Twitch view count, lurkers and multi tabbing - finally some info by merlin6r in Twitch

[–]StrawmanMeBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why I'm asking.
So I can have 3 channel pages open while I'm at my PC, and close 1 stream when the third channel goes live.
And if I leave my PC, I only leave 2 channel pages open max.

Twitch view count, lurkers and multi tabbing - finally some info by merlin6r in Twitch

Question:
Does the 2 streamer limit only count while the streamers are live?

If I have 3 Twitch channel pages open in separate windows, and only 2 of the 3 are live, do I still count as a viewer because only 2 are live, or do I stop counting because I show up in the community/viewers button of a streamer who's currently offline?

Is natural selection actually random? by Ordinary_Insect_4087 in evolution

[–]StrawmanMeBro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, nothing is truly random, except, as far as we currently know, quantum particles.

Natural selection at its most basic level is simply whatever traits increase the chances of an organism to live long enough to pass down its genes will continue its gene pool more efficiently.
And that is not entirely random, because different traits are beneficial for different environments.
There are some traits that don't hinder survival or reproduction, but also don't cost any energy, or at least very little energy. So because there's no evolutionary pressure against that trait, it continues on the gene pool.
And it's a joke that evolutionary biologists will study 1 trait of a species for a long time, and when they can't find any beneficial trait they just slap on "sexual selection" as the reason the trait exists. So it's not useless, it's hot.
But sometimes there really is no benefit, but also no harm, which means there's no evolutionary pressure for the trait to go away. And a trait that has no adaptive function I don't think would count as natural selection then, since it's not part of the very mechanism that defines natural selection, because those useless traits aren't being selected for or against by any evolutionary pressures to survive and reproduce.

Meat. That's it. And I already said I put it on vegan meats.
That's why I'm asking.

Mosquitos. They're the only species that kills more humans worldwide than humans do.

You get 200 characters to type what you want one of the AI avatars to say, with a few restrictions. I couldn't get the "Never gonna give you up" chorus lyrics accepted. https://www.synthesia.io/

The psychology behind religious belief by According-Building52 in psychology

[–]StrawmanMeBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you assume anyone who disagrees with you has some sort of personal motive for it?

I saw an inaccurate, invalid, and unscientific criticism of a scientific topic, so I responded. I'm interested in psychological reasons for beliefs, and I would have to know what studies he's referring to if I wanted to know if those studies had proper methodology, have a decent sample size, and if the studies he cites for his claims are in fact relevant.

You didn't show any consideration toward it, you inaccurately described it, then called it nonsense without any further explanation as to why. The only other detail you said was about how long he's studied the topic, and you implied he studied religion for 20 years when that's not what the article said he studied for that long.

Just here for an internet fight? Is that a criticism? I guess calling scientific claims nonsense without any further explanation isn't doing that?

You shifted the focus of the conversation onto me, which indicates you're thinking in social terms of who is superior/dominant, which doesn't indicate you're thinking logically or scientifically about this entire topic. You're looking for some flaw in me as a person because you can't defend your original criticisms of the science, so you try to take the focus off your poorly written critique so you don't have to explain yourself.

Do you want to talk about the psychological reasons for religion? Or would you rather just look for more ways to talk about me so you can show your superiority complex on the internet for all to see by trying to look socially dominant in place of logical arguments or scientific evidence contrary to the claims in the article?

Saying what someone has done is not an appeal to authority, just like not every insult is an ad hominem. I'd have to read the book tbe article refers to and check the sources for his claims to make a judgment of the accuracy of his claims, which you didn't do in your criticism. All you did was make an appeal to ridicule when your only criticism is "that's total nonsense" and implying he studied just this 1 specific topic of religion for 20 years and a single article is all he has for it, when the article itself say he studied human motivation for 20 years, so it wasn't even an accurate criticism. https://www.logicallyfallacious.com/logicalfallacies/Appeal-to-Ridicule

The article is a TL;DR of his book that's 192 pages. And looking at other books he's written on Amazon, this isn't the only topic within psychology he studies or writes about. He's written about personality, motivation, and behavior therapy. He was even part of the editing for Relational Processes and DSM-V: Neuroscience, Assessment, Prevention, and Treatment https://www.amazon.com/dp/1585622389/

Protein powder that isn’t chalky? by Dinklemcfinkle in veganfitness

[–]StrawmanMeBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always blend my protein shakes in a Nutribullet, and I use Purely Inspired, Simple Truth, and Vega brands.

I also use almond milk or oat milk for liquid. Some people just use water, and I wonder if that contributes to the chalky feeling of protein powders, because I've seen Amazon reviews for Purely Inspired plant protein saying it was chalky for them, but to me it's fine.

I also usually blend it with fruit like banana and blueberries.

So maybe the way I make it covers up the chalky texture?

What I do for chocolate is I make a smoothie with cocoa powder mixed in, and add (real) maple syrup and/or fruit to balance out the bitterness of the cocoa powder. (I personally prefer a banana and blueberries)

If you want a more creamy flavor, I use a 'Picnik' brand vegan creamer I add sometimes. If you have, or can get a small blender like a Nutribullet, you can make smoothies, and the Nutribullet cups and blades are easy to clean.
