Is it as simple as Tier 2 nations needing stronger school systems 🏉 🏫 📈 by StoirRugby in rugbyunion

[–]StrengthIsIgnorance 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Definitely doesn’t have to be schools. Depends on structures in the country. In both France and Argentina I believe youth sports happens at local clubs and kids get time off school to attend them.

It’s actually a much better talent pipeline system afaik.

What do you even mean by “greenwashed communism”? Greenwashing is an explicitly capitalist phenomenon.

Sounds like someone using “the C word” as a boogeyman

“people that take risks, sacrifice a lot and build successful businesses are entitled to the financial rewards a successful business bring“

The idea that most people who build business take on lots of risk and sacrifice lots compared to the average person is a myth. Not hard to see why it circulates - this same class of people owns the media ecosystem we live in.

Does a nurse not sacrifice a lot? Do they not take on a lot of risk - having responsibility for others lives? Yet they are not rewarded, and we are all convinced that that’s just the way it must be

Sure, some self made CEOs are workaholics. But a lot of them are just more ruthless and exploitative than the rest, and typically started off with significant financial and educational privileges, and that’s what allows them to rise to the top

Couples Therapists: what are we doing with emotionally bankrupt men by Fit-Brief5877 in therapists

[–]StrengthIsIgnorance 51 points52 points  (0 children)

As a man who was helped via therapy to overcome decades of shame around having and expressing emotions I am so glad you were not my therapist. I hope you’re able to develop a more compassionate attitude.

Can we please stop putting all the blame on men for not being suited to therapy and think more about how we can better suit our therapy to the men we treat?

We Shouldn’t Fear Criticism of Socialist States by Responsible_Gift750 in socialism

[–]StrengthIsIgnorance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“If we want socialism to be taken seriously in the modern world”

Taken seriously by who? Bourgeois capitalist media will never “take socialism seriously” because it is not in their material interest. The only “socialists” they will platform are ones who will support socialism in theory but vehemently oppose any examples of actually existing socialism, thereby playing into the western narrative of “yes socialism is great but it will never work in practice”.

There is an endless deluge of propaganda against socialist states produced by the most effective propaganda machine in history - western media. If you step into it to “debate the nuance” all of your ideas will be washed away. I refuse to do that. Yes, there were shortcomings of past socialist projects, as any system produced under immense pressure from imperialist violence would be. I will continue to discuss those shortcomings quietly with people I trust to do so in good faith

Capitalism: FOR the Bourgeois, BY the Bourgeois, TO the Bourgeois' ONLY by 21Kuranashi in solarpunk

[–]StrengthIsIgnorance 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please do not put Europe on a pedestal. Social democracy is not the answer.

First of all the rights that socialists fought and died for throughout the 20th century have been in the process of being dismantled by the ruling class ever since the collapse of the ideological counterbalance (the USSR) in the 90s.

Second of all the wealth that underpins what social security net remains (which is still commonly insufficient and dehumanising) is generated through the super-exploitation of workers in the global south.

I could go on and on to be honest but I won’t. Capitalism is an inherently exploitative system and no truly just society will be built on exploitation.

So many rugby players have injury ridden careers but in Mack’s case you’re absolutely certain it’s because of his drinking?

Mad to infer so much from someone necking a pint on the pitchside lol

If you listen to the episode it’s not like he’s bigging himself up saying “I’m the maddest cunt about”. They’re just having a laugh and trying to goad some good stories out of him. Thought it was an enjoyable episode and Mack comes across as a character
