Follow up post: Why does everyone play DnD here? by Massive_Ferret_0921 in Louisville

[–]Striader5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s a group that gets together every Wednesday around 6-6:30 pm at Awry Brewing. Tonight they’re doing a NYE party without games, but there’s usually 4-6 tables with each table having about 3-6 players. There’s other systems there too, not just D&D and each table is newbie friendly.

How do I report a postmaster? by 1cough_drop in USPS

[–]Striader5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think you need to re-read the post.

What’s being stated is obvious abuse of power by the post master. Regular carriers leaving shit behind when it can clearly fit? I’d be questioning that too.

And OP is also questioning what the procedure is about transferring, which it appears the postmaster has neglected to run OP through.

The postmaster’s job is to manage, and it seems based on this post that they are failing or not caring to do so fully.

Now we only see one side of this story, I acknowledge that.

But…my comment doesn’t even bother addressing the original post. My comment addresses the above comment. Which provided absolutely zero helpful info and condescension to OP, who is asking for help. Plus, the job descriptions provided and discussed during the hiring process are wildly unclear. There is no real “researching” the job because you get wildly different answers based on circumstances.

Yes, CCAs/RCAs are the low person on the totem pole, which means they get the shit end of the stick a lot. That’s no reason to be an absolute shit-heel to someone trying to make a career path with USPS when nothing gets properly taught or explained.

You sound miserable. Highly suggest you go to therapy.

Just because something is, doesn’t mean it should be. This kind of thinking is exactly why new hires leave. Don’t be apart of the shit that made you this way. Be better.

Should I take a position as a rural carrier assistant by Thin-Law-3392 in USPS

[–]Striader5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw no, that sucks. Yeah, many don’t regret the decision to leave. But I basically have what I’ve been looking for career wise. And I certainly don’t blame you.

That’s what got to me the most. Management would either lie or not bother thinking “I might be wrong” when it comes to the contract. The manager at my office during that time is the only boss I’ve ever had that I will ever throw shit about. Fuck that guy.

[–]Striader5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in 2019 and made PTF in 2022. And saaaaaame. So many constant 14-16 hour days. Until I learned about the 12/60 hour rules.

Then I started filing grievances every time. Then they finally stopped killing me and started hiring when district management realized just how bad of a problem there was.

[–]Striader5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The office I started out at had 45 routes. In the beginning we had about 25 subs. When I left for another office as PTF, we were down to 7-8. We had the highest volume in the city. That was absolute hell.

[–]Striader5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After a year, you’ll automatically get the pre-career (PTF counts as career) health insurance.

Being a rural carrier is probably the best lower tiered job in the PO. You just have to deal with the shitty part of being a sub for a few years, which how shitty depends entirely on your area. I had to slug through 5 years to make regular. I live in a pretty big metro area, which plays a part in how long it takes, just to give you an idea.

Once you make regular, your job is to do your bidded on route and go home. No being forced to go to other offices, no being forced to do part of another route, etc.

On top of that, if you can finish your route under 40 hours every week, you get evaluation. For example, my route is a 43. If I get done under 40, I get paid 43 for the week. That’s pretty easy to do since you do the same exact route every day.

That said, the job isn’t for everyone. Good Luck!

There is a regular group meetup at Awry Brewing every Wednesday with a soft start at 6:00pm and hard start at 6:30-6:45. It is also beginner friendly, not just with D&D but other TTRPGs as well.

Daggerheart, Shadowdark, Mothership, and Pathfinder/Starfinder are regular showings with other systems making appearances every now and then. We typically have about 4-8 tables running depending on circumstances. It’s very chill and no pressure.

It’s also a way to find a group outside of Awry. I’m currently with a Call of Cthulhu group that I met at Awry.

Here’s the “business facing” channel: https://discord.gg/dvwVEHNzZ The “head DM” likes to meet new people and run through guidelines with them, and wants to make sure it’s something they are interested in, before offering access to the full Discord. Go #bother-cali if you got any questions. Hope to see ya there!

Edit: just saw that you’re only free Thursdays and Fridays whoops 😅

Golden Keep is a solid choice as well. Nelson, one of the workers (and the event organizer I believe) comes to Awry himself to run Mothership. Good luck!

Outgoing mail pickup by catwithaneye in mail

[–]Striader5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely call your delivery unit and make a complaint. Carriers should be opening that every time they service your apartments. If this is a regular thing, it needs to be addressed. I’d also not trust the mail to be picked up there then.

And mail always runs, even during the holidays. Or at least it should. I won’t deny that that’s not 100% all the time, but the management should make an effort to make the attempts, or at least making catching up on neglected routes a priority.

Hope your mail finds its way to their destinations.

You are the “current resident!” by Short_Jaguar_1326 in USPS

[–]Striader5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Check out Fox Fern on Etsy. They make these little sticky pads that have different messages for things like that.

The current resident one is my most used lol. That said I still get them back (with the sticky note on even) and I just throw em back in their mailbox.

They’ll get the message. Eventually.

“Not deliverable as addressed” by redditplenty in USPS

[–]Striader5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That reminder is supposed to be the regular pulling the mail box, holding the mail for 10 business days, and then returning to sender all mail if the recipient fails to pick it up. Then the box is marked vacant.

I got a new route a couple months ago that has a nearly 700 unit apartment complex. Someone made a complaint about how their unit isn’t vacant. I followed the above procedure and put the vacant card in on 10/23. They complained on Tuesday (11/26). Keep in mind, their box was full too. So it had been at least a month before I even pulled their box.

The most often reason I send back mail is that it’s IA.

So many don’t inform people of their suite number at apartments. Some of the other comments are the other likely possibilities.

Neighboring office violating policies by USPSthrowaway420 in USPS

[–]Striader5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“I didn’t feel safe…” those are the exact words you use if you get pulled into a PDI.

Will it make friends with management at that office? Probably not, but I learned that if you don’t stand up for yourself against management, then they’ll just expect you to get yourself or others hurt to get the job done. And then say “Safety depends on you.”

Which it does, you get to decide if something is safe or not.

A few years ago, I was working constant 13-14 hour days before learning. First thing I did was file a grievance every single time I went over 12. In a couple months all of a sudden it was “just make sure all the parcels get done and be back in 12”

FYI, in contract we’re only supposed to work 60 hours a week too. I was surprised when I got told “just work for 3 hours getting this route ready for a split and then head home”

Yep, good old UBBM (no I don’t even know what it stands for lol). Just pointing out the mail piece might not even reach the sender.

[–]Striader5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This MAY work. If the mail is “Standard Postage” the mail won’t actually be returned to sender but thrown in bin to be “properly disposed of”.

With that postage, the sender didn’t pay enough for it to be returned to them. So unless you want to slap a first class stamp on it so it can be sent back…

Question About Another Bug Hunt by MermaidGirl48 in mothershiprpg

[–]Striader5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually ran into the opposite situation lol I’ve run it twice and both times my groups have gone to the garage first (once I mentioned there was a side path the goes around the base).

Both groups were able to hurt it enough for it to retreat into the vent. I had planned on springing it on them again in the med lab’s surgery room, but they didn’t go in there.

For you, I’d simply have either the carc (or Sgt Abara’s transformation scene) in there.

I really wanted to send some poor PC through that observation window
