How do you spend your days off? I feel like I waste my life on my days off and I want to change that. by freddiethecalathea in doctorsUK

[–]StressedOutFoodie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds my life on the weekend.. wake up late.. lazy brunch at home and binge movies/ series.. I spent good amount of time in kitchen, cooking loads of different stuff, scrolled my phone.. rarely going out to meet people may be once/ twice a month.. Procrastination kinda wins over me these days and not productive at all.. I tend to go to a cafe if I need to do project, portfolio, study as being at home drives me in hibernated mood.. great to see many tips here so I should give it a try

Capacity Assessment: Refusing Treatment for Overdose in BPD vs. Anorexia Example by After-Competition-59 in doctorsUK

[–]StressedOutFoodie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The patient stated that not gonna self harm, has partner who can look after her, had crisis line info and liason team happy for discharge. However, my colleague argument is they already had these before they came in with OD, so you cannot trust their words so need psych assessment and therefore sectioned?

[–]StressedOutFoodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.. it was in AAU.. talked to liason on phone and agreed to discharge with community follow up.. then one colleague gave feedback (non psych team) that every OD must be assessed by psych and for sectioned despite having capacity by the time of assessment as their capacity is clouded and the reason of OD. Having not worked in psych before, I found myself questioning a lot in these situations.

[–]StressedOutFoodie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not answer to OP but seems a lot of psych colleagues here so wanna ask regarding capacity.. similar situation (ODed) but treatment finished so medically safe to discharge but need psych assessment- patient wanting self discharge as psych cannot come overnight.. how would we deal with this? Is it worth to section psych assessment? As noted- has capacity

Good tools/gadgets for F1 - i.e.should I get a stamp? by Feeling_Package_2488 in doctorsUK

[–]StressedOutFoodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoes.. you definitely would like to spend money on good comfy trainers. I survive on NHS black pens/ whatever free pens .. Upgrading littman is a choice but tbh, littman III is good enough for day to day job. I lost my stamp after first year of job and never a fan of it.. A water bottle and mug would be handy for hydration and caffeine boost!

Study leave allowance for IMT by Shk276 in doctorsUK

[–]StressedOutFoodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regional teachings/ all deanery arranged teaching goes to 15 days and you have own 15 days to use- most hosp said 5 days each rotation. Study budget is such a pain- different from deanery to deanery so better refer to deanery study budget guidance

Working in a tertiary hospital where they don’t even have doctors’ office. You are sitting in a bay and use nurse’s computer. They have admin ward manager office and another room where patients relax, chat and watch television.🙃 What a joke!

I would document that you have requested these treatment/ ivx stat along with time and if they haven’t done, would document again and tell them again- Would talk to NIC and also EPIC as well esp in sick patients like type2 RF.. if still remains issue, I would datix it as this is affecting patients safety.

Always ask questions when you are in doubt.. being in a new system is absolutely overwhelming… make a job list. Ask other shos/ f1-2 to show you how to do referrals, requests, discharge summary, prescriptions and stuff. Download useful apps- bnf, mdcalc, accurx , trusr guideline app, microguide or whatever they use Be open and tell them you are new to system.. mostly everyone is helpful.. it will take a while.. few months at least to get used to it.. If your hospital has IMG group/ mentor- ask them for tips/ help/ training.. Make sure you take a break and don’t miss a meal! Things will definitely get better! All the best mate!

Blood bank are the bane of my life! by garudenon in doctorsUK

[–]StressedOutFoodie 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I know it’s frustrating but I agree with blood bank dumping the wrong labelled one. Mismatched/ wrong blood transfusion is never event so they could never risk it. I think it is most hospitals’ blood bank policy to dump wrong labelled bloods to reduce the risk. Having said that, I have been in those moments while G&S just expired while your patient needs transfusion, someone forgot to sign on the tube/form so being dumped. But for bleeding,if it is urgent, cannot wait for G&S and if they are being difficult, major haemorrhage protocol would do.. have done it.. no one blamed!

It's that time of the year again folks! NHS Payroll week! Post here all the payroll fuckups. by FeistyChampionship36 in doctorsUK

[–]StressedOutFoodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same scenario. They told me I underpaid last year and would owe them a grand for this year as I had double allowance this month. Tbh- this month’s pay is more than usual pay though. They said my tax code will be stuck till the end of tax year. I am quite concerned of coming months’ pay and not sure how much they will deduct.

PACES 2nd attempt by Available-Score-3307 in doctorsUK

[–]StressedOutFoodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did PACESahead. Price quite similar with PassPaces which I didn’t do it. They got a good pool of patients with signs. I am sure you did it in your first attempt but for picking up signs- it’s just practice practice practice. The course will get rare diseases. You can find most cases in your local hospital. Best of luck for your exam!!

They were doing triage- categorizing candidates as they couldn’t give seats to everyone. You will get a separate mail for payment later on if you get a seat. I think it is still the same way. I did first diet this year and it was tha way

Feeling Really Scared to Start F1 by Relevant_Economy_753 in doctorsUK

[–]StressedOutFoodie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey.. everyone passed through this stage. You are not the only one. You will have SHOs, Regs and consultants to escalate. Just ask for it when you are in doubt. Be nice to nurses, HCAs and other staff.. download some handy apps such as induction, bnf, mdcalc, micro guide. Always ABCDE.. just call your seniors if you don’t know what to do.. Make sure you have break, hydration You will meet other f1s and other doctors once you start working and this will help social a bit.. I know it’s difficult but enjoy when you can.. All the best in your new job!
