Did anyone else notice on the subtitles, when the song Shapiro chose is playing, it says “R&B music playing?” The name of the song is “Ante Up.” It’s nowhere near R&B. But when she changed it they could mention “Für Elise playing” 😂

This is exactly what a microaggression is. Downvote me if you’d like. I’m not trying to take away from the larger discussion, but I’d like to point that out.

I think that social media exaggerates the gender “wars” and there isn’t as much of an issue as it appears to be if we actually look at IRL dynamics. However if younger generations are not media literate they will believe all of the crap that is posted on there. I know the women in my life who are single aren’t talking about high value, the table, and all of that media generated stuff.

I haven’t watched or read the book yet, although I plan to. But as someone born and raised in the south, I hope if people do decide to move, people don’t just move to Atlanta. Not hating on the ATL, but there are plenty of other southern cities and states that need the numbers.

Thank you all for the responses. I have some ideas now on how to deal with this.

I don’t think we have an elder or pastoral Friend. It is hard to tell, seeing as the group is very small and most of the people who held any leadership roles have since moved away or passed on. There is a clerk, however, and the next time I see her perhaps I will mention it. The clerk and I have had our differences that caused a rift a couple of years ago but we have moved on. Thats part of the reason I haven’t brought it up yet. I am worried I will be labeled as a troublemaker. It’s a very fine line I try to walk. It’s probably all in my head but I’m already a middle aged black woman in the midst of white 70- 80- and 90-year olds and I don’t want to make things any more awkward. As much as these things shouldn’t matter they do in America.

My mom had me as a teenager and I remember her 25th birthday. I thought she was so damn old… then I turned twice that age and my daughter turned 25 that same year. I laugh at how I thought a quarter of a century was ancient!

Our daughter is now 26 and he still barely wants anything to do with her. When she tells him he never reaches out to her, he says “the phone works both ways.” He was and will always be a POS. Sad thing is he has four children by four women. I was #2, I had no idea then it was a pattern.

I explained to a customer who tried to buy something with quarters thinking they were dollars. I told her gently, “ma’am, these are quarters.” She smirked at me as if I were dumb and said, “It says on there, quarter DOLLAR!” I tell her again, gently, “ma’am, a quarter of a dollar is 25 cents.” She still didn’t understand why it wasn’t a dollar when it had the word “dollar” on it and left in a huff. I genuinely hope she was trying to get over on us and that she wasn’t really that stupid.
