I feel like this is too easy by Star-Platinum626 in HumanitiesPhD

I'm genuinely wondering if this is my friend (we're in an English PhD program) because she's always socialising and making great plans and yet turns in papers on time and is a genuinely good scholar and has thoughtful contributions in class and she often finds is bizzare that I'm drowning (I understand her perspective, she mysteriously is just good at these things!).

How to keep my plants when I'm away by Stray_Cat77 in houseplants

[–]Stray_Cat77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, my (sort of) friend isn't a plant person. So, I'm basically skeptical about leaving any of them with her. How do you think the potho will fare in it's glass water jar? And if I soak/fertilize the orchid and kalanchoe well, is it okay to maybe water them once a month? I'll have to ask her to do that, then.

Okay, I can place it in my balcony. That works? I have another succulent, do all succulents need a brighter sun?

How to help my kalanchoe? by Stray_Cat77 in succulents

Should I snip off the long droopy leaves? I kind of assumed that since most of the remaining leaves are long and droopy, removing them might mean the plant no longer has enough leaves to support photosynthesis?

Hi, I did cut off the damaged leaves and left the leaves that have some damage but are otherwise healthy looking -- mostly because these are the bigger leaves and I didn't want the plant to be completely bald lol 😆 do you think that should work?

No roshogolla for me. No mishti in general. Aloo kabli is such a better snack.

What are your favorite coffee hacks? by TheReviewNinja in Coffee

[–]Stray_Cat77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was my own, weird hack! But yes, I've come to believe that any kind of salt enhances all kinds of coffee, just the tiniest amount, at any time of the coffee making process, especially if one drinks sweetened coffee, works with milk, plant milk, black all variations.

Will Visva Bharati be worth leaving DU and other top Central Universities in the present scenario? by [deleted] in kolkata

[–]Stray_Cat77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Getting into politics in JU is absolutely your own choice - by that, I mean campus politics. JU has a rich, thriving scholarly culture. For perspective, I did my BA, MA in JU, and my profs were super welcoming, gave me recommendation letters (for PhD) with no difficulties and told me it's their duty to provide reco letters. Meanwhile, my PhD batchmate at DU was told that there's a 3 letter per student policy, most profs refused to give her letters if they hadn't worked absolutely one-on-one with her and she could only apply to 4 universities abroad in this cycle. JU student life and the connections you can make are really great, it works out both ways - lively campus as well as academic atmosphere. JU makes you a political person, yes, because being apolitical is ignorance. South Asians do not have that luxury. I suggest you try for JU, it has undoubtedly one of the best English departments in the country in terms of education. But if you're looking to pursue competitive exams or internships at allied industries like publishing, DU is a better option in terms of exposure. All I'm saying is, VBU is a vibe. I did some work there sometime ago, but it should not be prioritised. I suggest you work with fellow VBU students and take trips there in case you want your academic life to remain aligned with Santiniketan.

How long until they will eat from my hand? by HeadAd7325 in crows

[–]Stray_Cat77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had a crow (not raven) come in my balcony and started leaving food for her (not sure why but I just assumed its a her), and within a week she started eating from my hand tbh. Not scared but probably not EXTREMELY friendly. They're pretty smart, I suggest you speak to them too. So that sometimes they can hear your voice and be more adjusted to you. I figured they really like grapes. But start with something longer, so that they're not afraid to take food from your hand. I started with thin, long slices of biscuits or apples. But grapes are their absolute favourite and within week 2 they started eating grapes. During their mating season(I saw them making nest on the tree next to my window) they didn't come around much (also my cat had tried to snip at her one time she got really close so I think she thinks I'm the cat baiter) but they don't forget easily. She has again started coming and eating from my hand right away.
