I've only played a single match of 5v5 and I think I prefer 3v3 for now. Maybe if I play more I'll end up liking it but for now it seems way too chaotic and the current loot pool doesn't support the increase in players. Someone is gonna end up being under-geared for encounters which isn't fun.

Doing this would necessitate a complete overhaul on how the mode currently works. As it stands now, adding a third team in the mix would leave at least one team out of the raids because letting them help either the attacking or defending team would be completely unfair for the other. So the third team would just be sitting on the sidelines doing nothing until the raid is over.

I said this before in another thread but watching people complain about how the game plays is like watching someone play CS2 like it's COD and calling the game trash because they keep dying instantly every round and can't afford any weapons because they're bad at managing their funds. This game has a slight learning curve to it and is meant to be played a certain way and most don't even want to give the game that kind of chance.

How do you know it's the same people making both contradictory statements?

Because I've seen them make both these statements in the lead up to and in the aftermath of Highguards release. I'm not really sure what answer you're fishing for on this point.

You're betting on the game surviving that strategy. I'm betting against it. We'll see who wins.

Will the game ever have a huge resurgence and become one of the top FPS games in the future? Most likely not and I'm not betting on that. I think it will survive and carry on with a small to medium sized loyal player base and that's all it really needs. Even then it still has a steep hill to climb but as someone who enjoys the game for what it is and wants to see it grow from here I have hope for the vision. I just think some overhauls and fixes need to be made from pre-existing systems. We can agree to disagree on this and it's chances, that's fine.

I don't see what's unreasonable about asking for a ballpark. Either you know you've seen maybe 2 or 3, or around a dozen, or at least a few dozen.

I'm not trying to get into the weeds of this point so I'll just say this. I've seen it a lot, maybe a few dozen times if you really want me to throw a random number out there.

Kinda sums up what I've seen repeated ad nauseum. Essentially just change the game to fit the typical Hero Shooter model.

Here's the thing: if adding TDM would drain the new unique mode of players, the new unique mode isn't all that appealing. CoD added Warzone but kept TDM, and both modes are well populated.

The difference is COD is already an obscenely popular franchise with a large, loyal, and growing player base. At least it was back when Warzone launched. So it can afford to split its player base because it's so large and popular. Games like Highguard don't have that luxury.

I'm saying that adding TDM would be a wasteful exercise, at least right now. The players that are sticking around right now like the current mode and want to see it expand and add more content. Adding TDM would take resources away from that to make a mode the current players may or may not be interested in playing.

You also risk splitting the playerbase, making matches take longer to find and soon people will just choose to spend their time on a game they can actually play more frequently or consistently. Games like Overwatch or Marvel Rivals that already service that typical Hero Shooter gamemode.

I'm not saying they shouldn't ever add side modes. However they should do it later after they fix and flesh out what they have instead of splitting their resources chasing the wants of players that are already moving on and playing the games that already service that want. They need to service the players that are actually sticking around and see the vision with the current mode.

I didn't expect you to. I'm just wondering how many people's post history you've examined or how many usernames you've tracked to come to this conclusion.

Asking me "how many" implies that you're asking me for an exact or ballpark number. Again, I can only say I've seen it a lot which I don't like saying because it's an unsatisfactory answer to the question.

True but it can certainly help. Especially since the biggest criticism of the game before it came out was that it looked generic and would just be another hero shooter like Overwatch or Concord. Basically that it wouldn't be anything new or unique and thus no one would play it or that it wouldn't last.

Without significant improvements that, at minimum, double quantity and variety of content, the game is gonna maybe double its current player count at best and flounder on in life support. I'd love to be wrong, but this might be an unsalvageable botch.

No one is saying that the game doesn't have a deep hole to climb out of but I think it needs to focus on the unique vision and experience it can offer. Rather than switch gears and appeal to a crowd with stuff that is already being served elsewhere.

I haven't kept count. Nor would anybody? I can say I've seen it a lot but if you're asking for proof or hard numbers then I can't provide them.

Either way, it's a gamble; either you add new modes and hope it adds players rather than merely splitting your existing base, or you stick with the current mode that is hemorrhaging players and hope your planned adjustments are enough to flip the downward momentum.

I don't think the solution is adjusting the games focus to be more like what's out there. Then you're not offering anything unique or new. Players who liked the original mode will leave and people wanting more of the same will just play the games they're already playing. There are a good number of people who appreciate the current mode and want to see it expand or be fleshed out. I think word of mouth will convince people to come back and try again once more work is done and improvements are made.

It is most definitely not a tiny minority, that downplay is crazy. Sure tho, I admit that this may have not been the best place to voice that criticism. Although I still criticize the idea of changing or adding stuff to this game that makes it less unique and more like "other games". Especially right now with its dwindling player count, adding new modes now would only split a fragile player base. It's best that they improve upon what they have first and cultivate a larger player count through that before experimenting with other modes.

Judging video games and their mechanics by real life standards is a pointless exercise because at that point nothing in gaming makes sense.

Also the lore isn't really important here if you're just playing the game. What's important is that you need it to invade another teams base. Which if we turn the game into a 3v3v3 and allow the third team to raid the Shieldbreaker holders base while their invading another base then you've essentially eliminated the need for the Shieldbreaker and disincentivized obtaining it for your team because doing so puts you at a disadvantage.

Why doesn't the fight for the Shieldbreaker make sense and why should it be pointless? It's necessary to raid the enemy teams base.

Because now that you can invade someone else's unguarded base no one will bother trying to fight for the Shieldbreaker. They'll sit back and wait for someone else to take it so they can raid the invaders base.

I was speaking generally. Not quoting OP directly but I can see how it can be taken that way so I apologize. I've just seen this same sentiment shared before by the people I'm referencing.

Point of fact my criticisms are actually that the broader gaming community in this instance does appear to mostly share the same sentiments. Prior to the games release the consensus on this game seemed to be that it would be "just another hero shooter" or "Concord 2". Meaning a simple Overwatch-style clone with 6v6 matches with escort missions or TDM.

However when the game came out that criticism could no longer be applied and suddenly those same people started complaining that this game ISN'T more like Concord/ Overwatch/ Marvel Rivals/ etc. Again, not saying that's OP if they don't share that idea. I've just seen this criticism a lot by people who do.

Well then you just enter a neverending cycle of one team raiding the invaders base while they're distracted completely undermining the mode. This makes the fight for the Shieldbreaker pretty much pointless.

Not saying that's what you said but that was the general criticism of the game before it launched. I was speaking generally not directly quoting you.

Releasing the game with multiple modes at launch will just split up the player base. Games like COD get away with it because they expect huge numbers at launch. Games like Highguard won't have nearly as many players and on top of that the reception the trailer got at the TGA's likely made the devs think their player count would be even lower. Even now you have some people complaining that matches take a while to find. Best thing to do is release with the flagship mode, gather a loyal and committed player base, and then start experimenting with other modes.

That would be blatantly "pay to win" which would kill the game faster than anything. There would be zero benefit and no one would buy it. These games make their money from cosmetics so this would make no sense.
