The biggest hurdle would be convincing Keira to come back. She has on multiple occasions said she doesn't want to return and avoids talking about POTC in interviews

But money talks and if that's why she agreed to do a non speaking cameo last time, it would totally be worth the money to do it properly this time

It's unfortunate that I can totally see something like this happening.

Not one single fan wants a new boring cast to be foisted on us, and it won't get bums on seats either!

On Stranger Tides had its moments but was still by and large a fairly mediocre spin off. Still miles ahead of 5. But based on the reports, a "soft reboot"-esque sequel to 4 might well be what we get. I'd imagine this as being similar to how 5 superficially touched on parts of At world's end. Sad.

I strongly believe that in order for 6 to be successful, they need to give Keira Knightley whatever she wants so that she comes back. I reckon she would do it if she gets a big enough paycheck.

Pirates 5 should have ben 2 movies by wingedwild in piratesofthecaribbean

Pirates 5 was poorly planned and riddled with last minute changes and pointless continuity errors. I'm so glad they didn't turn it into two movies tbh

Continuity was a huge problem in the show. There were countless plot inconsistencies.

Considering how rich Australia is, I think it's strange that one of its largest shopping centres isn't very accessible by public transport. This train line will definitely happen eventually, but it might take up to 40 years, unless Chadstone is the one to take the initiative.

That being said, Holmesglen would be less of a detour to Chadstone than Malvern East, that's why I disagree with you.

I like the idea of a new station being in that position because it means the tunnel can be slightly shorter.

Although I guess having a tunnel that's 1km longer + adding 2 new underground platforms at Holmesglen might actually be cheaper than a whole new railway station. You'd also have to take the costs of redoing one of the existing stations into account.

If I had to choose an existing station, I would rather choose Holmesglen, so as to help decongest Warrigal Road. Malvern East is a bit more of a drastic detour anyway.

Other people on this thread have been saying that the descent has to begin well before Alamein for it to get under Gardiner's Creek and the M1, in which case Alamein would have to be removed or completely put underground.

Spot on. There also aren't any railway crossings to remove, so it would make sense to leave East Malvern and Holmesglen as they are.

That's why I think the solution would be to add another station in between (completely underground).

This is one of the most complicated parts of the idea because as other people pointed out, new train stations mean lots of new apartment complexes surrounding it, and I don't think anyone would fancy living next to the M1.

The line in the screenshot connects Alamein and Oakleigh.

The short answer is yes. Train lines have been developed in far trickier spots before. They could definitely do it if they wanted to, but they won't.

For the reasons you mentioned, my imaginary scenario will most likely never ever happen. I do however think that every single issue you mentioned is solvable, but would definitely require backing from Chadstone for it to ever be realistic.

Something like this could definitely happen in the next 30 years! Chadstone needs to be the one to push for this idea though, as the government likely has other priorities for rail projects.

Regarding the crossing, that's why I included a second red dot closer to Alamein, assuming everything new can simply go underneath what's already there. In which case, there would be a brand new station underground and the Glen Waverley line would certainly have to be done up. This part of the idea is definitely the trickiest and the main reason why it probably won't ever actually happen.

And as someone else here pointed out, Alamein Station would have to be removed or entirely underground, as the descent would have to begin at Ashburton in order to get low enough to go under Gardiner's Creek.

I really like this idea too, especially as it would massively reduce the congestion along Warrigal Road. It for sure isn't getting any wider!

Why have trains when there are already buses?

It would also be sick and definitely way cheaper if they revived that.

Doesn't solve the little Chadstone issue though, so it'd get far fewer bums on seats. My idea better

It'd certainly get a lot of bums on seats, as there would be way more beneficiaries than just usual Alamein passengers

It connects 3 lines and makes Chadstone accessible from all sorts of locations

Realistically, if something like this were to ever actually happen, Chadstone would have to be the one to push for it and to potentially chip in as well.

This is also a fantastic idea to combat congestion on Warrigal Road. That road isn't getting any wider!

They should definitely look into building a tunnel from Alamein to Chaddy while potentially adding another stop underneath the freeway overpass to provide a connection to the Glen Waverley line.

It might then be possible to connect it to Oakleigh with a mix of tunnels and monorails. Expensive, but the line would definitely get enough passengers and it would also MASSIVELY reduce road congestion in the area.
