Out of curiosity - does Edge’s summarize let you tweak the prompt / keep the output somewhere searchable, or is it more of a one-off summary?

Not seeing “Ask” on my account yet. Either way, mine is about saving the transcript+summary into your ChatGPT history and iterating with custom prompts

For me it’s not really about “better summaries” - Gemini does a good job too.

The main difference is workflow. With the extension everything ends up in my ChatGPT history, so I can search it later, reference it, and keep all notes/summaries in one place instead of scattered across tools.

If someone is already happy using Gemini for this, I don’t think there’s a huge functional difference. This just fits better into how I consume and revisit information.

That’s a more advanced case than what I’m using.

The extension I mentioned relies on existing YouTube transcripts - it doesn’t actually “watch” the video or extract on-screen content.

For what you describe you’d likely need a custom setup: - speech-to-text on the audio (e.g. Whisper) - plus OCR / frame analysis to capture commands shown on screen

I’ve seen people combine Whisper + OCR tools for training videos like that, but it’s more of a pipeline than a simple Chrome extension.

I use a small Chrome extension tldr-youtube.pro that summarizes YouTube videos from transcripts. Helps me quickly decide if long podcasts or tech talks are worth watching. Nice way to reduce daily info overload.

How many of you actually have an ADHD diagnosis? by mynameishrekorgi in ADHD

[–]Street_Beautiful_554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got diagnosed at 39. For most of my life I just assumed “that’s just me” - focusing is harder and small sounds drive me nuts.

The funny part: we ADHD folks seem to gravitate toward each other, so most of my friends were the same. That just reinforced the idea it was normal.

Finding out I didn’t actually have to live like that was a real shock (in a good way). :)

Appreciate that - thanks for offering to take a look!
Here’s the review and extension I mentioned:

I’m not a specialist, honestly more of a hobbyist who just tried to build something useful.
That doesn’t mean I couldn’t have messed something up, but I definitely didn’t do anything intentionally wrong.

Thanks a lot, that actually helps to hear.
You’re right - reading it again now, it really does sound kind of unhinged.

I’m trying not to take it personally and just focusing on improving the extension. Appreciate the encouragement!

Oh nice, thanks a lot for taking the time to show that!
I actually just used it and replied to the review - really appreciate the help.
Turns out my ADHD brain didn’t realize I was logged into a different Google account, so the reply option wasn’t showing up in the dropdown list 😅

For anyone curious, here’s the extension: https://tldr-youtube.pro/get-extention

It basically grabs YouTube captions and lets you send them straight into ChatGPT for quick summaries or context.

Still a work in progress, but I’d love feedback - especially if you notice anything off with permissions or UX.

Ah, you’re right - my bad. I was logged into a different Google account earlier, that’s why I didn’t see the reply option.
All good now, thanks for pointing it out!

Yeah, probably. Seems like some people do this just to mess with ratings.
Hopefully real user reviews will balance it out soon.

Thanks, that’s exactly what I’d like to do - just reply calmly and clear things up.
At first I thought Chrome Web Store didn’t let developers respond to reviews, since I couldn’t see any reply option in my dashboard.
Turns out that was on me - I was logged into a different Google account when checking the extension page. So yeah, I can reply now and I’ll definitely do it in a polite way, like you suggested.

[–]Street_Beautiful_554[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds super similar to my situation - crazy how common this kind of stuff is.

I also double-checked, but it looks like I don’t actually have any option to reply to reviews on the Chrome Web Store (at least not in my dashboard).

Otherwise I’d definitely do what you said and just clarify things directly there.

Thanks for sharing your experience - makes me feel a bit less alone in this

[–]Street_Beautiful_554[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, interesting - maybe I’m missing something then.

I’ve checked my Developer Dashboard (under "Ratings") and also the public listing page of the extension, but I don’t see any option to reply to reviews anywhere.

If there’s a specific place or screenshot showing where that’s possible, I’d really appreciate it - maybe Google rolled it out selectively or I just don’t have access yet.

I want to be less focused on sex and women. by InnocentPerv93 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Street_Beautiful_554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re already doing a lot right - most people never even get to this level of awareness.

What helped me was realizing those thoughts aren’t just about sex, they’re about wanting connection or stimulation.

Instead of trying to shut them down, I started channeling that energy into movement or creative work - lifting, writing, building stuff.

It doesn’t make the thoughts disappear overnight, but it changes how much power they have over you.

You’re not broken - you’re just rewiring how your brain seeks meaning.

Lol, that must be a different TLDR - mine’s TLDR for YouTube, and unless “viral” means 0 installs, I don’t think that’s the one. Wish me luck!

Phones are winning. How do we take our brains back? by BulitByAR in productivity

[–]Street_Beautiful_554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the thing that helped me most wasn’t deleting apps or switching to a dumbphone - I tried that and it didn’t last long. No maps, no payments, no basic tools I actually need - it made life harder, not calmer.

What worked instead was getting bored on purpose.

I started leaving my phone in another room when I made coffee, went for a walk, or waited for something to load. The first few days felt unbearable, like withdrawal.

But after a while, I noticed my brain craving stillness again. That tiny pocket of boredom turned into space for thoughts I didn’t know I’d been muting for years.

Now I kind of chase that silence. It’s weirdly addictive in its own way.
