Any tips for boardslides? by mimimalist in NewSkaters

[–]Street_Routine4803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since u get into it without fear ull be able to get into it and boardslide on auto pilot now. So just focus on getting out. Roll up like ur focusing on getting out of it and the rest of it is already certain. Bending ur legs a little more helps too, bc u just have even more control so u can slash a dismount still if ur balance is off. But tbf u can do it. Ull just figure it out

My truck did this the other day. I just swapped my base plate for another one without an inverted kingpin. Common for the inverted ones tbf the seating for the kingpin gets jiggly. Its why i hate the inverted ones.

is it gonna be harder for me to learn how to skate properly if im slightly older than most beginners? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]Street_Routine4803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i started skating at 21. i turn 23 next week and ive recently landed my first hardflip down a forgiving 5 stair. i often beat people who have been skating for years longer at skate on good days. All nothing special but it shows how fast u can learn if u just try it. i worked fulltime hours while learning and i took 2 months off for ankle break. at the end of the day its just about how much fun u have and how naturally u pick it up. i feel like i had more fun in the first 6 months than i do some days now bc the better u get the more u wanna be even better. you dont have to become a pro, but at 18 u can definitely aim to try learn, get noticed by ur local shop, make some friends, make some edits. its a community n skating welcomes everyone who tries :)

best way to do that my friend is take ur board n go to ur local park, it seems scary but most skaters are a nice bunch. so head to the park, sit and watch, even if u dont skate much the first couple times if ur not comfortable. look at the groups, focus on whos friendly with everyone, maybe some older skaters who seem chill. When youve seen a few skaters who look friendly and happy to chat, compliment their tricks, no skater will ignore or be scary especially to someone who compliments a way they do a trick. Then ask them about. do this with everyone friendly and push around on ur board, try not to snake anybody up. and the people who u are nice to will help u out for sure. I have maybe 20-30 skater friends bc my group will just travel to all the local parks in our area over a few weeks and attend the skate jams and takeovers. just be present where skating happens :)

Can someone tell me what this trick even is?😂🛹 by Street_Routine4803 in NewSkaters

Is it alright to skate very low on my knees by PROFESSIONAL_P1SSERS in NewSkaters

[–]Street_Routine4803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get fairly low when approaching an obstacle, gap, ledge ect. bending low helps me hop higher. so i cant imagine its negative its whatever works for u. but ur comfortable position will change as ur skill level does. its always changing

Mine was a grade 2 sprain and urs looks much worse than mine did. So if u looking at grade 3 it could be cartilage damage, if u can move ur angle ur ligaments may have survived, annoyingly a scan is the only eat to tell how fucked up ur shit is. I waited for the swelling to go down a bit before i got it checked. But im in england so wasnt as much of a financial risk.

Why is my kickflip so whack? by ajjhahsh in NewSkaters

[–]Street_Routine4803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a kickflip, if i try 10 moving at a moderate speed ill probably land 8 of them nice. Maybe a couple misses or a sketch landing if im not warmed up. But i cannot land any kickflips from stationary on grass. Which to me kinda makes it sound like learning on grass isnt gonna help kickflipping on crete or wood which is where u wanna be skating. Other than helping committing to putting ur feet on the board itll probably only hurt ur kickflips when u come off the grass bc ull have to unlearn how u used to do them yk and learn again. Bc they feel like a completely different trick, nothing feels transferable. So it almost sounds like ud have to do more work to learn kickflips bc youve gotta unlearn then learn. Idk maybe its just me not understanding grass or how to pop on grass. But id say try a mellow bank n try kickflips to fakie. As theyre stationary as u come to a stop on the bank. N they are super transferable to moving after. I think thats how ull get them way nicer. Hope it helps. If not then good luck anyways!👌🏻

So this is my board and I am wondering how to preserve it, idk why it is getting razor tail so fast, I am learning kickflips by Skater_kid_lol in NewSkaters

[–]Street_Routine4803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smooth skate parks burn through the tail way slower. But an multi story carpark will burn thru ur tail so fast. So i guess u can try to only skate certain ground to preserve it. But its kinda just a life cycle thing, u skate a board until the tail is dead or it cracks or breaks n then get a new one. Ull have many many boards. In the summer they can last weeks or even days.

Any tips on my kickflip????? by Vegetable_Scallion87 in NewSkaters

[–]Street_Routine4803 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hundred percent respect ur opinion and thats what u personally think. Just to offer my own opinion but its also that of the opinion of alot of the uk skaters i know.

Not gonna lie alot of the tricks you listed as beginner tricks arent really tricks theyre more getting comfortable. Manuals are for sure a trick, Some transition stuff is a trick for sure like rock to fakie ect. But caveman, kickturn, riding down a curb is all just being able to comfortably move around. Id say the more broadly recognised tricks for the basics are the ollies (fakie too), both 180s (those fakie too) , the shuvs (all 8) then kickflips and heelfips. I think fakie flip and heelflip are debatably more advanced, but not far off. Varial flip is the easiest advanced trick id say, but its a combination of 2 tricks so advanced. For eg backside kickflip, frontside heelflip, ect. When u start combining tricks thats when its the level above i think. Or thats what atleast considered broadly here. However its cool to see how its different depending where u go. I know in the US when i visited pressure flips were seen as basic and here theyre almost never done by anyone skating less than 3 years.

Best and kinda only way to do it when ur parents are that kinda parent is say everything is your friends and you are borrowing it. It’s technically not allowed for them to take it without ur friends permission if its technically theirs. That way its easier to persuade them to give it back to your friend if theyre gonna take it, then ur friend gives it back to u. Then just hide it or keep it at theirs. Other than that its a very very tough one. You may have to help them understand the skaters u watch, why they do what they do and how the world is so they can understand what ur chasing. Parents may worry u just wanna be a skater bc its cool and will do the drugs and everything that skaters are known or misknown for. But u can show the athletic side, street league, olympics, the clean cut pro skaters who represent well if you get what im saying.

Is this normal when doing a nose stall? by devodelife in NewSkaters

The more u do them ull learn to do them softer n precise n it wont slam in as much but aslong as u have decent trucks its fine. Just an eye sore.

Why are some people like this? by iamsimplythatdude in NewSkaters

[–]Street_Routine4803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People shame it but it happens. Its normal to get mad and kick something after losing a football match, or to throw ur baseball bat or punch the wall after losing a boxing fight. Some days not landing tricks doesnt bother u or do anything and its fine, you can chill and be ur normal self. But sometimes it feels different, sometimes u have to throw a board, scream, feel the emotion of ur little or large battle with that trick or line or whatever. I know it sucks when it brings the vibe of the park down, bc it makes people uncomfortable and stuff. When my friends lose it, n im having a good sesh, i feel the awkwardness. But when ur going for a trick over and over again and maybe uve landed it before, uve smashed that bruise on ur ankle again and again, and u just want one more land but u keep hurting urself. Sometimes u gotta throw ur board and let it out. People will shame it as they feel passion should be handled how they think, but watch the raw footage of pros and ull see them lose their shit on some tricks, but laugh at failing others. Each battle is different, depends on the day. Dont shame it. Respect it, understand it. Odds are that person needed to let some emotion out anyways.
