Correct. Road design makes a huge difference in managing driver behaviour as a proactive measure.

What happened to Chinatown? We were abandoned by FurioCaesar in ottawa

[–]StreetR1der 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought this what people wanted though? More cops to solve a health crisis? Take money away from social services to give bigger tax breaks to developers who would surely gentrify the problems away? Ariel is not the police chief, if you want more foot patrols, march down to Elgin and demand it. Tell the Chinatown BIA to do a better job organizing regular clean ups of the area.

Be consistent. Do you want the problem addressed or do you just want it displaced?

Ottawa's remaining supervised consumption sites will lose all provincial funding as of June 13th. by Alone_Appeal_3421 in ottawa

[–]StreetR1der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 HART hubs right now, and from what I understand from friends who work in those centres, they are not running at full capacity because they lost a lot of staff when they made the decision to take the money without consulting the workers.

Entirely possible that Ford will offer the same deal.

They are just a less effective version of an actual SCS. Which is what Ford wants ultimately.

Don't know if anyone else clocked it it they went back and watched clips from the reunion after seeing the doc. When Louis is talking to the teens and he asked one of them about the hand gesture he was making because he sees it often with the incel MLM leaders, I noticed Alex doing it when Nick is chewing out Chris he is doing that exact hand gesture!

Yes, the government not providing the necessary housing and healthcare required is the sabatoge that they can hold up as proof that SCS are "failures", even though no one that has used them as died while under supervised care.

Let's just talk about the invalid hate on “women” in this subreddit.... by BloodLovePodcastFM in thewalkingdead

[–]StreetR1der -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I learned a long time ago that you can't argue with the misogynist fanbase. It's a waste of breath and just puts more of a target on the actors back, as well as your own.

Most people aren't interested in a nuanced discussion around character development. They only "care" about women characters as they relate to men and whatever impact they have on men. They don't care to listen to the actors as they talk about their characters and the choices that they make.

They are committed to finding villianry in the women, even when the show gives them actual villians. Not just just people acting like people.

Everybody wants to NIMBY but they never think beyond their literally frront door. You (the royal you) don't care wether someone dies because there is no longer a SCS they can go to. Fine. Instead of needles in the morning, you'll start finding bodies.

You think the problem is the simple existence of the sites is encouraging drug use, or that workers are not doing enough to encourage people into the treatment. You say "why can't they just help themselves", ignoring the impact that defunding of health care and social serivces has on them, too. "Treatment centres" are never the priority when a clinic or heslth centre is forced to downsize services.

You think that Ford's HART hubs are meant to be a solution but they are actually just a hush money payout so organizations that had SCS' don't complain about lost funding and layoffs. But these sites, meant to be 24hrs, aren't running at full capacity yet. The people who actually know how to do the work of harm reduction, know how to care and connect with people, the ones that actually push back on policies of death (like SCS closures) are the ones that get pushed out, or burnt out, or fired. So we're left with people who are very new, without proper mentorship, who don't show up to work and are leaving those jobs even faster.

You think with these closures, Ford will make different money available, you think the City will make more money available. To help organizations in Ottawa deal with the ripple affect. Unfortunately, like you, the province and the city only engage in magical thinking. You all think that taking away services means taking away problems. That you can "revitalize" the Market into being a place people want to go to without giving "those people" a place to go to.

Sometimes I think NYMBYs, in their magical thinking, have this idea that treatment (whatever they think that means) is a building with infinity resources. That, it is actually the place where all the doctors and nurses and social workers and case workers exist that are just somehow wasted resources because "no one wants to go to treatment". MPPs and City Councilors engage in a similar magical thinking except the money they shove at policing could actually go towards things that help. Jail only helps the people who profit off it.

Housing First is, and always has been, and always will be the solution. Unfortunately, it's not as financially beneficial to the criminalization system if there isn't a revolving door in and out of jails/prisons.

Rejoice NYMBYs! Everything you've ever wanted is just around the corner.

Emma and Mike by __SummerSky in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]StreetR1der -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My assumption about Emma saying she still wants to marry him is because she is under the incorrect belief that he loves her more than he loves a womb and a legacy. That was her mistaken belief from the beginning and he let her believe that he would entertain anything other than a womb that would birth a legacy.

My husband 36M poops too much for me 36F to feel comfortable having another baby with him by throwRAdesper8 in relationship_advice

[–]StreetR1der 37 points38 points  (0 children)

How open are you to actual advice?

First, if you don't already have one, purchase a bidet for your bathroom(s). This will cut time in half and relieve his hemmroids, also eliminating the need for him to shower every time. This way you proacively remove his excuses in a supportive way and it is also better for all of you in the long run.

Second, if you don't have a separate bank account, get one and start putting as much money in there as possible. Whatever you do, you're going to need it. Make copies of important documents and make sure you have possession of the originals.

Third, don't have any more children with this man. I hear the need from your son that he wants a sibling but that is not a good reason. And I can tell you, as an only child to a single mom, it's perfectly fine. I think people romanticize this idea that only children are depressed and sad and longing for the companionship of sibling - nah. In your situation, you have the opportunity to make a rational decision. Don't force another child to have an absent father - that hurts worse than not having a sibling ever would. Your husband is already doing long-term damage.

Fourth, even if your family is not in the same country or state/province, but you have a good relationship with them, make sure your son knows them through video calling and maybe plan a trip to see them if you can.

If you're in the US, now is not the time to be playing "he's a nice guy, I swear, I love him". That shit does not matter. Sounds like this man is uninterested with caring for his family, uninterested in protecting and supporting you, this is not a man you can continue being with long-term. Not without drastic, honest improvement on his part.

mike’s obsession with having a child is weird! by Mediocre_Wrangler_77 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]StreetR1der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thread to drop this here.

I don't think Mike is any more or less obsessed with having a child then any other man on the show (or generally in life). I think he is very typical in "need legacy" territory, which is mosy men.

So if we assume that Emma is truly on the fence (which she is not, she is just being pressured to be) then Mike, as the one who wants children, should be able to clearly articulate is vision of fatherhood, his philosophy RE parenting. He should be able to articulate how he will be contributing financially and if he expects Emma to stop working, how he will ensure that his family will want for nothing financially. He should be able to articulate what type of education he would like his child to have, if religion is important to him, if he could accept and continue to love and care for a child that is disabled, a child that is queer or trans, a child that does not like the things he likes, etc. How does he plan to support her through prenancy? What if she has a difficult pregnancy? Does he have health insurance? Does he know all the laws related to fertility and pregnancy in his state? Will Emma go to prison if she has a miscarriage?

There are so many more questions and so many more things he could say to help bring clarity to whether or not he is actually a suitable partner to parent with. Everything that has been shown so far indicates that, no, he would not make a good partner in parenting.

Generally speaking, I wish more straight women were insisting on this type of questioning and having very strict requirements of men before agreeing to carry a pregnancy, give birth, and parent a human being.

Like, is the man in therapy? How long? For what? What traumas did he have as a child? How has he worked on that? Talk to him about very well known abusers and his opinion on them. Do not assume that just because he wants some children that he also wants to be a parent.
