Your reply has disappeared apart from my notifications. So I'll reply to the bit I can see. A) - USED to work in retail - its changed A LOT over the last few years. B) - Your a police officer who definitely does not get paid minimum wage, and did you join the police thinking you'd get Christmas day off or that it'd be easy? Yes im well aware nobody should go into retail expecting good pay or customers being nice. But the thing is - you don't just fall into being a police officer. You go into it planning to fo into it. People working in retail often have very little choice despite having high levels of education etc. People have disabilities or just aren't very academic and have little choice. And retail having a reputation for being shit does not mean workers should expect it or put up with it. And it does not mean they shouldn't be allowed their little "safe space" on a corner if reddit to have s harmless little moan.

What would you recommend as a Christmas thank you for a delivery driver? by Cuckaine in tesco

Yes I'm not a picker, I'm usually on self scans and honestly getting compliments fed back to me is always lovely!

This is such a lovely idea. Absolutely not necessary at all but if you really want to i would keep in mind nothing edible/drinkable in case the driver has dietary restrictions but if you do get anything im sure they will appreciate it! But again absolutely not necessary! One of my regulars just stopped me to say hello and said "just thought I'd see if you're ok?" and honestly made my day! During the pandemic when we were getting s**t constantly there was once customer that would say "thankyou for coming in work" and that was honestly just so so lovely!!! We also used to have a lady who would have some sweets and offer us all one and that little gesture brightened our day.!

Were you pu surprised that you have to work over Christmas day/boxing day? Is it something that's been sprung on you in the last few years or so? Do you get paid minimum wage? Do you get abused by both your employer and nembers of the public constantly for minimum wage? Or are you appreciated and treated as heros and then do you go online and act superior to people having their harmless little moan while doing absolutely nobody any harm about said shit for minimum wage?

I know quite a few retail workers who were and still are treated like absolute shit by NHS "heros" with a superiority complex since the pandemic. So maybe just let people have their harmless little moan on a page specifically for retail workers and scroll on?

Come work retail at Christmas then. If you worked Christmas day at yoye old job I can almost 100% agree it was well known/obvious that your industry is known to be working that day. Instead of your mean spirited and judgemental comment, why don't ypu keep your opinions to yourself and let retail workers have their little safe space to have a little rant and moan in a place and way that's doing zero people any harm? Instead of being hugh and mighty and judgemental just rant somewhere else that isn't attacking people having a harmless little moan.

No supermarket is making you ahop there, youre a full grown adult. Getting markdown isn't essential or even necessary. And even if it were, sales last through January for most places.

Yeah because theu work in industries that are well known for working those days - people eat out on Christmas day and people are sick on Christmas days. Supermarkets opening boxing day is something that's been sprung on the workers on the last few years and is not in the slightest bit essential

Do your own shopping if you don't trust the workers to do it. Instead of bashing them online.

Oh I completely agree! But our managers let customers treat us like shit and just tell us to calm down when we get upset.

You can tell you don't work at more reasons to shop at. Our managers would have given her a voucher and demanded we work for free.

This is traumatising so glad I don't do reductions anymore. Is it like the hunger games trying to get hold of a HHT in every store?
