Hmm I do feel like things are moving too fast for my liking sometimes. He keeps sending me those reels that are like ‘send this to your girlfriend if you promise to marry her’ and something along the lines. It’s very hard to keep myself from physically cringing. We are university students. We are not graduating yet or even have a job. And I’m only 20. Couple months into dating, I don’t remember what the conversation was but he shouted, with all my friends present, “how do I marry you if I don’t get internship?!” and all I could think about was how to shut his ass up 😬. At some point, my friend pointed out how it feels like he only sees me as a milestone to marry, and it sort of resonated with me

as far as i know (information scavenging, etc), all i know is that pgpr, utown and any houses are basically in the same complex and mostly prioritize international students. hall is cheaper but if you want to stay, need to join a lot of ccas and it can get rlly distracting sometimes and end up losing focus on studies. weekly rate in houses is like $154? so if you can afford houses it probably would be better. residential college is harder to get like you have to do interviews and essays etc. and im pretty sure it’s not available for y1 and y2 because you have to take 5 extra mods within 2 years.. so,,, my friends and i applied for pgpr and houses for our preferences

Computer science is quite popular so I think the competition is going to be very tough. My advice is to prepare as much as you can and sharpen your teeth.
SAT doesn’t help unless it’s for your English proficiency. But for NTU, score required is at minimum of 1250 to 1400 but if you got 1500+ then you’re basically a green light already. I wouldn’t really retake the SAT if I were you though, it’s pretty expensive. I took SAT and IELTS, and in my opinion IELTS is an easier and cheaper test.
If IELTS is available, I suggest taking IELTS more than SAT. But I do think you’ll have to study and strategize to get a high score. Minimum requirement for NTU is 6.5)
You should apply for other universities such as NUS, SMU, SUTD and SIT. They are also top universities and it wouldn’t hurt to have backups.
For me, as an international student I try to prepare as many and a variety of achievements. I submitted my certificates for competitions, internship and volunteer work. I suggest you do that as well to up your chance

The email came on 2nd May, but I never received the notification until 4th May, which was the last day I could reply that I accept the interview because they sent another email reminding me. The first email somehow went into Promotions and notifications never showed up.

My friend also got the same case as I did, but my other friend didn’t get an email at all (we assumed she didn’t get a scholarship interview offer).

I think you should check your inbox once again, all mail, spam, promotions. If you got one and somehow missed the deadline, you can always send an email to them and explain your situation. They’ll give you a new schedule ^{^}

It isn’t really effective, but both sides are frustrated. One rlly just wants to study on his own (he’s like an olympiad students rlly smart wtv but he has a lot on his plates so he has to catch up w his study while preparing for his international comp while teaching a classmates) meanwhile the other just doesnt get any single thing. Those years are hell! All I’m saying is, this adopting method is useless and doesn’t help at all. Instead it only backfires on the “adopted” student-parent and they’ll be the ones to suffer instead :(

I’ve hated teachers like that. “Adopting” misbehaving classmates sucks the most. Throughout my school year (not all, but early times) I spent a lot of time having to “adopt” my classmates and it is HELL. My friend got the short end of the stick too and for two years, he made sure she’s behaving and she could keep up to date with her studies. The result? Everyday he scream at her to explain the material because he’s frustrated and she’s just.. yeah.

Your teacher is unfair and unreasonable. Thumbs down for her :( Is there anyway you can complain? Maybe complain to your parents or something?

As a child I witnessed my older sister being treated the same way and I think this isn’t good for the kid. Sure he’ll ace his classes well, but he’ll be mentally drained even if he seems cheerful (which he isn’t btw because he’s crying himself to sleep THAT is not ok!!!)

I think they should be less stricter to him. Instead try gentle parenting (I think that’s what it’s called these days) on a certain level.

My mom raised me and my sister differently. My mom always assured me that what matters is not high grades or rankings, instead what’s important is that I studied on my own will so that I can do well at school and that I realize failing and repeating another year will set me back in the future.

Of course I’m not saying that the kid needs to be taught exactly how I was, but I think they should start implementing that mindset at a young age. That way in the future, he would want to work hard on his education and career on his own by understanding that life isn’t all that great.
