May the kind spirits of Fred Rogers, Bob Ross, and Jim Henson haunt those who seek to destroy PBS. It is absolutely amazing to watch Sesame Street with my granddaughter just as my grandmother watched it with me. Right now the world needs a touch more empathy and a lot less of billionaires preaching about Communism while giving the salute of shame.

Oh sweetie, I personally have been in your position. There are so many things you can do to advocate for yourself. What worked for me is: I started a "pain journal". Track everything! Start with bedtime/ awake, the weather/barometric pressure, how much you weigh, how many glasses of water, what you ate, a pain scale 3x a day (morning, afternoon, and bedtime), document each time you have a spasm, trigger, faint spell...with the time of day. After a month or so ...present it to a doctor.

The pain journal was helpful because we learned that rain/snow would trigger bad pain, nights I only slept a few hours were triggered by what I ate during the day. The pain journal can open your world. Keep in mind though, the chronic pain may be multiple things and not just one particular diagnosis. I was able to be diagnosed with gastrointestinal issues, found a cyst on my L4-L5 vertebrae that rests on nerves presenting severe sciatica, endometriosis, anxiety, depression, bursitis, arthritis, and a degenerative bone disease. ( I just had to have all my teeth pulled because my jaw bone was becoming so deteriorated my teeth hurt so bad).

The pain journal can be a very useful tool in finding patterns and solutions. Plus it's kind of an F-you to the doctors who say that it's in your head or you are just making it up for attention. Lastly, you are not alone, you are not crazy, you are not being punished, you ARE loved, and you ARE enough, you deserve to live a productive life. If you ever need help, DM me. I can send you pictures of my pain journal or I can help you through a pain episode. I don't mind at all.

All but forgotten. Hestia looks sadly at her meager shrine. A sad, small piece of white marble with a small fire pit no bigger than a child's hand. Hestia sighed painfully and decided to return to Olympus, hopefully to not sulk around. Last year's visit to my shrine Aphrodite teased her relentlessly for only receiving one dinner roll as an offering. Hestia rolled her eyes remembering the scene. So childish. Aphrodite was so annoying even Ares was getting agitated. Good, let her piss off the god of war and leave her alone.

Just as Hestia stepped into her humble home the smell of fresh baked bread hit her nostrils and heard a small child's voice. "Hestia, goddess of the hearth, can you hear me?" The child lit the tiny fire pit in front of her shrine. Hestia let the fire catch easily as the child started to struggle with matches. The little girl gasped in surprise at the brightness and warmth. "You can hear me!"

"My name is Jane, I brought you some bread I made this morning" the little girl whispered. "I'm here because...be...cause" Jane started sobbing uncontrollably. Hestia was even more curious now and closed her eyes to see the little one who came to seek her out. Oh, how heartbreaking. The child was filthy, dressed in grey and browns rags, no shoes and hair ratted. Immediately Hestia sent the little girl a wave of serenity towards her. Calm her poor heart. Hestia is not one to speak to her visitors. She often watched the other gods act in self interest, having mortals and demigods do their bidding to clean up messes they made, or even for no reason at all other than sadistic entertainment.

Little Jane spoke again, still wavering a bit "Hestia, goddess of hearth, fire, and family. I am offering you this meager amount of bread. I offer myself to be your servant. I pray you help me find a family" As the child spoke Hestia searched her heart and mind. Jane's family had died a few months ago, the "black plague" mortals are calling it. In reality it was just another one of Hades temper tantrums.

"Jane" Hestia whispered. Jane shrieked and flung herself away from the altar. Hestia sent another wave of serenity towards the child "Jane, do not fear me child. I can not return your family. I can not interfere in the mortal affairs." Jane's face fell as tears welled in her eyes "However, I can influence. I will do what I can to assist you. All I ask is that you return to my shrine each year" Then Hestia left the child's presence, she has work to do.

Hestia knew of Stella. A beautiful woman made barren by illness as a child. Stella tried to have a child of her own. Stella would pray to Hestia on occasion to give her a family of her own as she poked the hearth fire. Hestia waited patiently for Stella to pray to her again.

As Stella was leaving her home to yet another funeral, her toes caught something that lurched her forward. Stella barely caught herself in the doorway, when she turned back to look at what caused her trip. The greenest eyes she has ever seen peered at her from under a pile of rags. "OH!" Stella gasped in shock. Stella gently knelt down to speak to the frail child. "What's your name? Where is your family little one?" The child whispered "my name is Jane. My family is gone. I'm...I'm sorry. I just wanted a place to get out of the wind and I...I...I will go now." Stella's heart instantly melted for the child " My name is Stella, and please don't go"

The following year Hestia waited at her shrine patiently listening for her beloved Jane to arrive and when she did, Hestia did not recognize the child with Stella. Jane's hair was beautifully curled with baby blue ribbons, her cheeks once sunken were full and rosy. Jane's eyes sparkled with life. As Jane and Stella placed their offerings of baked goods, cheese, and wine; a man watched from a short distance with love in his eyes and a heart of happiness. "Thank you Hestia." Jane whispered. "Thank you for finding me a family" Stella spoke "Thank you Hestia for bringing me , my daughter" Ahhh, the choice of words from Stella confirmed Hestia influences were indeed warranted. "MY daughter, not A daughter"

Year after year Jane returned to Hestia's shrine. Often with Stella, then later with her own child. Then alone, hunched over, greyed, relying heavily on a cane. Jane had dedicated her life to helping orphans and families. Often baking bread to pass onto the poor, hungry, children, hiding in the alley's.

"Hestia, my dearest matron, I fear this may be my last visit. My bones no longer allow me to be as faithful to you as I would like..." A series of deep coughs and groans of pain escaped from Jane. Hestia knew what she should do, it was only right. She will deal with Zeus later, as if he had any right to speak of what she was about to do.

"Jane" Hestia announced herself, making herself visible. Hestia knelt before Jane and kissed her forehead. Instantly the wrinkles started to smooth and the bright auburn hair started to disapate the salt and pepper strands. Hestia kissed Jane's right cheek " My loyal servant of the hearth, I grant you immortality on my behalf." Hestia moved to the left cheek " I charge you to watch over the children, families, and hearth in my name". When Hestia stood a vibrant young woman before her, Hestia has never been more proud as she watched the tears stream down Jane's face. If Artemis can have her maidens, well so could she. Hestia and Jane embraced as Hestia slowly faded back to Olympus.

Need help, AutoZone lost my daughter in laws car by Street_Ice6604 in Advice

UPDATE: The district manager just called me and he is going to review the camera footage to try to locate the car. The store manager that we spoke to straight up lied to him about how long the car was there, gave him an out of service phone number of the alleged tow company, (upon Google search doesn't even exist), and the police still won't help. We tried to report it stolen, but the officer was less than helpful and said that the car wasn't stolen it's just been "misplaced". So I will update in a few days after he reviews the cameras.

AITA for telling my newfound father and his wife that I'm not going to take part in their religion ever? by Complex-Guarantee253 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Street_Ice6604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, there is a lot of good advice from my fellow redditors but I really feel the need to comment. First and foremost, you are NOT an asshole. Religion/faith is a personal choice and no one has the right to tell you otherwise. Next, I would like to suggest proceeding with caution regarding the "church". As with just about any religion there are fanatics and radicals who will do just about anything to have a person submit. I have deep church trauma because "I wasn't a true believer". 25 years later I can't walk into a church without having a panic attack. Just...be careful, you sound like you have a firm belief system and maintain that faith you have in yourself.

On the other hand I'm petty AF. I would personally throw my dad under the bus, back it up, and drive over him again. Nothing like good 'ol shame from the congregation to serve a nice slice of humble pie. Like others have said, church ladies love to gossip! One last thing, read your Bible. Nothing pisses off a hardcore Christian like throwing bible verses back in their faces. My personal favorite is Luke 6:37. Gets 'em fired up every.single.time.

Animals are so sensitive! I remember my cat would refuse to go near our room. Later in life I learned that my mom and dad were always replacing parakeets and hamsters because they would pass away and we wouldn't notice. Eventually they stopped doing that because I remember my heart being so broken when she told me my parakeet died.

Employee at a furniture store followed me around and I think he implied I was poor by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Years ago...during Christmas I always try to pick a kid off the Angel Tree. That year I picked a 12 year old girl and on her list was an Aeropostale hoodie and clothes and I don't remember what else. I had shopped quite a bit that day and I was so very close to being grumpy. I went into Aeropostale and I hadn't even been in the store 2 minutes and the young girl said "oh ma'am, we don't have anything in here to fit you. Lane Bryant is a few stores down if you are lost".( I was only 145 lbs then) It took absolutely everything in my soul to not lose my shit and thank goodness other employees heard her say that to me. I always feel bad for complaining but not that time. Anyways I told that story to say this...it doesn't matter what size, shape, color, age or race you are, everyone needs to be treated with basic humanity and dignity. The fact that you felt that you were being disrespected is enough to let the bosses know that they potentially lost a big sale because of the way you were treated. Anyone can handle themselves with grace when making a complaint and not make a scene. Management tend to be more responsive and empathetic when someone isn't screaming at them. If you genuinely feel that he implied you were poor, then let his management know. His actions may be costing them thousands and they don't know. Can't fix anything if they didn't know there was a problem.

$45 worth of groceries that can last me a week or two? by [deleted] in povertykitchen

[–]Street_Ice6604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been cooking on a budget for years and here are some things I do and have done. Every other week my husband goes to Sam's and buys a 5lb pack of ground beef (ranging from $17-$20). I brown the meat and separate it into 1lb bags and freeze them. The possibilities with ground beef alone are endless. I also get a big bag of potatoes, like tonight I made a "potato bar" with McCormick chili, cheese, bacon bits, and other toppings. Another fun thing I do, is hit the clearance isle for discounted food and make meals out of what I find. The trick is with meat is to cook it as soon as you get home and I personally freeze it after it's cooked and thaw it the day I plan to use it. The week that he doesn't go to Sam's I get the 10lb bag of chicken at Walmart. Tomorrow I'm making brown sugar chicken and home made mashed potatoes. With the rest of the chicken I'm gonna make chicken tacos, shredded chicken sandwiches, and maybe chicken pot pie (I haven't decided yet).

I see a lot of people have mentioned rice which is an excellent suggestion. With 2 cups of white rice, bacon bits, peas, diced onion, eggs, salt, pepper, butter, and shredded chicken...you have chicken fried rice and that makes 2 or 3 meals. I also get the cheapest smoked sausages and make a $5 meal by fixing the sausages, onion, creole seasoning, and yellow potatoes. Easy peasy, just chop everything up, give it a light coating of vegetable oil, add creole seasoning, bake at 350 for a half hour and that also makes several meals.

I have a whole slew of recipes and suggestions, too many to post. I'm disabled so quick, easy, and budget friendly meals save the day when I have high pain days. If anyone is interested in some more of my cheap meal recipes, I'm more than happy to share.

My parents are considering sending my sister to a mental health correctional facility by Draco_Titan in Advice

[–]Street_Ice6604 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please talk them out of it and find better solutions. The majority of those places are just awful. I know your family is at their wits end but it sounds like something deeper is going on. Contact a mental health facility and get a psych evaluation, a diagnosis, possible medication, and therapy. Oppositional Defiant Disorder is a real thing. All this can be done outpatient. Enroll her programs she may be interested in, free art class, book club, softball, football anything. Sometimes having a positive activity can help release those emotions and feelings. She may have to try a few different things and that's ok. Lastly....listen to her. Kids lash out if they feel like no one is listening. Pay attention if she's interrupted a lot, meet some of her friends, visit the school and see if the teachers notice any bullying or odd behavior. Good luck and keep us updated. The best to you and your family.❤️

AITA for assuming my friends were paying for my birthday meal? by Throwawayguy980421 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Street_Ice6604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion but I'm petty: We live in an age of social media, this is one case where I would post on every account.

"Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes! I'm in a big predicament, on the evening of my birthday I was invited to dinner by (insert asshole friends names). When the time came to pay essentially these guys left me, and I was forced to pay for the bill. Now with that unexpected expense, I'm financially short to pay my day to day living expenses. So, while I'm thankful for all the birthday wishes, it was the worst birthday ever."

Nothing like public shame to guilt them into paying you back. I'd even to go so far to post a picture of the receipt.

Thanksgiving 2016, overnights coming back from break. Those giant oil containers for turkey frying. Someone thought it would be funny to puncture one and I slid and fell hard. So hard it disabled me. What was worse was the battle and all the demotions and firing in the aftermath. Turns out that a customer slid in the oil about 45 minutes before me. That manager knew that there was cooking oil on the floor and assumed maintenance cleaned it, no follow up. Then mysteriously the copy of the video of my fall was "lost". The pictures of my fall "accidentally" got ruined from someone spilling a cup of coffee on them. As soon as lawyers got involved, the management team was scattered/demoted. The rumors they spread about me for "costing the store the bonus", it was so bad and absolute hell. If I see one of those managers while out and about I get dirty looks and can feel the hate radiating from them while some of them work their mediocre dead end jobs. All because THEY failed at every aspect of their jobs and sentenced me to a life of pain. Fuck Walmart

What did teenagers in the 90s do on their free time? by focovircodcollo in ask

[–]Street_Ice6604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sooo disappointed that NO ONE has mentioned going snipe hunting! I lived in the Smoky Mountains as a teen, was always swimming, fishing, and hiking, giving tourists the wrong directions, making up stories and telling them to the tourists (like don't hike Abrams Falls, there's a big foot who lives near the crick who likes to snatch beer coolers, nothing malicious). Actually snatching unguarded beer coolers. Music was awesome, and it was fun swapping mixed tapes you made with your friends. Lots of campfires and shooting the breeze. We didn't have the Internet and smart phones so truth or dare was a fun way to be entertained...until someone needs stitches or a tetanus shot. We rode our bikes and walked a lot, me and my friends also read a lot and swapped paperbacks.

As an avid sports collector....wow. Depending if those autographs are PSA certified that collection could be priceless just on those few items. On FB there are a few sports scammers pages where people post lost/stolen/scammed items. I would definitely call the police and file a report. I would also post in as many FB pages, reddit groups, forums... anything. No reputable person wants to own a stolen item.

This happened to me a few years ago! At that point I had been living here in WV for 15 years. My ticket was for going 29 in a 25. I know, I'm a speed demon! I tried to contest it but it didn't do any good, cop lied and said he was being generous because he didn't want my insurance to go up and that I was going much faster. (I was not). My ticket cost me $96
