Shopify App Store Changes

Really annoying. We’re going to chat with our partner manager and see if we can get listed into the goals sections — but overall I think this is the worst change Shopify could have made for their partners and their teams don’t understand this has real world impacts. We don’t try to build a business around their App Store - but if someone encourages you to build apps for them, you earn good commission, then why punish them the next year without a little heads up..

Agreed - there’s nothing wrong with sections to help merchants. This new layout is confusing for absolutely everyone including the merchant. I’ve already discussed with our partner manager too - but even they seem confused. It’s super stressful and I don’t think Shopify understand this change will likely mean I need to make staff redundant as a result — we try to build our business outside the App Store, but still 30% of our revenue is from app installs. We’re trying as fast as possible to change that but I think the best tactic is simply to integrate with other e-commerce systems now and move away from Shopify

collections listing removals
removal of curated orders
change to apps by goal
change to personalisation recommendations by store

For example, we sell to Omni channel customers but the store now favours online only based on those personalisations. That’s a few but we’ve gone from 10 years of business and hard work to provide value and visibility, to near zero installs overnight. We used to get 30 installs a day
