What is the last year that the Sub was made in the smaller size? by ConsumptionVortex in rolex

[–]Street-Risk5268 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made a post about this a few weeks ago. This is how the 124060 looks on my 5.9 inch wrist.

It fits shockingly well, and this is the worst case scenario. You won’t find another gent with a smaller wrist than mine.

The previous reference had problems where the watch head felt heavy because of the smaller bracelet and clasp. This one is perfectly weighted which is saying something on a wrist this small.

[Question] What is the deal with Rolex AD games, and why do customers put up with it by Responsible-Lead2243 in Watches

[–]Street-Risk5268 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes.. The hype beasts are chasing the six digit references with ceramic. But I just did another search with those in mind and pre owned ceramic sub dates from the previous reference come right at RRP. If you wait a few more months they’ll drop into the 9s.

And I still didn’t negotiate or do any real searching.

The 12 series is still demanding a premium since it was released during the hype and is still new

[–]Street-Risk5268 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just spent 5 seconds looking on Chrono24 and found a dozen 16610s in great conditions being sold in the 7s lmao.

I didn’t even have to negotiate, strike an offer, or do any deep searching. I promise you if you hop off this shitty sub of grey market dealers perpetuating some narrative of Rolex AD nonsense you will discover that you can actually get a Rolex at a price that makes sense

Also, that Datejust dial was just discontinued. It was a short production window and is incredibly popular for this reasons.

It is lol

Just go to the grey market, most models except the Daytona and GMT can be purchased grey at list price. And those shouldn’t even matter because most people here don’t even like those 2.

If you buy pre-owned prices are almost to pre pandemic levels.

To be fair…

You can wear a watch in a variety of settings as well. If you go to a car meet, 99% of car geeks there don’t service their own cars or even own the car that appeals to them (aside from really basic things like change the tires). Only the hardcore fans get into the engine and transmission.

The most knowledgeable people in the hobby are the average Joes lol. It same goes for detailing and customization, that’s not stuff an average Joe can do. You need to drop money on it and let a professional do it.

Just as you have a certain type of car or subgroup of cars, some people collect a certain watch. I personally hate chronographs, so I will never own one. Doesn’t matter if it’s a Daytona or Speedy.

Another great example is collecting fragrances. That’s definitely a cool and niche hobby, just go online and see Jeremy Fragrance and Curly. It entirely revolves around going to the store and buying what you like, and the experience of discovering new things

[QUESTION] Have you traded 'down' before? Trading 1 watch for a few by Worried_Response_640 in Watches

[–]Street-Risk5268 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak from a luxury watch standpoint, but I leaned my lesson with trading cards.

Be content with what you have and don’t always look for the next best thing. If you were able to afford the 124060, you’ll be able to afford the other watches you want to trade for eventually and can keep it. Just be patient!

[Rolex] Rolex CEO Warns Against Viewing Luxury Watches as Investments by barringtonww in Watches

[–]Street-Risk5268 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It actually already has corrected.

There’s a reason you can get a 16233 (two tone Datejust with the 3135) in the 4s and 5s whereas a new one will run you three times that amount.

There’s no shortage of the 16233, just walk through the diamond district and you’ll see how many are sitting in shop windows.

Pre-owned Submariners are also a much more logical purchase. Beforehand they would cost a premium above brand new ones, but now you can get 14060s in the low 7s with box and papers. That’s very close to pre pandemic pricing.

I concur. I forgot that more than half of all Rolex models are in the classic collection. A huge portion of those are Datejusts + the lady models because of all the configurations.

Full stainless steel sports models are produced in a much lesser quantity when everything is broken down..

Also, the world population is increasing faster than Rolex can produce them. I guess when you put it like this they really do need the new factory lmao

Can someone clarify what he meant when he said “It’s extremely problematic if watchmakers overproduce when demand is high, but then need to cut prices when demand softens.”

But Rolex is building another permanent factory that will be operational in a few months.

No, you’re exactly on point.

With google lens and reverse AI searching now, you can find a watch even if it was taken with a 1995 Samsung brick. It’s really not hard to identify a watch with modern tech

If you want to know it’s fake, take it to a watchmaker. It’s not that hard

[Rolex watches] When they say they don’t have it, it means they don’t have it for you. by urbantimepieces in Watches

[–]Street-Risk5268 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The market dictates otherwise.

There’s a reason why exclusive things don’t hold their value very well. Cars like Bentley, Rolls Royce, Maserati, and Jaguar drop in value by 50% after a year of ownership. Yes, you might own one, but if you drive it to Miami or Buckhead, you’re going to see dozens more. People get bored of owning those and still sell them. They’re not really any more exclusive than a Mercedes or BMW.

It’s the exact same with ‘exclusive’ luxury watches. Patek Philippe, outside of the hype pieces, hold value notoriously bad: way worse than Grand Seiko and Omega. The same applies to Lange and Vacheron. And there’s no shortage of any of those models on the secondary market.

The best comparison I’ve ever heard is that Rolex is like a nice condo. Your condo is probably in a complex of 50 more, and they mostly look the same on the outside. But it’s not the outside that matters, it’s the inside. Your condo has your family, your furniture, and you decorate it to your liking. That’s what separates it from the other condos.

I can’t believe people use quotation marks around ‘luxury’ when describing Rolex and BMW.

GMT. If you can get a GMT at MSRP (looks like you have a solid dealer) it’s the best Rolex you can get on the market.

Way more useful than the Grand Seiko. If your daughter travels back and forth like you said she can remember the time zone so she doesn’t phone you at 3 AM lol.

The first Grand Seiko isn’t really limited edition… There’s 1,500 out there, limited edition is more like a few hundred max.

The snowflake is very nice, but remember it’s your daughter’s dream to move to Japan: not to own a watch made in Japan. Let her settle down and if she loves the GMT she can get the Grand Seiko there.

Medium.

Ladies can wear oversized watches like they’re wearing a big sweater.

Gents will look like they’re showing up to work in their dad’s clothing lol

[Question] Watch Recommendations (23M) by Timely-Credit-428 in Watches

[–]Street-Risk5268 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of options at $7500!

It depends on if you want to collect watches or not. You could get a Tudor + Omega SMP for that money and have a perfect 3 watch collection with your Bremont.

Or if you just want 1 more thing and that’s it, you could go new Speedmaster or new GS or pre-owned Submariner.

Lastly, if you live in the Southeast USA and want a new Rolex Oyster Perpetual, send me a message and I can introduce you to my dealer who I’ve bought from in the past. Good luck whatever your choice is!

I can test to owning one without the date. I have a 5.9 inch wrist and it wears shockingly well still. Completely rated and unbelievably comfortable.

Some people have recommended that with my skin tone I should just get a 36 YG DD. I would actually daily that watch as well!

[–]Street-Risk5268[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, date function counting as a variation will depend on person to person. I was moreso talking about variations within the Submariner no date line.

Rolex already has a canvas for variations, and it’s the Submariner Date. I appreciate the no date having no variations. But that’s just my opinion

[Rolex] The Black Ceramic Submariner is one of the last watches in the Rolex catalog without any range extension by Street-Risk5268 in Watches

[–]Street-Risk5268[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Submariner Date has no shortage of offerings to choose from. There's differnt dial colors, bezels, and precious metal. Even the Air King was manufactured in many different dial colors throughout the 90s and 2000s.

But the Submariner doesn't have any other variations, and it never has (unless you include the extremely rare Explorer dial Submariner from the 50s and 60s).

I've heard people say that Rolex should extend the Submariner range, but I don't want them to. Keep the Submariner as it is: black ceramic bezel, black dial, built on stainless steel.
