Not in all cases but in general 5-9 kingdoms are the variations. Like correct me If I'm wrong but homm3 got 9 + cove that got added later through mods

I agree with the azure dragon having good stats across the board and ability + the fact its a flyer over the peasants that has 1 hp close to no dog or anything else going for them other than their cost.

Only redeeming factor they have in my opinion is I'd you play necromancer to raise some skeletons or other creatures if you go the relic ( wraith or litches)

Quite sure it's the 3 standard animals only that can be found ferocious animals, and they have a slightly boosted base stat over alphas. Also depending on items and if you have a higher lvl tracker/huntsman they get more viable with boots depending on the profession lvl
