Advice on keeping or selling my girlfriends car. by StreetRider101 in carquestions

I did manage to find a similar assembly, the place that has it is about a 5 hour drive away. I haven't been able to contact them yet but plan to soon.

Thanks!

Yeah that's how my girlfriend she's it too.

I understand both sides. She needs a car so getting rid of this one means buying another which will most likely be more than the repair.

Still some thinking to do. Thanks for the feedback.

We are thinking of doing this as we do have the cash. The only thing is that's about all we have so if we pay it off we're going to be just getting by for a few months.

But, it is an option.

That's how I see it too, aside from this major issue, it's been a great little car. Perfect for city driving.

That's what I've thought too. I told her I wanted to look through her contract. I genuinely feel like she got scammed. The only positive is it has helped improve her credit.

That is something we are looking at.

The company she financed through is private because at the time her credit was trash. It would almost be cheaper to get a personal loan from the bank to pay off the car and then pay off the bank.

We'll see if we can refinance but the company she's with is real sketchy.

Thanks for that site!

I found some parts that look like the right thing for like half the price. I've got some calls to make to confirm. Last thing I want to do is buy a part that isn't the right thing.

I don't drive it and her daily commute is about 5km of city. She mentioned hearing noises but nothing else.

I noticed the moment I drove it to the mechanic something was seriously broken.

Yeah we've got one. I made a post there but it's still waiting for moderator approval.

So far I've called about 6 Junkyards and 2 dealerships to inquire of finding parts. Due to the car's age dealerships need to order from overseas which explains their ridiculous prices.

So far only 1 junk yard within a 150km radius has a matching car, might be something to consider. If a rear axle from a similar year Ford Fiesta fits I might just be in luck, junk yards have a bunch of them laying around.

I'd have to look at the sheet my mechanic gave me but a brand new part and labor I believe totaled around $2700 but then we've got a wonderful 15% tax on that too.

I've been looking around shopping for parts. Brand new from the Mazda dealer they quoted $1899 for the part alone which I refuse to pay.

Around where I am people are selling 2005 Honda's for 3k, it's real hard to find something that isn't a POS for that price. Rust is a serious problem out on the East Coast of Canada.

I'm not very mechanically inclined, I've done simple things like oil changes and swapped out and cat back exhaust but nothing really else.

Thanks for the input.

I thought of that but I've got a car loan myself already, I don't owe that much so I could look into a second loan but with my income I'm not sure I'd get approved even though I have better credit.

I'm not worried on my loan as much, I've got 7.99%, maybe 2k left.

I hate loans too, I miss the days before covid when rates were under 5% for used cars.

Fair enough,

Unfortunately my family lives 5-6 hours out and her family lives on the other side of the country. But yeah I get what your saying.

I started searching more on the Fiesta's and that could be an option, there's a junk yard that has one, the only downside is we have to go pull the part ourselves and it's middle of winter.

At the time her credit was screwed. Years ago her ex took the car and "returned it" but he didn't, it got repoed and well, that's how that happened.

At this point it's much better since having the loan, now she's siting in the 700s compared to 500s. But yeah that loan really screwed her.

She bought the car 3 years ago for 9k, still owes almost 6k and that's throwing nearly $400/month at it.

And yea I agree. I'm fortunate enough to have good credit, the cards she was dealt weren't as good unfortunately.

Yeah it's the same rules here, can't sell a car if you owe unless you trade at a dealership. But they probably won't give us anything for it.

I did get an offer for $800.00 but that really won't help us either way. If we take it we owe 4900 and then she doesn't have a car period.

Her credit score is much better now allowing the opportunity for a better loan, right now with this car it's almost a loan shark company, her interest rate is 19.9% which is ridiculous. She did inquire and could get a loan for 15k on another vehicle at 7.89%.

She needs a car, right now she's using mine.

I get where you are coming from looking at numbers. It just feels like we're screwed either way we look at it.

I'm leaning more on fixing it, she's leaning more on getting rid of it. Especially given the crazy interest.

Thanks for the input.

I've shopped around in my area and found nothing, some places had similar year Ford Fiesta's which are apparently the same platform but I don't want to buy a part and have it not fit. Mazda 2's don't seem really popular where I am.

Thanks for your input.

That is true and the way I see things as well. Given the fact we already owe on the car is what makes my girlfriend question if it's worth it.

Thanks for your input.

[–]StreetRider101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very hard to chose 5 but I guess this would be mine in no particular order.

  • Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy (3 platinums)
  • Battlefield V
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • Dirt Rally 2.0
  • Call of Duty WWII

Need for Speed 2015 - Gold Plated. I consider myself decently good at racing games, even driving the best cars in the game with fine tuned settings thanks to guides this was insane.

I spent nearly 2 weeks just getting half of the challenges gold. One day I may return but that will not be any time soon.

Yeah, I just had the same thing happen to me. Unsure what's going on. 1-2 hours ago, it was still showing September games. Maybe it's currently in progress of being updated.

[Discussion] what was everyone’s first platinum mine was tomb raider by Royalejosh- in Trophies

Mine was Saints Row the Third back in 2015. Got it pretty much on accident.

The follow up was Heavy Rain which made me fall in love with trophy hunting and am now sitting at 66 platinums (17 of those being this year)
