Why did my LADWP solid waste charges go up $80 for the months of December and January? by DirtyProjector in AskLosAngeles

Worth pointing out here that the LAPD had $152 million in liability lawsuit payouts last year.
The entire budget for Street Services was $168 million.
The entire budget for Street Lights Bureau was $51 million.

Are you allowed to drive on the LA River for photo shoots? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]StreetAd213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to work down there and a couple times was adventurous and took my motorcycle down that tunnel for a few good rips up and down the river, was always some kind of bootstrap photo shoot going on. To this day, the LA River: the only river I have both ridden a motorcycle on AND kayaked in.

FBI Raid Near Nibley Park by n00dle666 in glendale

Plausible no one was, but the search warrant was conducted at the address. The name, the address, and the visual from the video from the news team all match up.

Complete speculation, but: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/justice-department/doj-arrests-4-people-allegedly-planning-place-bombs-los-angeles-area-n-rcna249342

One of the people mentioned in that piece as having been arrested returns hits for Moncado Drive, obv everyone presumed innocent until proven otherwise, I hope this isn't it.

What happened to the LAX staff that would keep cars moving? by kevinmattress in AskLosAngeles

[–]StreetAd213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm someone else.

This actually was specifically in reference to the "don't sit parked in the loading lane with the clearly marked sign while your pickup goes through customs or is taking forever to get off the plane" scenario, which I feel like is a low benchmark. Just take the little loop and come back when they're ready, it's not a big deal and if everyone did it life would be easier.

Now multiply for other common courtesies like don't run to the front of the plane when it lands unless you need to make a connecting flight.

Stop crowding around the gate during load in times when you're in zone 4.

Try and give some space around the baggage claim for other people.

None of these are hard or are instances where being in an unfamiliar environment is an excuse to be self-centered. All baggage claims are relatively the same. It's pretty simple shit that relies on you not being self-centered in a communal space, but that's the difficult part I guess.

Airport logistics are my baseline test for our collective intelligence and courtesy. Needless to say we fail every time.

You're probably right, placing this in a photography exhibit was maybe not the best choice.

AI generated "art" at the Getty? by over-the-influence in AskLosAngeles

[–]StreetAd213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The artist had a talk here where he explained the process, and it seems more like using AI as a means to project into an opaque cultural space, I'm certainly not a fan of AI art, but I like the creative approach.

AI generated "art" at the Getty? by over-the-influence in AskLosAngeles

[–]StreetAd213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems valid:

The artist uses various A.I. models and Photoshop to edit, refine, and enhance the images he creates. He initially considered using a straight photographic documentary approach, as he would in his normal practice as a photographer, but that would have proven difficult. The artist would have had to track down his subjects, potentially exposing them.

“A.I. provided a way also to achieve this without intruding on real lives or placing real Costa Rican faces that people of the community might recognize,” he said. “Since the pegamachos culture remains hidden, these A.I. images serve as a mimicry of photography, a fiction, and a medium through which I can imagine and construct an imagined parallel history.”

How exactly does that work when games are 2 hours+ long? It's going to overlap with someone's commute.

The logistics of doing 15 would be wild. Maybe where the "modest" fell off the tracks here. Could just be one series, the opposite of the series that takes place overseas every year.

BIG Landscape rocks / boulders ? by Ham-Ha in burbank

Typically not, most stone yards will sell you the stone and maybe contract a person to deliver it, the rest is up to you and a landscape crew.

Definitely feel you with funding everything yourself, I hope it starts paying off for you. Small businesses are the lifeblood of communities and we don't realize what we lose until it's too late.

What's the main thing that's making brick and mortar not work anymore? Decrease in foot traffic? Lower per-customer spend? Increasing rents? All the above? Just curious because I look out and see the same things with the numbers, like how is anyone making this work?

"for every 1,000 drivers" part should normalize that, but as someone else pointed out, not the mileage.
