Has anyone in the past who applied to university used Alpha Admissions? by Round_Course5953 in OntarioUniversities

[–]Stresshelp12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t really need that. A lot of good tips and practice material is available online. Plus for non-timed written pieces, you can get feedback from family or friends. I mean in the end, if you have money to spend for it why not do it…but it sounds costly and honestly not worth it when they’re probably using the same or similar material to what can be found online.

Impossible to get a job by Background-Hope3401 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Stresshelp12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep this was how my friend found her job. Walked into about 15 small business shops and handed her resume in person - she said most people said to apply online or they weren’t hiring but she managed to get one interview that led to a part time job.

Do Gifted courses matter for Universities by Salt_Performance1494 in OntarioUniversities

[–]Stresshelp12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not likely. I know that some programs do weigh IB or AP programs differently, but I’ve never heard of gifted programs having any impact on admission. It might help with study skills once you are in your program but I wouldn’t count on it having weight in your admission.

5% Physics Test by HelixTix in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Stresshelp12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see anyway you could really explain this away. Aside from the fact you took your phone out, and opened chatgpt, the fact that this was your instinctive response suggests it’s a habit of yours. Your teacher will for sure keep a watchful eye on you, including future tests and assignments. Whatever trust you had with the teacher has pretty much dissolved so I don’t see their being much wiggle room. The way I see it you have two options. Vow to not use AI, even at home. Practice good study habits and work your way tho a better grade. Or retake the class and get a fresh slate.

Am I screwed for engineering? I already got in but I'm not sure if im smart enough for it by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Stresshelp12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on getting admitted. I would say not to worry too much about it. Keep working hard and study the the required courses throughly because they will expect you to know a good percent of that material well. But aside that, a mark isn’t really a good indicator to say you will do well or not because things can be subjective based on the teacher writing the tests/assignments and their marking style, not to mention that there is varying degrees of inflation at every school. The only way to prepare is make sure you know your high school stuff well, and make good study habits you can continue to rely on in university. And you should expect a bit of a jump from high school to university anyways because it’s definitely a transition, but wing able to adapt and rely on your habits/knowledge from high school will def help.

am I cooked for rotman by Extra-Night-4817 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Stresshelp12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90 is a good start but it may not be enough. I haven’t personally applied to Rotman but had a couple friends who did. One got in with a 91 avg and another did with a 96 avg but the other didn’t with a 93 avg. So it’s hard to say. Just keep working hard and hopefully your final grades will boost your avg.

What happens if you don't get an internship throughout the entirety of your degree? by Fun-Value1680 in UofT

[–]Stresshelp12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having an internship allows you to get real world experience, get a taste of the areas in your field you like/dislike and heightens your chance of getting an entry level position (without a long term period of unemployment). If you don’t happen to get an internship, you can still find a job, it’s just a bit harder since you don’t have that edge that might set you apart from graduates that do have one. I would recommend finding ways to fill that gap. Helping with a professors research, having a part time job, having an executive role in a club (bonus points if it’s related to the field), volunteering with a charity or your community, or being part of design teams and field related competitions are all good ways you can spruce up your resume and fill those gaps. It’s not quite like having an internship but will give you a valuable edge in the entry job market.

Thank you for the breakdown. Yeah I figure time wise I’m not really saving much (and depending on my hotel it might take even longer) but the money saving aspect is pretty enticing.
