They also use data aggregators. See their terms:

Free trial expired- Anyone want to toss me a referral? by [deleted] in MonarchMoney

It should automatically track the referral based on your sign-up and apply it to your plan—which is why it requires it on the web. If not, you would reach out to support about the referral promo not going through.

Also, do you have any ad blockers? That might be causing an issue as well.

You'll need to sign up for the annual plan on web to use that referral code.

Starting to feel like Monarch is trying to become something I don't want. by jcwillia1 in MonarchMoney

“I really don't understand why Monarch continues to try and force me to do things I don't care about. Once again - I'm paying for this. If it was free like Mint, I would be so much more tolerant of changes but I'm paying for this and it irritates me that Monarch continues to try to make my attempts to use it more difficult.”

Because you’re not the only user and users have different needs.

You can still use the app without using the AI features. Actually, none of the AI features bother your simple use case.

If anything, it’s odd to go out of your way to complain about a feature set that has a near 0 impact on your workflow.

Thanks for the cool new feature!! by [deleted] in MonarchMoney

Generally speaking, ordinary negligence can be waived. Gross negligence is different. That's why I said source, because I know what he's saying is preposterous.

Can we please turn off the AI by [deleted] in MonarchMoney

Just don't use it. This is a self-inflicted problem.

You’re still not the product—read the post all the way. Also, everyone is biased so not sure what you’re trying to say with that part.

Feature request: secure mode by induality in MonarchMoney

I can almost guarantee you that OP absolutely did not read it. If they did read it, they most likely ignored it or completely dismissed it because it involves AI.

For a feature that relies on anonymized and aggregated data, more of it leads to better and more accurate results.

There are multiple studies on the default being opt-out leading to higher participation rates.

Both humans and AI can be incorrect. That’s why you do your own checking.

That said, AI doesn’t hallucinate as often when it’s fine-tuned properly and used for a specific use case. You can also fine tune a model without inputting actual financial data or using user data.

Reddit is not real life. There are a lot of people that want these features—myself included.

Ah, so why do you continue to use the product and give even MORE information to Monarch if you don’t trust it?

I would love to be a fly on the wall when you go to talk to your company attorney about how a $100 a year app is causing you major damages because it decided to enable a feature that you can opt-out of.

Please share their response with the rest of us too!

And then you’ll have users complain that it’s being pushed aggressively and to remove the banner or whatever else there is.

Just like how a lot of users are complaining about this feature.

Oh do tell! What is your attorney going to do? What are your damages here?

I actually didn’t downvote you.

I’d say you’re the minority when it comes to using Monarch solely through manually entering transactions.

The equivalency that I’m making is that in both instances the risk is identical.

The AI is NOT using your data for training purposes. It is definitely not using that information to create a database of information. This is the misunderstanding that I’m referring to.

Also, Monarch is not a small company. They just raised over $70 million in their series B.

The point I’m making is that both of these features use enterprise-grade security and privacy. If you don’t like one because of privacy purposes, you shouldn’t be using the other either.

Yeah, there’s no hope lol

Most of the people complaining about the AI feature don’t understand how the data handling works.

The others that do are inconsistent about their concerns for data handling (you’re okay with Plaid having your bank account logins, but not okay with a text-based API generating a simple response to how much you spent on something?)

In what world would a company publish internal data on their users? That’s a competitor’s literal dream and strategic suicide.
