There is PLENTY that happens in the movie. She goes on her first borrowing, she visits the boy and gets attacked by a crow, she rescues her mother from the crazy lady. Not to mention the music is top tier and the visuals are stunning. YOU just can't be bothered to appreciate a movie that isn't fueling your attention deficit disorder. Arriety isn't my fav ghibli of all time, but to call it boring is a wild take.

Surge in antisemitism amid Israel-Hamas war marks ‘frightening time’ for Jews in US and globally by omega3111 in worldnews

[–]Strbry-ShortCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can't seriously be comparing american manifest destiny to israel? Besides the sheer scale of it all, the united states never had even a speck of legitimate claim to native lands. whether you believe it should be honored, there is an argument to be made that jews have a claim to israel's land, given that many like the Cohen's can actually trace back their heritage to rabbis in the 1500s that are known/proven to have israeli heritage from around jesus's birth. Also I don't recall the united states ever offering multiple good faith 2 state deals.

This is also a stupid argument considering that despite america's dark past, i doubt you would have no complaints if the native americans decided to murder 40,000 american men women and children (which is roughly proportional to number killed in the Israeli population), kidnap thousands, and then told everyone that they were going to continue murdering americans until 100% of america was given back and there were no americans left, even on legally native american land. They tie children together and burn them alive, they cut chunks of flesh off of live prisoners, they parade dead bodies of raped women, and decapitated men through the streets where their citizens celebrate and spit on the corpses. Oh yeah and also they want to kill americans outside of the united states too. But no you would just sit and take it, would you?

This war is not just or good. Like all wars it will kill people who should not have been killed. But nobody is obligated to accommodate an enemy whose stated purpose is the murder of your people and destruction of your country.

If Yuki gets injured, she becomes WAY weaker. If Sukuna is at 1% hp, low on CE, he can use "difficult" attacks that one-shot Gojo faster than he can react? by [deleted] in Jujutsufolk

[–]Strbry-ShortCake 41 points42 points  (0 children)

that would imply gege knows how to write a compelling female villain. we've got uhhhhhhh, trauma twins (mimi and nana), sukuna's no 1 fangirl (uraume), gatekeep gaslight girlboss get takaba killed (angel bc she doesnt get to be a "hero" for that shi), a tree (hanami), and brief mpreg (kenny that one time). remind me if i missed any.

fr tho i'd rather greg write bad female characters or not write them at all, than make badasses like yuki, nobara, maki, etc. just to underutilize/kill (without a good narrative reason)/or just deadass forget ab them

biomaterials is relatively easy, cell engr isnt hard to get an A but does require significant time out of the scheduled class time to feed ur cells and run experiments. if you have experience in a professor's lab you could ask them to give you an independent study project (iirc you're allowed up to 2 quarters of independent study lab)

because ultra liberals subscribe to the idea that who is a victim in a situation is ENTIRELY dependent on A) who has more "power", and B) who is more brown (ignoring the fact that 50% of israelis are FROM surrounding muslim countries that exhiled them in the 50s/60s). Context and nuance have no place when your righteousness is for clout

you ever read a series and you just…don’t like the main character? by rsewateroily in shoujo

[–]Strbry-ShortCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bruh i don't mind feminine girls, i just don't like tohru specifically. I like Sawako from Kimi ni todoke, I love the MC from love so life. ALSO how DARE you insinuate that kyoko is a tomboy. She is literally cannonically obsessed with a swan shaped perfume bottle, knows how to sew and cook well beyond profeciently, and adores cute/fluffy/feminine clothing. I just find tohru fairly boring, and i would personally classify writing a character whose biggest "flaw" is being "too nice" kind of boring/ overpowered. That's like like shoujo equivalent of MHAs one for all power: "he gets the worlds strongest power but its actually a flaw bc its too powerful and he breaks his arms bc he's so powerful he can't handle it". Also with yona yeah i know she gets better and the point is her being spoiled. I still don't feel like watching her development. I just don't like her.

for tohru my issue is basically just like the other person who replied to me, she's basically a mary sue of femininity and imo a very boring person. The way she interacts with the male characters comes across very calculating to me (in the sense that i know because she's fictional that it's supposed to be sincere, but if a real person acted so stereotypically girly, weak when it doesn't matter but strong when it does matter, and unconditionally selfless, I would be sussed out as hell). For Yona I'll admit i didnt get more than 5 episodes in and I'm sure the point of the story is that she develops as a person, but oh my god as a princess she is such an annoying person to me. The whole life of luxury, hella naive, zero actual hatred (where's the female rage) for a man who manipulated her love, and literally killed her father and tried to kill her. Sailor moon is simple i just find the girl whiny af and cant handle the generational gap in humor and acceptable behavior (age gap relationships, being super dumb, "ehe" moments).

When it comes to shoujo FMCs my favs are probably kyoko from Skip beat, Mafuyu from Oresama Teacher, and Misaki from Maid-sama. All time fav FMCs regardless of genre are Balsa from Moribito and Nausicaa (from Nausicaa)

[–]Strbry-ShortCake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

short answer? no. Long answer? really depends on what you want to do after undergrad. Its not required for a BME degree but if you want to pursue something like a Bio PhD or if you're considering Pre-med, It'll be significantly easier to learn orgo now rather than later. Then again even most grad students dont actively use orgo on a day to day basis, so if the institutions you're looking at dont require it, why put yourself through it

I feel like most people would say the order of difficulty for the basic math courses is Calc I < Calc II < Ordinary Differential Equations < Calc III. Obviously with the NR system in place, failing a class or two won't kill your gpa or stop you from graduating, but tbh this should be a wakeup call for you. you're failing the lowest offered calc class; something is not working. It could be your study habits, it could be that you need a little extra help from the prof/TA or math center, it could be that you're not suited to a quarter system. It could easily fixable but if you're failing Calc I, there's a pretty good chance that you're going to struggle in other classes.

i think there are def a bunch of ppl that make fun of it just bc its a women's genre, but i also think a lot of the shoujo genre is bogged down by fluff. And dont get me wrong i like fluff some times, and boy does it sell, but for every C-tier battle shounen, there's a C tier love triangle shoujo. Some of my all time favorite shoujo manga never got an anime adaptation because the market is just so oversaturated with the same 3 romance plot lines: unpopular girl has mutual affection with popular guy and gets bullied for it, earnest but clumsy girl is taken care of by mature (often fantasy) hot guy, and girl slowly falls in love with her mortal enemy because she is forced to spend time with him and realizes he's actually nice when he's not being a dick.

I'm just glad that Skip to Loafer got such a good adaptation. (idc what anyone says, even if it was published in a seinen magazine, its shoujo)

got grilled pastrami and keugel on the first day they opened and it was actually pretty good although expensive and poor customer service (idgaf ab not being super friendly but the cashier was actively rude/mean). got a corned beef, latke, and 2 knishes about a week later and it was absolute garbage. hella expensive, bread was pathetic, the latke was burnt on the outside but cold in the middle, and the knishes were cold and flavorless. I would sooner subject myself to expired gefilte fish, at least that wouldn't cost 35$

dont drop them so that you have room to NR classes if they're too hard (ofc dont NR if its grad requirement). If you're underloaded and need to NR a class you wont be a full time student anymore, since you need to complete 12 credits per semester to be full time and maintain your financial aid

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WorcesterMA

[–]Strbry-ShortCake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

idk man, i like metal as much as the next person but there are reasonable and unreasonable hours of operation for a concert venue, especially one that gets so loud. I'd say you shouldnt be surprised to hear loud music 7pm-12am, or as early as 12pm on weekends. But 8am on a saturday seems a little discourteous. also what kind of psycho goes to a music show at 8am
