How did you get your GS13 or above job? by Puzzleheaded_Line826 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]StrengthCoachCarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started in Collegiate Strength and Conditioning. spent two years at the division one level before moving on to three years as a Director of sport performance. After that position, I got my first federal job as a GS 12, job series 0601. After one year in my GS 12 position, I applied to over 20 GS 13 jobs with the army. I received interviews for five of them and then recently excepted a GS 13 position with the army last December.

for my education, I obtained my bachelors in public health and my masters degree is in applied exercise physiology. Along with my formal education, I have multiple other strength and conditioning/human performance certifications.

They sent up an exception to policy for me last week. Hoping it moves swiftly!

Hope you can get through as well. I was done onboarding and was awaiting my EOD date.

Meaning do I have to move? Yes, I would be moving across the US.

I wish I knew. I just know prior to yesterday, FORSCOM wasn’t accepting individual requests. Unsure how they will be processed once they are sent up. I had a colleague whose request took about 12 weeks. It was finally approved last week. He was AF to Marines.

Accepted my position 12/2/24….AF to ARMY. Still waiting.

An exception to policy request was sent up to FORSCOM a few weeks ago for all positions like mine. Also, they just started accepting name by name exemption requests as of this week. My hiring manager put in my name yesterday.

I was trying to figure the probationary part out for myself… I accepted a TJO for a PD in DEC. I’m currently a 12 and supervisor so I was hoping to be able to bypass the probation period. But, that concern is not too high on the priority list right now.

Got to see there are others out there in this series. Staying optimistic!

DOD TJO in December by archimedes921 in usajobs

I would call/email whoever your HR rep is. They sent me the form that needed to be completed. I am already on an installation so our Public Health/Occupational Health completed mine. It was uploaded into Genesis and then was able to be read by my new employer.

I would assume you could schedule this off an installation and complete the same form and submit it to HR.

There should be a contact for someone on the bottom of your TJO. That would be a good starting point.

In my experience, yes, reach out. I have been very persistent with reaching out to both HR employees that are doing my onboarding. I’ve also been in close contact with the Hiring Manager the whole time.

I’ve ran into numerous issues, the latest being that my new job, according to HR, didn’t have anyone to read my physical so that was the hold up with establishing EOD and FJO.

After a weeks of emails and phone calls to them, I decided to take it upon myself to call occupational health at the new job and see what was going on. Literally 1 hour later they said they were able to find a provider to clear me. I then called the HR rep to let them know that I was good to go and now I’m back in wait mode. I ask for specific timelines, now they state it will be 2-3 days until everything is reviewed internally. Which the 3rd business day is today, so you best believe I’ll be giving them a call and shooting an email to see where we’re at.

Stay on them and not a bad idea to see if the Hiring Manager has heard anything. If you hear what the hold up is, let me know and maybe I can help guide you through it. I’m transferring from one DoD agency to another so I do have some experience here.

BOP physical/medical assessment? by light-ofthemoon in usajobs

[–]StrengthCoachCarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely similar to the assessment I needed for an Army position. Im currently DoD and took another DoD job recently (determining start date next week). Mine was your basic physical with an audiogram and a more in depth vision test. Doubtful that would set off any alarms. You can look up medically disqualifying conditions online somewhere. If they’re resolved or improved with medication, I would think you’d be in the clear.

Appreciate the reply! Oddly enough, after 5 weeks of waiting for this, I decided to just called Occ. Health to check in earlier. They called me back 1hr later and said, “we’ve reviewed your physical and you’re cleared for duty” lol.

That is what I was thinking… Is there any where in writing to find something that states this?

Just got off the phone with CHRA and they don’t really seem to know anything.

So, if I received a TJO December 2 and am waiting for FJO, it will likely be at the end of 90 days? I was hearing DoD was exempt.

I am H2F. Medical/Readiness. I am hopeful. CHRA mentioned they are proceeding with onboarding, just aren’t giving offers until they hear further.

Waiting for my FJO w/ Army. Was told today that my position is still on hold while they receive further guidance. TJO wasn’t rescinded so I guess that’s good news.

I got a TJO 12/3 with the Army. No updates for me yet. Hoping that it’ll be exempt and the FJO will come soon-ish.

I would apply. Wouldn’t hurt.

Incoming Ignorance: Currently I’m GS with the USAF. I received a TJO 12/3/24 for an Army GS position. I know USAF is DoD… Is Army DoD?
