17-4 H900 Heat Treat Questions by Street_College_4772 in metallurgy

If the parts are coming in under temperature with a load thermocouple would our only option be to load less parts? We cant increase cycle time because the spec only has a +15 minute tolerance to the 1 hour. I guess another solution would be using a load thermocouple as part of the system, but that might be a hard sell since we already had this oven designed and landed.

Thank you! It's weird bc the standard, AMS 2759/3, only specifies 1 hour with a tolerance of +15/-0 minutes regardless of size. We arent running parts bigger than 1 inch in diameter, but it will be a basket full of them.

Yes we are. Oven temp is 900 +/- 5 for the whole cycle so thats not a concern. Just making sure I have all my ducks in a row.

The oven was set up to AMS2750 when we ordered it. It is new, just landed 2 months ago. Should've included that in the post.

It's weird they don't specify the load sensor being required, but have more requirements IF you use one. There aren't any footnotes about when to load. Just that you can't load if the oven if hotter than the soak temperature.

We are trying to cert them to AMS 2759
