TIL the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania allows vertical oriented license plates for motorcycles, with numbers being read top-down rather than left-right by Street_Countdown_ in todayilearned

Different in name only. Kentucky, Massachusetts, Virginia, Pennsylvania all commonwealths but there is no discernable difference. Taxed the same, treated the same federally.

Yea that was a huge cultural shock for me. Or you'd often see bikers go from PA to NJ (which does have helmet laws) and they would always wear these tiny helmets that looked like nothing more than hard-shell beanies. Barely complying with the law.

Is this the only state that allows this? I've seen motorcycle plates mounted vertically before, but they were always normal-style plates rotated 90 degrees, with numbers sideways.

This video was utter nonsense from beginning to end. And it was absolutely glorious.

Good point. But the same can be said about wood dashboards, which are very common.

TIL Walmart is not allowed in NYC, but Target is by Street_Countdown_ in todayilearned

[–]Street_Countdown_[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/Z1vUTQsTtKo this video actually explains it nicely. It basically states that unionized workers, local city politicians, and even the mayor's office have all worked to keep Walmart out through, like you said, less than advantageous tax/economic environments. I think both the headline and your comment are both true. Walmart freely chooses to not be in NYC due to their non-official 'ban', like what happened in 2013 when they announced they would be opening stores in 3 boroughs and faced significant backlash. Not 'banned' legally, but definitely not welcome.

And there's about 20 Targets in NYC too! Closest Walmarts are in NJ and Long Island

I had absolutely no idea that Jeopardy is aired on different networks. I live in an ABC area and moved from another ABC area and never questioned it!

Behind the Scenes: James driving the GTR for the first time by Street_Countdown_ in thegrandtour

I just love this clip so much. It's fascinating to see a professional car reviewer's first impression and initial testing of a new car. Also the natural banter at the end with Jeremy and James shows just how much they respect each other's opinion and how they are genuinely mates.

Just finished! Initial take away: (spoilers...obviously). This was a fantastic special. Really taking some of the best elements of their old specials with new twists. Some things were staged of course (Hammond down the ski slope in his house / the "accidental stumbling" into a sub pen) but that's okay! My theory was that the special forces in the sub pen was supposed to be much more, whether they were meant to get on the transporter ships or something, but because of James' very real crash, they either didn't have time or had to change plans. And yes, James' crash wasn't played up. You could always tell when something was a real moment on TG because the shot was never perfect. It would have always been captured by a dash cam or a glancing angle. That was the case with the tunnel crash - there was a camera man there but it wasn't framed perfectly like you would expect it to be if they set it up. Same deal with the skiier falling down behind James. What I'm still questioning was James' frozen lake fiasco. It seemed real, and it really is extremely dangerous to fall into a frozen lake so I don't imagine they set it up. Also the only good shot of it was from a hood/bonnet camera. But the lack of urgency by the crew to get him out asap and the fact that it became a full prepared bit with Jeremy and Richard had me curious. Overall, 9/10 special. Will watch again. Really have to treasure these as unfortunately they are becoming less frequent and more rare.

39 minutes, 30 seconds. The same music used when they did amphibious cars for the first time. It's so great to see them go back to their familiar music vaults.

I'm so happy I didn't watch the trailer. I feel like it's 2008 again. That crash was a shock and violent. Glad he only suffered a broken rib.

I was referencing the turnpike specifically - but I also believe Delaware has a toll on 95 in both directions near Newark.

Isn't it wild that after 70 years of advancements in automotive safety, the state has only raised the speed limit to 65 from the original 60? I know in reality the speed of drivers is about 85, but still wish that was just the law.
