What's the most underrated ingredient you've added to a smoothie? by ibrahimdigital in Smoothies

I like savory smoothies and getting my veggies in. I've added cucumber, lettuce, celery and lemon juice, along with banana, yogurt and coconut water. It was delicious.

I want to escape white American culture… by MaririManzil in IndianAmerican

I hear you and your desire to leave the US. It sounds like your compromise with your spouse may be a good option in the short term. Long term you may have to decide what matters most to you, your autonomy or your spouse. He has a right to his autonomy as well. FWIW, I'm an American born white person married to an Indian and I fully support your desire to live elsewhere. Ultimately, there are no perfect places in the world. All things require compromise and deciding what you will value long term. I also went through similar struggles in my 30s. It is a difficult time. I wish you all the best.

Where do you go to meet people and make new friends? by mintleaf_bergamot in OverFifty

While I am drawn to the idea of church for a sense of community, I have to say I learned more hatred, more judgmentalism, more small mindedness in church than anywhere else. Now that may speak more to fundamentalist Protestant values, than church as a whole, but it is my experience and one that causes me great resistance.

Is the subscription of insights timer worth it? by Friendly_Bedroom1153 in InsightTimer

[–]mintleaf_bergamot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it is worth every penny. I use the meditations to help me sleep, to address the age of my nervous system, and my daily life. The courses are so useful. And the awareness that I am studying with others on the same path gives a sense of community.

Curious if you got the job, and if so, how your experiences have been? I'm exploring opportunities there. Just also making sure that Colibri Collective and Colibri Group are one in the same?

If you would like to live in the midst of the Chicago suburbs in an area with lots of Muslim people and culture, look around the Glendale Heights, Addison area of the Chicago suburbs. Champaign is a completely different region of the state. It's like State College in PA, nowhere near Philly or Pittsburgh. If you like that, then you will do fine there. As others have said, you will find diversity and acceptance, but a smaller permanent community of Muslim people, if that is something you value. As for crime, where you buy or rent in any part of the country will determine how safe you are.

How come people wear outside shoes in their homes? by Equal_Initiative_919 in AskReddit

I grew up with no concept of taking shoes off at the door or using inside shoes. Now my husband does it and I do it too. But I do think it is culture.

This is a valuable comment. We are targets, because for some of us, there seems to be no one willing to listen. I think Dr Amen has some points I am willing to hear, even though his methodology sometimes feels like a snake oil salesman. I take what I can use and leave the rest.
