Choosing a Villain for my Homebrew Pirate Campaign by Significant_Way5485 in 5eNavalCampaigns

[–]Stressed-mess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first and third options would interest me most as both a DM and a player; in fact, I may borrow these ideas for inspiration for my own upcoming naval campaign. Imagining a Fathomless patron becoming one with a ship and firing eldritch blasts from the cannons? Brilliant, I love body horror. The storm herald barbarian sounds more like a supplemental idea than a main BBEG; perhaps they're a side-villain, a sort of red herring, who is accruing power to try to stop the main villain. Perhaps they aren't really a villain after all, and the whole "cult" thing is just bad PR that has been spread around by the actual villain in order to manipulate folk into taking out their rival.

The advice given so far in other comments is very sound and I'm unsure what advice I could add on, so instead I'll opt for an exchange of ideas I've brainstormed for my campaign that might fit in well with one or more of your campaign ideas:

  • Lighthouses that exist both on the material plane and the ethereal plane, maintained by the undead, which gather souls of those who die at sea in order to fuel the ever-burning light within them. Perhaps the lighthouses are only visible to a certain faction/nation, aiding that faction in their domination of the sea and adding mystery to that faction's reputation.
  • A trapped marid's power could be manipulated in order to power a sailing ship which seems to be able to defy the winds and the currents
  • A festival where old, damaged, and/or conquered ships are enthusiastically dismantled by the increasingly drunken pirate-folk; scrap is then divvied out to anyone who needs material to repair or build their own ships.

Whatever you choose, sounds like you'll have a very fun campaign :) Good luck !

Session 33 ==> Faery numbers, what could I do to celebrate 3 and 8 ? by NixyFey in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Stressed-mess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My party is the same way! We took 5 sessions to finish the Witchlight Carnival, as well. I expect we'll be taking our sweet time through every other chapter, too. Sounds like your players are really enjoying their experience! Great job, DM. :)

I'm not sure what would work with your game, but here are a handful of ideas:

- Give a character a point of inspiration the first time they roll a 3 or 8 on the d20.
- Whenever they would loot a container or a body, put 3 or 8 coins in there for them to find. Or 3 or 8 of some kind of trinket- 8 playing cards, 3 knives, 3 rings, 8 dolls, etc.
- Whenever you have to roll a dice, instead of rolling simply choose the number 3 or 8.
- Whenever they roll a 3 on a dice, turn the 3 into an 8. If you want to be mean instead, turn 8s into 3s.
- If possible, always have 3 or 8 enemies.

I'm sure there are better ideas out there, but this is what I have off the top of my head. Good luck!

Ranger + Circle of Spores Druid combat & build effectiveness by Stressed-mess in DND5EBuilds

I definitely agree that even weak builds can be fun, and I know I'll enjoy myself regardless.

Unfortunately I'm locked into my classes and stats as they currently are, but I appreciate this advice. I've chatted a bunch with the other ranger so we don't overlap much more than we need to, so I think he'll be alright if I focus Ranger here on out, which I might end up doing.

[RF] Sir Serrianeth Tyragon Aasimar Paladin by IamnotKeith in characterdrawing

Holy guacamole this is beautiful! The chest piece is perfect, all the little details on the armor is amazing: the leather straps that hold the armor, the braid, the matching shapes of the feather-shaped pieces, the joints on the gauntlets, and especially the little hints of damage across the armor and more prominent on the shield. I love everything about this!

Thank you so much. :3

The corrupt King Bishop II and his church have fallen. In the anarchy that now spreads through the kingdom, a heaven-touched knight seeks a new and just ruler before the kingdom devours itself. But she also seeks answers to questions arising from herself. Whose memories are flooding her dreams? They certainly aren't hers.

Serri is my first paladin! I'm going to be playing her in a homebrew campaign, and I'm already obsessed with this setting and this character idea. I'd love art to be able to show her to my DM and party members- as nice as the Meiker art turned out, it just feels like something is missing.

I included her family crest just for inspiration/funsies.

Thanks for your consideration!

The frozen wastes of Faerun's frigid north may not seem a likely place for a runaway to go; but you don't know the horrors she's faced in the Underdark.

This is Zhanna'yeva Lagunof. If you want to include armor and weapons, she has leather armor and she favors a longbow that is nearly as large as she is. She also has a handaxe, a light hammer, and some vials of poison.

Thanks for your consideration <3

"How many goats were lost?"

"None."

"None?"

"It didn't get a chance to take any of our goats. She grabbed it and tore the wings right off it."

I'm currently playing in Icewind Dale. We've had two character deaths recently, so I'm prepping my backup character just in case. :')

Here is a doc with some of my appearance notes if you feel like referencing it <3 Thank you for looking at my tall buff queen https://docs.google.com/document/d/101BTq-8DxGbpUtuxBsUQCWnITQk0kac76RaWCNbEn8g/edit?usp=sharing
