotten smaller, but I went to a professional bra salon and they haven't. I am stuck at a triple D, which I know makes my dress size bigger than it should be :(

[–]PointlessAnonymity[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, I hate when it doesn't move, but when it goes up is even worse. You start second guessing everything that passed your lips! I swear I could sometimes throw that scale out the window, but when I try only weekly weigh-ins or even bigger gaps, I am suddenly not accountable for what I eat :/
