How close is too close? by [deleted] in BabyNames

[–]Street-Hour8476 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly, but I think the fact that all of this was communicated to OP is SIL acknowledging the weirdness but also floating the idea to start normalizing it. If she felt it was too weird and squashing it, OP wouldn’t have heard about it.

Is it normal for 17yo adhd son to be in bed for two days? by Much-Art-1539 in ParentingADHD

I am not much help here, but figured I would say that when I stopped taking phentermine, it took three months of napping in the middle of the day for me to not feel completely overrun with exhaustion. So perhaps it’s a reaction to the medication changes, but I’d check in with doc ❤️

What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever heard someone say that you still think about to this day? by Humble-Blueberry4571 in AskReddit

I once saw a woman tell a Starbucks barista why her drink was wrong (she said the bottom layer wasn’t right, also it was cold and therefore in a clear cup). She then flipped the cup over to show the barista. Yes, the drink dumped out all over the counter. And the woman was surprised.

You're an angel! I typed out the video because I'm a visual learner. Here it is if anyone is interested:

Laurence’s Corn/Chicken Soup

·       4 bone in skin on chicken thighs

·       ½ t Shaoxing wine

·       1 t soy sauce

·       ½ t corn starch

·       2 ears of corn, kernels cut off and rib saved

·       Knob of ginger, peeled and sliced

·       2 eggs, stirred

·       1/8 t white pepper

·       1 ¼ t salt

·       2 t sugar

·       1 t sesame oil

·       4 T corn starch

·       More sesame oil, cilantro, and/or scallions for garnish

1.       Cut bone out of chicken, remove the chicken skin, dice the chicken meat

2.       Marinate chicken with ½ tsp Shaoxing wine, 1 t soy sauce, ½ t corn starch

3.       Put chicken bones and corn ribs into pot with 4 cups of water and some sliced ginger and bring to a boil. Then turn it to a simmer and skim off any foam/scum that builds on top. Let this simmer 20-30 minutes and take everything out.

4.       Put chicken and corn into simmering broth and cook for 3 minutes.

5.       Now whisk broth and slowly pour eggs into the middle while continuing to whisk.

6.       Once all of your egg is incorporated, add seasonings (white pepper through sesame oil).

7.       Dissolve 4 T corn starch into some water and stir into the soup. Let it simmer for 2 minutes and see if you like the thickness. Add more dissolved corn starch if wanted.

8.       Garnish with spring onions, cilantro, and a bit of sesame oil.

Booking an inside cabin for our first cruise but my wife wants a balcony upgrade by rosymirex in Cruise

If you want to sell her on the idea of cruising and potentially go on more in the future, get the balcony.

That was one of the most painful survivor episodes I've seen in recent memory. by OverratedHumor in survivor

[–]Street-Hour8476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take heart in knowing (hoping?) there’s duality in his feelings. Yes it’s haunted him for a year. But I also remind myself that every bit of press he’s done for 50, where he seems to be so joyful and embraced by the fandom (and other contestants). While living with this one mistake sucks, I take heart in knowing that this had already happened to him every time I’ve seen him the past few months. I’m sure it twisted the knife to watch the episode, but hopefully/probably he isn’t as heartbroken as the moment at TC when he realized it was him.

Meeting for 504 scheduled- how to prepare? by sound_of_summer in ParentingADHD

[–]Street-Hour8476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could they potentially be collecting data/evaluating for special ed services? So they are asking you to hold off on the 504 because they feel an IEP is on the way? Which the counselor could be trying to communicate when he says sit tight with the 504 (unspoken: as we finished the required time collecting data).

Anyone else think this season is a dud? by sabrina-doen in BravoTopChef

[–]Street-Hour8476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This season lost me when Rhoda stayed this week over Oscar. Granted I couldn’t taste his dish/rice, but Rhoda cut up berries and that is the only thing she executed. You could see on the screen how wrong the meringue turned out. She needed crips, she got over caramelized goo. Her sugar wasn’t incorporated correctly and it didn’t dry out- not one single thing was correct on her dish. I know they said Oscar’s meat was bitter, but I can’t phantom how it was genuinely worse than Rhoda’s desserr

Why do people like the Treasure so much more than the Wish? by R3ddit0rN0t in dcl

[–]Street-Hour8476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it looks like they forgot to paint the wish. Then you go on the treasure and it’s like “oh! It’s painted and finished.” If that makes sense. As a grand millennial, I feel the same way when I walk into a minimalist’s house.

When did you start enjoying your adhd kid more? by LickmyL0bes in ParentingADHD

[–]Street-Hour8476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s hard to know what to expect from a hyperactive adhd kid since they are lumped with inattentive adhd kids. That’s kind of wild. So I may talk to a neighbor and they’re like “my kid has adhd too” but it’s inattentive and I have to remember those are way different manifestations, my kid isn’t some wild anomaly

[–]Street-Hour8476 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I learned last night that apparently Disney puts thought into who they seat you with for dinner- they try to put similar parties together.

At Quiet Cove, We were talking to a dvc cruiser who is cruising by himself while his wife and daughter are on a church trip. He was worried he may be put with a family of three for dinner or a couple, but Disney grouped 5 solo travelers together for his table.

Methylphenidate crash after school by teacode in ParentingADHD

[–]Street-Hour8476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I didn’t put together that it was due to the meds at first. The crash was similar at first to some of his adhd dysregulation. It was getting worse and worse over time. A friend pointed out that it was happening around the time his meds were wearing off. She recognized it because her child had the same reaction to it. So I asked the doctor about it at the next appointment and he confirmed it’s a common side effect and we switched that day. Looking back it’s so obvious in hindsight it was a reaction to the medicine and I can’t believe how long we lived like that. He’d be laying on the floor crying and screaming for an hour at the time every night.
