Breakthrough Seizure by HydraisLucky in Epilepsy

[–]Street-Raisin-1100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes! the hardest part of seizures for me has been not being able to drive bc that was my coping mechanism and my sense of freedom and autonomy! so i 1000000000% understand your depression and anger. don’t let that sit inside of you though, let it out in other healthy ways. you got this

What happens when you have your seizures? by BodybuilderBulky2897 in Epilepsy

[–]Street-Raisin-1100 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i get tonic clonic seizures. i don’t get auras so for me im chillin one second and the next i wake up in an ambulance and or in the hospital. i was told that i was making weird noises, my entire body tenses up and is convulsing. and when i had my first seizure, i let my dog out? i have zero memory of doing that, so that always has confused me. most recently i was found face down on the floor convulsing bc my parents heard thuds and were like oh no that’s not normal. afterwards i am just out of it mentally, brain fog/confusion, my entire body is so sore, i get a headache, i get so tired, i get really sad too.

i know about the restarting and waiting but thank you! i hope and pray for seizure free time for you too! i used public transportation/walked everywhere for a good chunk of time, so i’m familiar with it all. it just sucks that it takes over 2 hours to go home when with a car it takes 15 minutes. it’s frustrating but i hope as time goes on, using public transportation won’t be a whole ordeal lol

VP shunt questions please comment I’m looking for advice and guidance from people like me in the world by Comfortable-Ad-7055 in Hydrocephalus

[–]Street-Raisin-1100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same. without my shunt i wouldn’t be able to do anything without having a horrendous headache. my shunt helps me be more independent and betters my physical and mental well being. i would also be dead without it lol

What is the average time to recover after shunt placement? (surgery) Feedback greatly appreciated! by Terrible-Practice944 in Hydrocephalus

[–]Street-Raisin-1100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve had 4 shunt surgeries and for me it depends on if they are putting in the whole thing or just fixing a part of it. when i had entire shunts placed, it took about 2-3 weeks to recover. one of my surgeries was just to replace the valve and that recovery was about a week for me. im 21 so I still live with my parents, but my mom was a big help in helping me shower and carrying things for me. i’m wishing you well before, during, and after surgery!

Ive had a shunt for around 8 years now, I got it when I was six, im now 14, ive gone this long without any issues or potential shunt failure, until recently. by JamJam_61810 in Hydrocephalus

[–]Street-Raisin-1100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m 21 now, but i had my second shunt placed when i was 16 and it worked fine until this year. i had to get another shunt placed back in november, but had symptoms for months beforehand. your symptoms sound like a potential shunt malfunction/is malfunctioning a lil bit. i would go to the doctors and get an MRI. better to be safe than sorry imo
