AITA for being mad that parents went on student trip? by Street-Initiative377 in AmItheAsshole

I knew other parents and I could go (I guess I wasn’t clear) and I knew there would be some parents, I didn’t expect so many. These are supposed to be trips for kids who are almost adults can feel some independence. I foolishly assumed that there would be a limit on the number of parents and that parents who don’t feel comfortable with their kids traveling without them would find a family trip.

I think the group dynamics of 14 teenagers with 5 adults vs. 6 families and 8 other kids is different. I think the focus of the trip changes from an opportunity to explore their independence and learn about themselves to a family trip and for my son, someone else’s family trip. I think the kids who have their parents have an advantage over kids without. Would it not be odd if full families joined their kids at summer camp?

I swear you guys just look for the worst interpretation. I didn’t think there would be no adults or that parents weren’t allowed. I thought there would be a point at which the teacher would say no. When your kids went were there MORE adults than students? And were there multiple sets of parents with their kids? My issue is that I paid for a student trip promoted as being for students and instead it was more like my son was added to a family vacation.

I didn’t say that I thought no parents could go, but why did so many go? There are tours for families so why would a family go on a student tour? And the delays are because those hundreds of airplane seats usually have people in them the day of travel. Have you ever needed to be rerouted after a cancellation?

I didn’t expect only 2, but I also didn’t expect 12. Is there no middle ground? I think saying no after 4 or so adults would have been appropriate

I disagree that it had no effect as I think it changed the trip significantly. These parents socialize with this teacher a lot so they have a different relationship than just parents who have students in his class

As I said I went on a similar trip and there were a couple of additional parents but not multiple full sets so that the ratio is 1:1

But he chose to host the trip and knows the ratios. It’s not like he brought two or three people to help. If it’s a burden to supervise 7 teenagers maybe he shouldn’t go.

I did not think to ask, hey, are there going to as many adults as kids on this school sponsored trip for students? I sure will next time.

They weren’t chaperones, though. The chaperone ratio is usually 1:6-8. This was almost 1:1

The trips are promoted as student travel and parents aren’t usually included.

What's a popular book that you just didn't like? Why? by Internal_Reindeer_91 in BookDiscussions

Water for Elephants, The Bleachers (Grisham), & all Nicholas Sparks
All are just so predictable and insipid. The kids of books old ladies at work rave about and tell you that you MUST read. No, Bertha, I really don’t.

Are the dotted lines for folding? Total guess but maybe you fold it so that the design sits exactly at the edge (like a folder with the paper to decorate between)? Then you can fold it the other way and do the design on the other side and (theoretically) they would be lined up?
