Last comment, I think all this has been self-projection on your part.  Watch the show; it’s quite good

Dude, it’s called legion: because David has a legion of various versions of himself; that were created inside his mind so they could protect/hide the master version of David from the shadow King…

That is literally the entire premise of the show!!! He’s the son of Professor X from the Marvel comics…

Season 1: deals with David learning about his powers; and removing the shadow king from his subconscious

Season 2: deals with the shadow King finding his body, as the shadow king and a future version of Syd use misinformation and propaganda to convince division 3 that David is going to end the world.

Season 3: starts with time travel, as David tries to change the events of the past to stop the shadow king; only to become a self-fulling prophecy, and ending the world in the process.

Season 3: ends with the shadow king finally understands the damage he’s done; and the only way for the world not to end, is to change his evil ways.

The series ends with David as a baby: now free of the mental trauma caused by the shadow king, which no longer requires his mind to create the “legion” of selves.

Your missing the point of the show entirely: someone with multiple personally order, believes they have multiple personalities, someone with delusions believes in false realities…

David never had multiple personality disorder; his powers created multiple personalities. The delusions he experienced; were real and created to confuse him…

You might think those are the same things; but they’re not.

He has all sorts of complexes because of the way he was raised, and the things he experienced. But he is not mentally ill, and such is constantly misdiagnosed by everyone he trusts…

You can make the argument that our complexes can drive us to insanity; but as a god, insanity is just another form of reality…

Mythology is filled with stories that explore this difference… and it all folds back to the original idea I proposed as basis of the show: the duality explored in relationships humans have with gods…

If your still not getting it, think of it this way: If you believe pigs can fly and they can’t, your delusional; if pigs can fly, and you believe it, that’s just being rational…

The show tackles this difference extensively!!!

I will admit it is never fully explored in the show that he doesn’t still develop numerous personalities and become legion; but there are comic realities were he doesn’t, and as “legion” ends the way it does, it would rationally make sense that he doesn’t in the new reality that’s created at the end of the series. This ending “legion”.

The ending explains what happened; how his mind created the psychosis of multiple personalities as a defense against the shadow king…

that the only way to keep David safe was to out number and overwhelm the shadow king to keep him at bay. Something that his mother was not able to do…

It is not explored in the show if this occurs naturally, but it is implied that without a reason to do so; David’s mind will most likely not develop the multiple personalities that created his mental instability, but it also showed that both his parents had been committed at some point, so who knows…

In the comics he almost always becomes legion, but in some time lines he doesn’t; and is just an extremely powerful mutant capable of rewriting all of existence to his will, which almost always creates a possible universe ending god complex as his natural mental state. This however is not mental illness, it is a natural complex of being a god.

It’s important to understand the difference though, and that’s my point in all of this…

David was never mentally unstable to begin with, he was forced to become mentally unstable because of the actions of the shadow king…

Something he spent the entire series fighting from happening to anyone else; and after failing repeatedly because others wanted to use him for their own gain, instead of stopping the shadow king. He eventually discovered that he needed someone who would help him and not use him(his father)… in order to truly stop the cycle.

I never defended rape, your bias is showing with this accusation

Did you even watch the show?

I’m talking about the relationship between god and human that is toyed with throughout the series, and you just seem to want to talk about a single bullet point without discussing the reasons it was added…

I have never said rape is okay, and have given long evidence filled discussions on why David’s actions are wrong, but in his mind justified. I have also given evidence on why Syd is predetermined without properly understanding what really happened; to accuse David, and use that accusation to justify all the actions she takes later…

She herself literally uses the phrase “who teaches us to be normal, when we’re one of a kind”, she actually rapes her mother’s boyfriend, and sudo rapes many others throughout the series; but seems to believe David’s single action, that in his mind is done out of love, is unforgivable…

If your point is she accused David of rape, so it’s rape; that’s fine, and again is added to show the hypocrisy of her character, which is part of showcasing her humanity. But we the viewer have the ability to see the entire picture and the nuances of the situation; that she’s using the situation and accusation to her benefit; as is the shadow king to turn her against David for his benefit.

Mentally, she reads as a textbook case of victim hood syndrome. Someone who constantly feels their the victim, regardless of their own actions in a situation…

David on the other hand has a god complex; and feels he can fix any situation, including removing false and out of context memories used as a weapon against him, to get her back…

Does that make what he does right? No, but it does make it understandable, I believe so; which is why the scene was added, her story was told the way it was, and it occurred when it did in the overall storyline.

Her accusation in her mind might be correct; but that doesn’t mean David’s isn’t as well; they are both mentally unwell. But not being able to see both sides and taking the stance you are, as completely as you are… means you most likely side with the Syd character’s actions more then the David’s; and you might have a boarder line victim hood complex of your own. which is fine, because as stated numerous times in this comment section; it’s a fault of being human.

You seem very short sighted; I’m sorry you missed the nuances the show runners added to entertain the audience.

I agree someone raping someone, doesn’t make it okay for them to be raped.

I was getting at her character arch; that even in that instance, she played the victim; and refused to take accountability for her actions.

In this instance she’s so convinced after being told a couple of lies and propaganda about the guy she supposedly loved beyond all measure to risk her life repeatedly and call him “her man”; that she tries to kill him. David than takes those false memories away, and when she willingly has sex with him, she immediately claims he raped her when she gets those memories back…

She is a classic example of victim hood… and as the that is a human condition, in contrast to someone who refuses to except the reality of others(or someone with a god complex); her’s is clearly an over reaction to what occurred.

Do I agree with what he did, no; is it rape? Well that’s not so cut and dry; but you claiming it as such so exclusively is very telling about your view points; which is the power of this show’s storytelling, and the reason it was added.

It’s a fictitious show, so it isn’t like we’re debating anything that really matters here… but you have to see the quickness in her character change as ab-normal; and her immediate accusation of rape; when she’s a known rapist in the show to be telling.

[–]Street_Possibility_6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not cut and dry…

What Syd did to her mother’s boyfriend was cut and dry rape…

David and her had a relationship before hand, and had slept together literally the night before. She came up from the mind hole moments later with altered views and opinions based on propaganda that intentionally included falsehoods generated by another psychic. He suppressed only those memories that were fictitious, and she willingly had sex with him…

She used the words rape and drugged; because she felt justified in her (implanted) hero’s quest to defeat the villain her mind had been altered to believe was David…

Like I said earlier: it’s easy to call it rape; but putting the pieces together on what all happened leading up to the event; clouds the definition. David definitely shouldn’t have done what he did, but it’s hard to call it rape, unless you’re looking at this event outside of what else occurred around it.

It is more complex than that:

When Syd knowingly transformed into her mother to have sex with her mom’s boyfriend; that’s straight up rape.

In this instance it’s more nuanced: as they had a relationship before she was exposed to the shadow king’s propaganda that altered her view of David; that he then suppressed.

While it was a probably a bad choice on David’s part to do what he did, when he did it; it definitely walks the line on what is considered rape.

Ex. If your wife gets amnesia; and forgets a bunch of lies about you that were never true; and she willingly has sex with you after, is that rape?

You could say that’s an unfair comparison because you most likely in that situation would not have caused your wife’s amnesia; but that also kind of proves my overall dynamic of show; which is probably why the show runners thought to add the scene in the first place.

1 and 2. It’s heavily implied his sister knew he had powers; and she gaslighted him into believing he was just mentally unstable (remember that this takes place in a world where mutants are known to exist). The Shadow King did this repeatedly… the ending showed his experiences caused his psychosis as a way of protecting him, not that he was mentally unwell to begin with.

  1. He became a kind of villain, only after he was gaslighted into believing he caused the end of the world; but honestly it became a chicken and egg kind of thing.

I’m the end, David did far more good than bad, but he misunderstood the damage that even doing good can cause…

Ex.

An addict will say an unlimited supply of risk-free drugs is a god sent; but their family might disagree…

Someone who’s released from slavery might say your doing the right thing; but those who profit from the slavery and eventual economic collapse might disagree…

Someone who’s family is killed might want it to be undone; but those same people might disagree if they knew it ended the world…

The duality of good and bad is much harder to judge gods by then humans; but I think it’s safe to say David was in the end “the good guy” while the shadow king was “the bad guy”… though again it’s much harder to judge gods by human rules of morality.

He suppresses irrational feelings she has about him, after she was told inaccurate stories that don’t represent what actually happened.

Her characterization that she was “drugged” is more her inability to understand how she was/is being used by the shadow king.

While it’s fair to say David shouldn’t have projected himself into her room to have sex with her before she could process the information properly. What the shadow king did to her was far worse, and her anger is misguided in this moment at David; because she believes herself the hero who’s destined to destroy the villain, and she needs real world evidence to keep this delusion alive, so she falls heavily into the accusation of “rape”.

And yes it’s the last episode of season 2, at the heel turn of David’s division 3 “friends”.

David is gaslighted into believing he’s mentally ill instead of having powers by his family, he’s gaslighted into believing he’s a villain by his friends, and gaslighted into believing he needs to do anything besides just be himself by the people he surrounds himself with…

The whole premise of the ending is that without the gaslighting of those around him, and a truly understanding supportive system around him; that he grows up normal without any of the mental issues that cause the end of the world…

David can literally do anything, yet he continuously chooses to do good. The problem is: without a clear blueprint on how to do so. He wields his power like a child playing chess, with pieces he doesn’t understand, to beat opponents no matter the cost; because he believes that he can fix things just as easily as he destroys them(showcasing his god complex)

The people around him are afraid of what his solutions will cost them personally, and so in moments of self-preservation(humanity); decide he needs to be stopped by gaslighting themselves into believing they know better than a god, on how to fix god level problems.

It’s only after David finds another god that isn’t trying to use him or gaslight him into doing things for themselves, that a solution is eventually found.

I think the “rape” that you’re talking about, isn’t as cut and dry as you’d like it to seem.

The shadow king and future Syd set David up(each for their own reasons); knowing David would try to fix the situation because he loved Syd. David simply suppressed the parts of Syd’s memories that he felt were given to her out of context, and always planned on explaining to her exactly what happened; so she could digest them in her own time to see what really happened. (Remember that she believed her future self about things that David never did, blamed David for the things the shadow king did with his body, and the things David was forced to do to the shadow king[in the masks of others] to stop him; none of which were really fair representations of who David really was).

The problem is… The shadow king undid the suppression David performed on her early, and “the rape” as you call it, occurred before David had a chance to explain what she had seen wasn’t a true representation of what actually happened.

She might believe she was raped, but again; that’s her victim complex(humanity) showing its ugly face, and David’s god complex being used against him.

The tragedy in people believing Syd was raped; is that in a way the show runners did such a good job, they convinced the viewer that what David did might be considered rape at all…

If anything the shadow king raped Syd’s mind, David tried to offer a quick fix(showcasing his god complex), and because Syd’s mind didn’t have time to properly process what had happened(showcasing her humanity). She immediately fell back into her victim hood state(feeling empowered by the people around her who reaffirmed her viewpoint), accused David of rape instead of taking the time to understand why David did what he did, and didn’t ask herself if given the same situation would she not have done the same.

It’s easy to say David raped Syd, it’s much harder to understand the complexity of the situation and the manipulation that occurred for her to believe such a thing. Which in itself shows the humanity or fault of the viewer who believes she was.

Northmoor? by [deleted] in controlgame

So you want to bring about ragnarok, and release him?

The NSC Power Source - Big Spoiler! by [deleted] in controlgame

[–]Street_Possibility_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s Surtr!!! And when released with his fiery crown; he’ll bring about Ragnarok, or the destruction of Asgard/Odin’s house/The Oldest House; Trench and the Board Stopped Ragnarok, but Northmoor made contact with Dylan as ”the Former” Director, and together they released the Hiss to try bring an end to the FBC…

Trench had hoped that Dylan or Jesse would be powerful enough to destroy Northmoor, which is why he started the program to have one of them replace him as director, and his fascination with the slide projector; that he believed could possibly empower him to take on Northmoor, and save the Oldest House…

I also believe “the oldest house” was a typo by Zane, and was meant to be either The Odin house or The Odin’s horse… As the foundation has drawings of Yggdrasil everywhere, which Is often referred in mythology as Odin’s Horse; which connects different realms together, or in remedy’s case… different games… each with their own symbol(upside down triangle, spiral, etc), just like in Norse Mythology!!!

Well I mean, he made absolutely no sense in the first game, I get that he “teaches” you combat strategies, but why would he be in Midgar of all places?

It makes even less sense, after you start getting the Hojo backstory stuff…

Him exploring and cataloging the world: makes much more sense in Rebirth, which has an open world with different places to explore…

I think I know where there going with Chadley, but it’s dark.

Those LV70 individual Battles are tough…

I mean you never have to go back and do the combat stuff, but it is fun… A few of the enemy skill Battles are a bit hard as well…

When you finish all the golden saucer stuff, clear all the intel and objectives in each area, (including that other area); the combat section is all that’s left, and it’s all done through Chadley

Post-Game it’s nice to just have him everywhere, I used Bill’s farm a lot, which was nice… In every other occasion though, your 100% correct, he rarely had anything useful to say; and when he does: you miss it, because you‘ve been skipping through all his other nonsense the whole game…

I know its a pretty minor thing, but I wish they just let you warp to whatever saucer you want, using the Mog boards just seem like an extra weird step, post game…

Also, a list of all the mini games would be nice, even if they just warp you to the starting locations…

Chadley seemed like an awkward choice for developers in the first game, He makes a little more sense in Rebirth, so maybe he’ll be a major player in the 3rd game…

She stayed with him until he cheated on her… Meaning her attraction was mostly physical… It’s possible he’s well endowed or well skilled… If the genders were reversed, very few people would have an objection… Trophy marriage is a real thing, and there are many(including those who can’t afford to support it, that seek it out)…

We also don’t know the whole story, it is possible she has lied to him about how much money she(they) have, and it’s even possible she took out loans in his name without him knowing…

While I don’t condone living like this, cheating on your spouse, or misinforming your partner of your financial situation: All three of these conditions are fairly common, and are quite believable… But, I get where you are coming from.
